Yeah, to be honest, it's why I wasn't the hugest fan. I liked the comic bunches, but I didn't really feel like the cartoon brought a lot to the table. I can see where you might really dig it, though, if you weren't aware of/interested in the comic.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 7 December 2009 19:35 (sixteen years ago)

really like this list so far.

Goddam, I forgot to vote again. Curses! If Twin Peaks finishes in the top 5, I will nevertheless feel fairly represented.

Those early '90s years when the show was very Brit-heavy were a revelation and an amazing introduction to music I may never have discovered otherwise. - OTM! Like ENBB, I snuck downstairs on Sundays to watch this & paid the price may times over during Monday first period. The show lost me during the Pinfield era, as it progressively became nothing more than a rehash of the same alt-rock/nu-punk roster that MTV's main playlist consisted of.

"You're watching 120 Minutes on MTV. I'm your host, Dave Kendall, & here is the new one from The Judybats."

I missed the deadline as well. Initially I wasn't too keen on voting anyway, as my age means I'd be viewing a lot of this through the prism of youth/nostalgia over actual quality. However, an actual rundown of the shortlist I mocked up surprised me by mostly being shows of verifiable quality. Day Today and Buffy would have jostled for my top vote. I hope Sports Night is represented somewhere as well.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Monday, 7 December 2009 21:41 (sixteen years ago)

The show lost me during the Pinfield era

Yeah, but the early part of the 90s had plenty of pre-Pinfield greatness.

Judybats! Woooohooooo KNOXVILLE

Tracer Hand, Monday, 7 December 2009 21:59 (sixteen years ago)

Wow, Frasier scored low!

..I have the Fast show a high placing.

...

....Shall I get it? Shall I?

Like ENBB, I snuck downstairs on Sundays to watch this & paid the price may times over during Monday first period.

One of the (in retrospect) delightful things about the 120 Minutes airtime is that I pointedly didn't do this all that much. I often just taped it and watched it the next day, which means I have a ton of the stuff floating around somewhere on rapidly-degrading VHS tapes.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 7 December 2009 22:38 (sixteen years ago)

^ Oh but sneaking to watch it at midnight was 1/2 the fun.

The show lost me during the Pinfield era, as it progressively became nothing more than a rehash of the same alt-rock/nu-punk roster that MTV's main playlist consisted of.

Oh see I watched mainly the Pinfield stuff. I think I too young and not quite cool enough to know about it any earlier than that. At the time though I was pretty into the stuff you described so it was OK by me.

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 12:36 (sixteen years ago)

problem with this poll was that i couldn't remember too many shows, and i'll no doubt be kicking myself as ones i should have remembered/voted for come up.

frasier deserved a higher placing, i think. yeah it's arch and frou-frou, but all sitcom characters have to have some basic charactersics to riff on. at least frasier's were different.

Louis Cll (darraghmac), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 12:45 (sixteen years ago)

There were a few years that I watched Conan every night upon getting home from work. I can't remember many of the bits now though - the In the Year 2000 segment was great, in it's time. Was there a running gag about Preparation H? The Max Weinberg 7 were great. Kinda surprised that he placed this high.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 12:47 (sixteen years ago)

xpost

Like I said I like Frasier. It feels like a good winter show actually, would be nice to curl up with a bunch of eps + some booze about now. I was trying to account for why it doesn't inspire much devotion, seemingly.

will never forget the one where they had to travel through the WB backlot to stop a rogue producer, with a jim morrison guy turning up to sing about where they were in the story.

If Animaniacs placed this low, it probably signals that we haven't seen a critical re-appraisal of Might Morphin Power Rangers yet.

Anyway:

<3 that Conan got in, wasn't sure if I was throwing my vote away like w/ so many US late night talk shows in the 00s poll

Hang on, is that a "if you didn't make a kids TV show in the 90s you can't criticise them at all" argument or do I misunderstand?

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:38 (sixteen years ago)

haha no, i just misread the context of your post, my bad

radric in manehattan (some dude), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:38 (sixteen years ago)

no probs. I remember quite liking Animaniacs but not that shit in the clip. Slappy Squirrel, Goodfeathers and Chicken Boo were good tho.

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:40 (sixteen years ago)

didnt vote for it because i placed it so in other poll

adorable cheese inscription (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:40 (sixteen years ago)

Anyway, this is gonna be one of those "I was already a grumpy old man in the 90s" vs "tsk you kids" kinda polls.

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:41 (sixteen years ago)

i already had this argument in the nominations thread, but i'll reiterate: Freaks & Geeks only aired 6 episodes in the '90s, and it did really well on the '00s poll, so there was absolutely no need to have it in this poll, and it probably bumped some great show that was on for a hundred episodes out of the list.

radric in manehattan (some dude), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:41 (sixteen years ago)

vs? aren't those things exactly the same grumps?

adorable cheese inscription (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:42 (sixteen years ago)

yeah but it meant today i saw haverchuck in drag and is thus worth making it

adorable cheese inscription (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:43 (sixteen years ago)

yeah but I guess I meant the second option to be "hi i was a kid and wd like to vote for whatever bollocks I dug when I was 12" kinda position

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:44 (sixteen years ago)

I get what you're saying, but I couldn't have excluded it in good conscience. I think it garnered less votes than it would've if the 00s poll hadn't existed for the reasons you've pointed out.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:46 (sixteen years ago)

if only we got rufus to vote in the 00s countdown :(

adorable cheese inscription (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:47 (sixteen years ago)

Animaniacs placed pretty much solely based on nostalgia. Not that I'm hatin', I'm just sayin'. It wasn't that good a show, and that '90s WB animation (also featured on Tiny Toon Adventures) was pretty abysmal. But then so was most animation in the '90s.

P.S. I hope X-Men is top ten.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:50 (sixteen years ago)

also voted for x-men

adorable cheese inscription (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:56 (sixteen years ago)

ok your endorsement of X-Men was ironic right, talk about shows that haven't aged well

radric in manehattan (some dude), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:57 (sixteen years ago)

My endorsement of X-Men was only semi-ironic, in that I recognize that it's an endorsement based solely on nostalgia.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:58 (sixteen years ago)

P.S. Did not vote for X-Men. ;_;

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 13:58 (sixteen years ago)

ok, because wanting X-Men to place over Batman TAS would be unconscionable
