will never forget the one where they had to travel through the WB backlot to stop a rogue producer, with a jim morrison guy turning up to sing about where they were in the story.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:16 (sixteen years ago)

What's next, Teletubbies?

iirc Yakko packed away the snacks while Bill Clinton played the sax

If Animaniacs placed this low, it probably signals that we haven't seen a critical re-appraisal of Might Morphin Power Rangers yet.

Anyway:

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:33 (sixteen years ago)

<3 that Conan got in, wasn't sure if I was throwing my vote away like w/ so many US late night talk shows in the 00s poll

radric in manehattan (some dude), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:34 (sixteen years ago)

There's no hope for me

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:35 (sixteen years ago)

There's no hope for me, and that's shit.

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:37 (sixteen years ago)

radric in manehattan (some dude), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:37 (sixteen years ago)

Hang on, is that a "if you didn't make a kids TV show in the 90s you can't criticise them at all" argument or do I misunderstand?

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:38 (sixteen years ago)

haha no, i just misread the context of your post, my bad

radric in manehattan (some dude), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:38 (sixteen years ago)

no probs. I remember quite liking Animaniacs but not that shit in the clip. Slappy Squirrel, Goodfeathers and Chicken Boo were good tho.

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:40 (sixteen years ago)

didnt vote for it because i placed it so in other poll

adorable cheese inscription (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:40 (sixteen years ago)

Anyway, this is gonna be one of those "I was already a grumpy old man in the 90s" vs "tsk you kids" kinda polls.

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:41 (sixteen years ago)

i already had this argument in the nominations thread, but i'll reiterate: Freaks & Geeks only aired 6 episodes in the '90s, and it did really well on the '00s poll, so there was absolutely no need to have it in this poll, and it probably bumped some great show that was on for a hundred episodes out of the list.

radric in manehattan (some dude), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:41 (sixteen years ago)

vs? aren't those things exactly the same grumps?

adorable cheese inscription (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:42 (sixteen years ago)

yeah but it meant today i saw haverchuck in drag and is thus worth making it

adorable cheese inscription (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:43 (sixteen years ago)

yeah but I guess I meant the second option to be "hi i was a kid and wd like to vote for whatever bollocks I dug when I was 12" kinda position

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:44 (sixteen years ago)

I get what you're saying, but I couldn't have excluded it in good conscience. I think it garnered less votes than it would've if the 00s poll hadn't existed for the reasons you've pointed out.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:46 (sixteen years ago)

if only we got rufus to vote in the 00s countdown :(

adorable cheese inscription (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:47 (sixteen years ago)

Animaniacs placed pretty much solely based on nostalgia. Not that I'm hatin', I'm just sayin'. It wasn't that good a show, and that '90s WB animation (also featured on Tiny Toon Adventures) was pretty abysmal. But then so was most animation in the '90s.

P.S. I hope X-Men is top ten.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:50 (sixteen years ago)

also voted for x-men

adorable cheese inscription (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:56 (sixteen years ago)

ok your endorsement of X-Men was ironic right, talk about shows that haven't aged well

radric in manehattan (some dude), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:57 (sixteen years ago)

My endorsement of X-Men was only semi-ironic, in that I recognize that it's an endorsement based solely on nostalgia.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:58 (sixteen years ago)

P.S. Did not vote for X-Men. ;_;

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:58 (sixteen years ago)

ok, because wanting X-Men to place over Batman TAS would be unconscionable

radric in manehattan (some dude), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:59 (sixteen years ago)

I am gonna breathe in deep and promise not to moan about kids' cartoons and fucking superheroes for the rest of the thread okay

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 14:00 (sixteen years ago)

I do want Suparmen TAS to place over Betmang TAS. How unconscionable is that shit?!

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 14:01 (sixteen years ago)

never saw the Superman show tbh, i guess it's at least in a similar league though

Batman was good, but I felt like they kept improving the formula with each subsequent show. JLA was the bomb. And they're all really among some of the best cartoons/superhero entertainment ever.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 14:04 (sixteen years ago)

It has aged really badly but I loved pretty much all of the first 6 series of Red Dwarf. These days I don't even pause as I pass it on my way through the cable channels but I think it deserves a place in the list.

blue_eyes chrono_trigger dirty engineer glasses (onimo), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 14:06 (sixteen years ago)

Can't believe I didn't vote for Red Dwarf.

It went on too long, and it wasn't that good at the beginning, and it suffered from the danger of all SF crossover shows: over-pandering to the nerd audience. But there are 4 or 5 seasons in the middle which are basically the classic formula of all great UK sitcoms: group of losers trapped in claustrophobic circumstances zinging the fuck out of each other. When it was like that, it was golden.

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 14:06 (sixteen years ago)

yeha, red dwarf was nearly as good as the brittas empire. psyched for keeping up appearances now.

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 14:07 (sixteen years ago)

I'm fond of Red Dwarf. Looking back, a lot of the jokes are a bit crap, but the stories and characters hold up well for the most part. I think the first two series are the best though, which were both broadcast in the 80s. There was an interesting atmosphere of loneliness and claustrophobia which were overwhelmed by sci-fi goofiness later on.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 14:08 (sixteen years ago)

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 14:25 (sixteen years ago)

no probs. I remember quite liking Animaniacs but not that shit in the clip. Slappy Squirrel, Goodfeathers and Chicken Boo were good tho.

I was recently disabused by the notion (implanted in my head by a friend from high school) that Slappy Squirrel was voiced by Kate Bush.
