― Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 10 December 2009 01:52 (sixteen years ago)
my younger brother was landed with 'pinky' as a nickname for 6 years of secondary education simnply because he sat next to a guy looked exactly like "the brain" on the first day of school. life lessons.
so, i kinda hope that shows up.
― Louis Cll (darraghmac), Thursday, 10 December 2009 01:54 (sixteen years ago)
yeah Ren & Stimpy'll definitely make it, and I'm still pulling for The Adventures of Pete & Pete. what thread have you been reading, kells? this poll has had so many cartoons and kids' shows so far, if no Nickelodeon per se.
― some dude, Thursday, 10 December 2009 02:25 (sixteen years ago)
havent been reading it, that's the thing. just gonna be kinda disappointed if there's no classic nick shows, though, but i'm biased cuz that's what i grew up on
― k3vin k., Thursday, 10 December 2009 02:33 (sixteen years ago)
Loving the idea that two series as radically different as Friends and Spaced placed so high, where the attraction is purely about the tight writing and Swift-ian puns and not just because they was unfunny bollocks with characters that their respective audiences thought was role models.
― Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 10 December 2009 02:38 (sixteen years ago)
yeah sure grandad ross was my role model. did you only get up to use the bathroom?
― Louis Cll (darraghmac), Thursday, 10 December 2009 02:40 (sixteen years ago)
Dude I never named manes.

Still laugh at that ep where Raymond plays Crash Bandicoot cos he's missing Billie Piper tho.

Ah I'm just worried that Inspector Morse isn't gonna make the cut.
― Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 10 December 2009 10:54 (sixteen years ago)
Damn! I mis-read the closing date on this poll.
Oh well. My #1 was MST3K.

probably most dated/out of fashion show here. easy to forget how huge/popular it was for a while.
― mdskltr (blueski), Thursday, 10 December 2009 14:00 (sixteen years ago)
i think people will be shook it's that low
― Louis Cll (darraghmac), Thursday, 10 December 2009 14:02 (sixteen years ago)
man those last few seasons tho... i don't think i could watch any of it ever again
― mdskltr (blueski), Thursday, 10 December 2009 14:03 (sixteen years ago)
I thought it was terrible at the time. Not giving a shit about either of the two main characters didn't help.
― Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Thursday, 10 December 2009 14:04 (sixteen years ago)
Cancer Man was my favourite TV villain until Ben Linus tho - and his final death scene has still probably not been matched for glorious OTT-ness
― mdskltr (blueski), Thursday, 10 December 2009 14:06 (sixteen years ago)
Quite liked it when they did monster of the week, no patience at all for the overarching alien conspiracy bullshit.
― Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Thursday, 10 December 2009 14:06 (sixteen years ago)
in a TV series at least xp
Quite liked it when they did monster of the week, no patience at all for the overarching alien conspiracy bullshit
other way round for me
― mdskltr (blueski), Thursday, 10 December 2009 14:07 (sixteen years ago)
i lost track of the show while at college because it was hard to see anything on Sky at that point. the video releases of the last 8 or so alien conspiracy episodes (up to Mulder's own abduction) ended up being the last VHS tapes i ever rented out, watched it all on a tiny TV at home over a weekend and it was strangely awesome.
― mdskltr (blueski), Thursday, 10 December 2009 14:10 (sixteen years ago)
also seemed like unprecedented production values for a US drama back then - looked and felt like a movie quite often. its success surely paved the way for subsequent big expensive dramas, even the non-sci-fi ones, so its an important TV milestone imo.
― mdskltr (blueski), Thursday, 10 December 2009 14:12 (sixteen years ago)
Wow! I thought for sure it'd end up in the top ten, but it ended up pretty much where it should have. As everyone says: dated, not as good as was once hyped, etc.
and his final death scene has still probably not been matched for glorious OTT-ness
^^^This. Rarely does filmed entertainment go to such lengths to declare, "Yes, this character is irrevocably deceased!"
I was way more into the bullshit at the time because I thought it was going somewhere. But at a certain point it became clear that they were making it up as they went along, and they weren't even doing that good a job of making it up. So upon rewatching the series, the standalone eps most definitely took the cake.
― Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 10 December 2009 14:14 (sixteen years ago)
its worth going back and watching seasons 2-4 or 5. there was a really great run that just sort of collapsed under its on weight
― max, Thursday, 10 December 2009 14:16 (sixteen years ago)
Gonna go a bit faster today cos I started late.

never 'got' it
― Louis Cll (darraghmac), Thursday, 10 December 2009 14:21 (sixteen years ago)
It's good, but quite gentle. A very odd rhythm for a cartoon, certainly.
― Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Thursday, 10 December 2009 14:22 (sixteen years ago)
never got it either, despite giving it a decent amount of attention. too sympathetic to a demographic i ain't really interested in, sorry regular good ol' american suburban types.
― poster x (ledge), Thursday, 10 December 2009 14:22 (sixteen years ago)
again, as with Daria, was always pleasantly surprised by it when i did bother to watch
― mdskltr (blueski), Thursday, 10 December 2009 14:23 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, there was a lot of subtle mockery of that demographic as well. As an inner city European I enjoyed it fine.

Dale, Boomhauer and Bill - i probably would've watched it more if it had all been based around them.

it went till this year? really?

a lot of the elemtnts are pretty spot-on, KOTH works because it straddles subtle mockery and sympathy for it subjects better than almost any other show i can think of imo

Another one that I'm not sure made it across the pond. That clip is very funny.
― Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Thursday, 10 December 2009 14:44 (sixteen years ago)
that show never really clicked for me, although it showing up now at least assures me that it won't outrank Kids In The Hall, in which event I would've had to set fire to this place
― some dude, Thursday, 10 December 2009 14:46 (sixteen years ago)
mr show pretty hit or miss for, but it hits hard
