My favourite Vic & Bob series. I also have to post this clip, as it makes me unable to breathe from laughing.

Way the best Vic and Bob series, therefore one of the best things ever made. I don't know how shunted they were into doing the relatively accessible Shooting Stars but it was a poor cousin to their freeform stuff when it was in full effect.

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:38 (sixteen years ago)

too British; did not laugh.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:39 (sixteen years ago)

Somehow Vic and Bob's "impressions" always end up being truer than full-time impressionists' efforts, too.

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:40 (sixteen years ago)

If anyone can find a clip of that dog telling those stories that end with him saying "oh no, my wife's gonna kill me" in a cockney accent, I'll be eternally grateful if you link to it

FIFA Brutish & Short (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:42 (sixteen years ago)

Bob's Matthew Kelly is spot on.

The dog was Greg something, love him so much.

GREG MITCHELL HE RULE

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:43 (sixteen years ago)

Somebody should re-film the entire Only Fools and Horses just with Greg and his mates.

My hero!

FIFA Brutish & Short (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:44 (sixteen years ago)

Tragically I still say "My wife's going to kiiiiiiill me" all the time.

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:45 (sixteen years ago)

when did ILX TV polls jump the shark

C'mon, dude, I thought we'd all prepared ourselves for the fact that this poll was going to be pretty heavily tainted by nostalgia. I doubt there were very many of us who were old enough in the '90s to watch TV with a keen critical eye. Most of the stuff I voted for was stuff that I loved in high school. And mostly early high school, at that.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:45 (sixteen years ago)

:)

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:46 (sixteen years ago)

Agree with the somewhere above comment re: Shooting Stars. Would rather see Vic & Bob back with one of their knockabout sketch shows. That Stars For Eyes skit had me falling about laughing.

DavidM, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:47 (sixteen years ago)

anyway they jumped the shark at planet earth, everyone knows that.

i'm fully prepared for nostalgia- TMNT is a serious vote for me.

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:47 (sixteen years ago)

Bang Bang it's Reeves and Mortimer wasn't bad.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:49 (sixteen years ago)

No that was great too but it was really Smell of under a different name and I kind of included it mentally in my vote for Smell of.

2 of my Top 10 are gone already then.

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:51 (sixteen years ago)

i'm fully prepared for nostalgia- TMNT is a serious vote for me.

I didn't vote for it, but I sure wouldn't cry if it placed.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:53 (sixteen years ago)

Something tells me this poll is gonna get retarded pretty soon. In a good way.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 15:54 (sixteen years ago)

Tragically I still say "My wife's going to kiiiiiiill me" all the time.

^^^this. And I don't even have a wife.

My votes were fairly evenly split between shows I genuinely think were great and nostalgia shows. Except Knightmare really was great - fvck the haters.

Wow in fact I never even placed SS and I voted for Smell of and Big Night Out. Not saying it wasn't often v. funny and all but still.

Just how did Joe Cornish get the gig of writing the Tintin movie for Spielberg?

DavidM, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 16:34 (sixteen years ago)

the "tainted by nostalgia" crowd better be prepared to rattle off a long list of Good Serious Artistic Accomplishments in Television Sciences in the Nineteen Hundred and Nineties that didn't make the poll when this is all over.

radric in manehattan (some dude), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 16:40 (sixteen years ago)

I think the poll should be tainted by what people watched and liked in the 90s.

blue_eyes chrono_trigger dirty engineer glasses (onimo), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 16:43 (sixteen years ago)

90% of the Brit stuff that's placed thus far is completely unknown to me. I'm contenting myself with the fact that Chip n' Dale's Rescue Rangers will inevitably take the top spot.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 16:46 (sixteen years ago)

I doubt there were very many of us who were old enough in the '90s to watch TV with a keen critical eye.

I'm 45 and still waiting for this keen critical eye business to kick in (goes back to watching Hotel Babylon).

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 16:49 (sixteen years ago)

gotta be honest i think a keen critical eye would spoil 95% of TV. i can't watch sci-fi on tv, for instance, and i'm terrified it's gonna kick in for other shows soon.

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 16:51 (sixteen years ago)

this is why I'm down to just Lost, TCM and sports

Okay, that's just kinda stupid. I really do think Home Improvement might place now.

Fresh Prince is straight-up "It beats staring at a wall" TV.

incredibly rong

will smith's pretty damn great on that show.

like s1-s3 has such good gags and will smith was genuinely charming imo!!!

plus, carlton's a good foil for him.

Moreno, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 17:08 (sixteen years ago)

fresh prince is the best thing if you stop watching before the boring moral bits at the end. 'the boring moral bits at the end' is basically how I imagine every episode of the cosby show is btw.

adorable cheese inscription (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 17:11 (sixteen years ago)

Totally expected those last two entries to place much higher than they did, Adam & Joe have had a career renaissance in the UK of late and I thought the Fresh Prince would be one of those big unifying forces given that people on both sides of the Atlantic seem to remember it fondly.

Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 17:11 (sixteen years ago)

ya, i'm thinking fresh prince took a hit b/c of how much of a d-bag will smith is now :/

I love in Arrested Development when little George Michael stays up, with a metal funnel on his head, to watch the debut of Oz on HBO.

mascara and ties (Abbott), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 17:19 (sixteen years ago)

I dunno. I mean, I used to watch Fresh Prince, but I also used to watch, like, Suddenly Susan during a time in life when I was seemingly completely devoid of critical faculties. Granted, I haven't watched it in a decade+, so I have no idea how it holds up.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 17:22 (sixteen years ago)

Gave plentya points to A&J; love 'em, love 'em, love 'em. They're just naturally hilarious people, and they got on TV. And they had loads of great ideas! Fantastic stuff.

102. LJ: British. 5. (acoleuthic), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 17:25 (sixteen years ago)

They repeated some of the early Fresh Princes on BBC2 about ten years ago, and they were pretty good. Nice loose performances, and surprisingly political - I mean it wasn't Do the Right Thing, but there was more of that kind of stuff than I remembered.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 17:26 (sixteen years ago)

dug the occasional meta-joke on Fresh Prince.
