I'd say Friends' ranking is just about right, in that it didn't make my ballot but probably was floating somewhere just outside the top 25.

2000s clip there, iirc

don't understand why some people reset their tv tastes/preferences along with Y2K bug.

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:01 (sixteen years ago)

Aww, Friends finished too low. I think most of the haterade this show gets is pretty knee-jerk. Yes, they're kinda lame people who get really excited about seeing Hootie & The Blowfish. But it's a good and funny show about lame people! C'mon!!! This is totally the show the Frasier fans described above: I would gladly sit and watch hours of Friends on a rainy Sunday. It's cozy.

I'm guessing that, because Space Ghost placed where it did, that Cartoon Planet isn't going to place at all. Which is a shame. CP is like the nutty cable access variety show the Space Ghost cast does on their off-hours to amuse themselves. Plus, CP has Brak, and lots of him! I love it a lot.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:03 (sixteen years ago)

xp, that's the point of the decade poll.

but in the case of friends, it actually got a lot better around season 7 (first broadcast 2000), and then really hit its stride around 8/9/10. earlier seasons are not quite like blackadder 1 vs. blackadder 2/3/4 different, but they are significantly less funny.

Awwwwwww part deux! Another low finish. Roseanne was probably the best traditional American sitcom of the '90s.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:07 (sixteen years ago)

o but u are wrong about friends getting funnier, if anything it sags in the middle.

my point on the decades split was people not voting for something because they voted in another separate poll for it are kinda being a little silly.

(Although I realize now, saying that, that my ballot may contradict my statement...)

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:08 (sixteen years ago)

at the risk of being obvious roseanne hain't aged well.

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:08 (sixteen years ago)

I never particularly liked it, but only watched it a handful of times.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:08 (sixteen years ago)

Though John Goodman is obviously great.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:09 (sixteen years ago)

well if it was better you'd have watched it more, right?

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:09 (sixteen years ago)

Ha, guess so!

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:10 (sixteen years ago)

Roseanne is on every night on TV Land for like three hours straight. I usually fall asleep watching it. <3

yeah, but i'm talking about the last 3/4 seasons here.

depends on the show and when the best parts aired really. I doubt anybody thought "I don't want to vote for the Simpsons again, I already voted for it in the 00s poll."

some dude, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:14 (sixteen years ago)

I dunno. It still had a lot of great gags up till the end, but the storylines were becoming stale and the characters increasingly 2-D and unlikeable (especially Skeletor-era Monica).

Having said that I'm pretty sure I've seen every episode, so I must actually like it.

pretty sure a lot of people have stated exactly this sentiment, tbh?

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:24 (sixteen years ago)

if anybody stands up and says they voted for Simpsons in the 00s poll and not this one and a hoy hoy and chap can verify it, I'll eat my hat.

some dude, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:25 (sixteen years ago)

(given that they voted in both polls, and that I buy a hat first)

some dude, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:26 (sixteen years ago)

eh i don't think i did this but couldn't, y'know, swear it. i'm almost certain i put simpson's into my 90's poll.

anyway, offering to eat your hat before you own a hat allows the escape route of buying an edible hat and i don't think it's a credible bargain tbh

that's one I expected to see a bit higher, maybe even top 10, but maybe some of the show's more fervent supporters didn't partake in the poll

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:45 (sixteen years ago)

oh this has started! lots of shows i have forgotten but not many i actually voted for, not that i can remember exactly what i voted for as the hotmail dog ate my homework ;(

i do know that my number 1 was this life. i was superobsessed with this first time around to the extent that i made the daft decision to do law just to be like anna/milly/warren/miles et al. what a tit i was.

loving some of the clips here:) red dwarf!

eh, that's some dude's hat btw

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 14:46 (sixteen years ago)

Burt Reynolds: Ha-ha! Yeah, I found this backstage, an over-sized hat. It's funny.

Alex Trebek: No, it's not!

Burt Reynolds: Sure it is. It's funny. It's funny because it's ah, bigger than, ah.. [ clears throat ] ..you know, a normal hat.

I've never really been able to get into MST3K. I appreciate its existence, but I just don't think it's a style of humor that appeals to me much.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 15:17 (sixteen years ago)

one of the founding MST3K members does "rifftrax" now which is essentially the same thing except it sometimes appears as an mp3 that you sync with the movie. i've heard "reign of fire" which is outstanding.

Cracker is my favourite gritty UK drama ever but i guess i just caught it at the right time. several gobsmacking :o scenes and situations. i rewatched pretty much all of it a couple of years back (it was on Homehoice/Tiscali TV on demand) tho and McGovern (and later Paul Abbott)'s tendency to dip over the realism line so as to thrust his points and ideas in yer face often jarred...kinda like Russell T Davies bigger uglier brother in a way.
