You dont think Seinfeld or Twin Peaks will get a look in?
― millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Thursday, 10 December 2009 23:30 (sixteen years ago)
i'm a bit confused about how many americans actually voted in this, but i assume if they turned out then twin peaks has won.
― caek, Thursday, 10 December 2009 23:33 (sixteen years ago)

thank you
― caek, Thursday, 10 December 2009 23:39 (sixteen years ago)
slightly baffled by NV's violent reaction to the fast show, given he was find with red dwarf
― caek, Thursday, 10 December 2009 23:40 (sixteen years ago)
As I said, Red Dwarf was flawed but when on song it brought the lolz, Fast Show was a lot more flaw than lol, plus I really dislike the sentimentalizing of sketch comedy, plus it placed stupidly high on here against vastly superior shows, so I didn't feel like breaking out the measured responses to it.
― You treat your step-mother with respect, Pantera (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 10 December 2009 23:45 (sixteen years ago)
i should have voted for larry sanders
― abanana, Thursday, 10 December 2009 23:46 (sixteen years ago)
the sentimentalizing of sketch comedy
who does this?
― caek, Thursday, 10 December 2009 23:47 (sixteen years ago)
Paul Whitehouse, mostly.
― You treat your step-mother with respect, Pantera (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 10 December 2009 23:50 (sixteen years ago)
I really don't need cyphers in a 2-minute sketch to have rich inner lives.
I *liked* that about Rowley and Ted& Ralph, but as always YMMV, so whatever.
― millivanillimillenary (Trayce), Thursday, 10 December 2009 23:53 (sixteen years ago)
I'm trying to stop banging on anyway. I've said why I don't like it, other people do, bully for them. I was just answering yr question about why I'd still got time for Red Dwarf and not for 90 percent of Fast Show. I didn't vote for either of them, which sums it up really.
― You treat your step-mother with respect, Pantera (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 10 December 2009 23:54 (sixteen years ago)

(Blink.)
Yes, now I understand why I need to stop watching TV and living. It's...all so clear to me now.
― Zoo Snickers (Deric W. Haircare), Friday, 11 December 2009 00:13 (sixteen years ago)
P.S. LJ, there could be an upset, but I don't really see the first two years of South Park being enough to warrant it a spot in the top ten.
― Zoo Snickers (Deric W. Haircare), Friday, 11 December 2009 00:15 (sixteen years ago)
Unless a lot of peeps were like me and just voted for things from the list without thinking about how much of them was broadcast in the 90s.
― You treat your step-mother with respect, Pantera (Noodle Vague), Friday, 11 December 2009 00:16 (sixteen years ago)
Was Jeeves & Wooster nominated? I'm watching that now and it's great.

7. The State
forgot about this being in the running, have to get ready to be annoyed if it's in the top 10 and apoplectic if it's higher than KITH
― some dude, Friday, 11 December 2009 00:44 (sixteen years ago)
I'm beginning to think The State might very well sneak into the top ten, but I will be with you in losing my shit if it's above KITH.
― Zoo Snickers (Deric W. Haircare), Friday, 11 December 2009 00:57 (sixteen years ago)
what on my excellently-rendered breakdown (well, deric's excellently-rendered and now rejigged breakdown) is possibly not gonna be here?
― 102. LJ: British. 5. (acoleuthic), Friday, 11 December 2009 00:58 (sixteen years ago)
well yw then
― Lamp, Friday, 11 December 2009 01:03 (sixteen years ago)
I'm proud that my #1 was Beavis and Butthead, so I'll just share that with you all right now.
The State deserves to place.
― billstevejim, Friday, 11 December 2009 01:10 (sixteen years ago)
My #1 was Quantum Leap.

I'm going to be doing the top ten at a fair old speed I'm afraid. Places to be.
need to see more of this, remember it from late night C4 but didn't get most of it aged 14.

I've got a spike through my head!

Oooooh. That was close. Should've placed higher, obvs, but I will content myself with its top ten placing.

From the movie I know, but it's surprisingly hard to find decent SP clips. Plus it's one of the funniest things ever.
― Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Friday, 11 December 2009 14:11 (sixteen years ago)
can't believe its still going
― mdskltr (blueski), Friday, 11 December 2009 14:12 (sixteen years ago)
The first couple seasons and the movie are golden. This decade, not so much.
― EZ Snappin, Friday, 11 December 2009 14:14 (sixteen years ago)
new SP is still better than approx 98% of what's on TV, and every now and again they produce something truly jaw-dropping
― stop grieving, it's only a chicken (darraghmac), Friday, 11 December 2009 14:16 (sixteen years ago)
I dont think it hit its peak until the middle of this decade tbh
― Michael B, Friday, 11 December 2009 14:16 (sixteen years ago)
first season is pretty bad
― Michael B, Friday, 11 December 2009 14:17 (sixteen years ago)
"Every now and again" is the key bit for me. Though you're right in that it is still better than most of the dreck on tv.
― EZ Snappin, Friday, 11 December 2009 14:17 (sixteen years ago)
The movie is the peak for me. Unfettered brilliance.
― EZ Snappin, Friday, 11 December 2009 14:18 (sixteen years ago)
The SP Lord Of The Rings parody was golden, and mostly because the script rested on re-creating the atmosphere of the movie rather than five fart gags a minute.
― HUH? not appropriate (snoball), Friday, 11 December 2009 14:19 (sixteen years ago)
the movie is what converted me on south park. i'd seen scattered episodes up to that point and was skeptical, but the movie was so good it made me go back to the series and find the good ones, of which there are plenty.
― hellzapoppa (tipsy mothra), Friday, 11 December 2009 14:20 (sixteen years ago)
dere american voters, heehee @ u for underestimating us and our knockabout satirical/farcical lulz
south park is brilliant obv
― 102. LJ: British. 5. (acoleuthic), Friday, 11 December 2009 14:21 (sixteen years ago)
the manga WOW episode is as good as anything produced for TV this decade.
― stop grieving, it's only a chicken (darraghmac), Friday, 11 December 2009 14:24 (sixteen years ago)

I think there's a bit of a misconception that SP is all crude jokes, when the best episodes are properly good comic storytelling.

anyway this is pretty much the funniest shit ever and it is the birthplace of so many comedy legends, also it is endlessly quotable. be thankful the whole thing's on youtube otherwise i'd indulge.
