Surely Brass Eye and South Park have to be in that top 10?
― Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Thursday, 10 December 2009 17:42 (sixteen years ago)
ok so this is as good a place as any to ask this, if i am a hardcore Wire In The Blood stan, are there any shows i should be searching out that have the same sort of thing going on?

is kids in the hall a total lock or are we forgetting something?
this top ten will be GREAT because 4 of my top 5 will be in it
― 102. LJ: British. 5. (acoleuthic), Thursday, 10 December 2009 17:45 (sixteen years ago)
Oh, yeah. KITH will def. be in the top 10.
― Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 10 December 2009 17:46 (sixteen years ago)
I suspect 1 of my top 5 will make the top 10. 3 have already appeared, and 1 is about to be wrongly overlooked.
― You treat your step-mother with respect, Pantera (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 10 December 2009 17:46 (sixteen years ago)
the top ten will be fun because youll all get to hear me go into another "i hate mad men you are all fucking idiots"-style petulant rampage if im alan partridge doesnt make it
― just pretend i am my dog and you will agree with me more (jjjusten), Thursday, 10 December 2009 17:47 (sixteen years ago)
5 of my top 7! The other two being Adam And Joe (already passed) and The Crystal Maze (lol)
IAP will not only make it but might hit top 5

My vote for How Do You Want Me? looking a bit optimistic now too.

LJ, Sesame Street is a lock if we have a '70s or '80s poll. Ha.

We're all watching that Mary Whitehouse Experience clip, right?
― HUH? not appropriate (snoball), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:10 (sixteen years ago)
Not me, I hated it the first time around and I doubt if it has got any funnier.
― Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:16 (sixteen years ago)
the American stuff on this poll is really lining up with my taste well, so far 11 shows from my ballot have appeared, plus 3 that will definitely appear later and 2 shows that were on my '00s ballot. by comparison 13 shows from my ballot were in the '00s poll.
i've lost all hope of seeing The Tick, SNL, Get A Life, Dr. Katz or Boy Meets World in the poll, though, which bums me out.
― some dude, Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:16 (sixteen years ago)
I just don't think SNL is gonna make it on any of these polls, unless maybe if there's an '80s poll. It doesn't seem decade-specific enough and it's generally too spotty to make it into the top slots. That mid to late-'80s run, though, is pretty unimpeachable.
― Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:19 (sixteen years ago)
SNL would definitely make my '80s list, partly because I'm not sure I could even come up with 25 '80s shows ... because I was a child and I refuse to include the stuff I actually watched then, like Alf and Family Matters and the like.
― real bears playing hockey (polyphonic), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:22 (sixteen years ago)
And Get A Life is another show that suffers from not having received a proper DVD release. I was one of the twelve people who watched it when it was on, and I've since tracked down the complete series torrents. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't know much of anything about it.
― Zoo Snickers (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:23 (sixteen years ago)
that seems like an odd thing to say given that a) surely the show would do better in a '70s poll and b) most of the cast members that defined the show in the mid and late '80s were on it well into the '90s. xpost
― some dude, Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:24 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, I honestly wonder how much mileage we'd get out of an '80s poll. It would surely be even more infantile than this one. Ha ha ha. I can think of a few more mature shows I'd vote for, though, for sure.
― Zoo Snickers (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:25 (sixteen years ago)
A 70s poll would be good. Dr Who and Fawlty Towers ftw.
― Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:27 (sixteen years ago)

a) Althought I like it fine, I'm not personally the biggest fan of the '70s cast of SNL, and b) after the first couple of years, the first half of the '90s was a slow decline for SNL.
― Zoo Snickers (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:28 (sixteen years ago)
yeah but late 90s SNL >>>>> early 80s SNL
― some dude, Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:30 (sixteen years ago)
I feel like a 70s poll wd drive the transAtlantic wedge in even further as I feel like less shows crossed from the UK to the US back then. Are You Being Served and Benny Hill iirc.
Also wd vote Rockford Files over the mummified corpse of Fawlty Towers.
― You treat your step-mother with respect, Pantera (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:31 (sixteen years ago)
Interestingly enough, I've been watching Doumanian-era (1980) SNL lately, and it's actually not all that bad so far! History is written by the victors...
― Zoo Snickers (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:36 (sixteen years ago)
This poll has a lot of adolescenty stuff in it, imagine what a '70s poll would be like. All Mary, Mungo & Midge at #18 and so on. Bagpuss ftw etc.
TiSWAS!
― DavidM, Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:37 (sixteen years ago)
do they rerun doumanian SNL in the states? have never seen any, want to see the one where bill murray guest-hosted...
― stevie, Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:46 (sixteen years ago)
To my knowledge they don't rerun it. They'll rerun the Piscopo-era stuff sometimes but not often.
― real bears playing hockey (polyphonic), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:50 (sixteen years ago)
I'm not aware of them rerunning it anytime recently, no. I acquire most of my obscure TV stuff via not entirely legitimate means...

Mysterious Cities of Gold would probably take my no. 1 spot in a hypothetical 80s poll. I was so deep into that.

I'd say that The Cosby Show has about as much chance of winding up in the top ten as Silk Stalkings does.
― Zoo Snickers (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 10 December 2009 19:30 (sixteen years ago)
i think Cosby Show is thought of enough as an '80s show, and its '90s seasons are thought of enough as "the Raven Symone era," that it could totally miss this poll.
― some dude, Thursday, 10 December 2009 19:35 (sixteen years ago)
this is an abomination
― Lamp, Thursday, 10 December 2009 19:36 (sixteen years ago)
BTW, stevie, the sets I've bought from the dude who sells complete SNL seasons on the afore(un)mentioned site are of shockingly high quality. I was expecting them to all be barely watchable transfers from rapidly-degrading VHS, but such has not been the case as of yet.
― Zoo Snickers (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 10 December 2009 19:37 (sixteen years ago)
