I don't think I placed Frasier at all and there is more than 1 US sitcom I placed v. high indeed.

And 218 shows got a nod.

The kindest thing you cd say about the Fast Show is that it hasn't aged well. And the sketch with John Thomson as the rapey chef is all time. But otherwise totes agree with Matt.

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 December 2009 15:17 (sixteen years ago)

ah now rowley birkin was good

caek, Monday, 7 December 2009 15:19 (sixteen years ago)

Two first place votes for This Life! Fair play, though I didn't vote for it I never missed an episode way back when. I was really into it, so I can't moan.

DavidM, Monday, 7 December 2009 15:20 (sixteen years ago)

The Fast Show was great. Had its share of misses of course, but less than you might expect.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Monday, 7 December 2009 15:20 (sixteen years ago)

lots of it was good is the thing

mdskltr (blueski), Monday, 7 December 2009 15:20 (sixteen years ago)

Rowley Birkin was 1 joke that wasn't funny to begin with. And Paul Whitehouse needs to take his attempts to inject pathos into the sketch show and stuff them right up his (drunken mumble argle bargle hahaha catchphrase)

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 December 2009 15:21 (sixteen years ago)

Anyway I would imagine this will be a walk for Twin Peaks whatever happens, although I can't remember how much of the really good stuff happened in the 80s.

Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Monday, 7 December 2009 15:22 (sixteen years ago)

Ralph & Ted had tons of pathos IMO.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Monday, 7 December 2009 15:22 (sixteen years ago)

twin peaks was all 90s

caek, Monday, 7 December 2009 15:23 (sixteen years ago)

Our Joel is heavily into Harry Enfield at the moment and he keeps making me watch old Harry/Paul stuff and 9 tenths of it is like Jesus what were they thinking what was I thinking was the whole country hammered thru the 90s?

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 December 2009 15:23 (sixteen years ago)

I lie: I did vote for This Life, it seems. House of Cards, GBH, and Big Night Out are the others from my ballot that have appeared so far.

DavidM, Monday, 7 December 2009 15:23 (sixteen years ago)

nothing off my ballot so far

caek, Monday, 7 December 2009 15:24 (sixteen years ago)

Swear to God the last half dozen episodes of Fast Show were no jokes just characters looking sad at the camera while Charlie Higson held up a DO YOU SEE? sign behind them

Rowley Birkin was ripped off a Phileas Fogg ad y'know.

Got no sound on the computer here but i bet that ad's funnier than every Rowley Birkin sketch ever.

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 December 2009 15:36 (sixteen years ago)

Batman -That was my number 2 show. It's really held up well - the aesthetic decision to set it in a no-man's land of time, with influences from all eras of the character, was a smart one.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 7 December 2009 15:37 (sixteen years ago)

That ad's pretty funny.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Monday, 7 December 2009 15:43 (sixteen years ago)

loooooooooooool@frasier tattoo. kinda disappointing tht each show isn't accompanied by a tattoo pic

SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (webinar), Monday, 7 December 2009 15:47 (sixteen years ago)

Could probably find a Batman and a GBH. Impressed if somebody finds a Wonder Years tattoo. Impressed or depressed, anyway.

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 December 2009 15:49 (sixteen years ago)

fuck haters, the Birkin sketch where he goes all sad and serious at the end is still gold

mdskltr (blueski), Monday, 7 December 2009 15:51 (sixteen years ago)

oh i'll still rep for birkin, and yep that one in partic.

never liked the 'sad at the end' birkin sketch, but the one where he suddenly yelps "snake!" would still make me laugh today.

going to rep for the wonder years too. i was roughly kev arnold's age when it first ran, so it was key famiuly viewing at mine because i identified w/him, and my dad loved the music and was also hella sentimental. caught some episodes the other week by accident while staying at my brother's (he has sky) and while it was more mawkish than i'd remembered it, i do think the show was pretty good at capturing some of the confusion of adolescence. though it was a little smug about it.

Baligh Hamdi, the "Big Pimpin'" guy (stevie), Monday, 7 December 2009 16:04 (sixteen years ago)

I know 120 Minutes ran for the whole decade, but I never watched it post-'91. It is 80s TV in my mind.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 7 December 2009 16:08 (sixteen years ago)

120 mins was on (iirc) from 12-2 which was past my bedtime in HS so I used to sneak downstairs and watch it while my parents slept. <3 <3 <3 I have v fond memories of this show as a result.

★彡☆ ★彡 (ENBB), Monday, 7 December 2009 16:10 (sixteen years ago)

I very clearly remember seeing the video for "Just like Heaven" on 120 mins when I was about 12 or 13 and thinking it was the best song I'd ever heard. I bought my first Cure CD the next day.

★彡☆ ★彡 (ENBB), Monday, 7 December 2009 16:13 (sixteen years ago)

The first of my nominees! I started watching 120 Minutes when I lived on a Navy base in 9th grade (prolly, like, 120 minutes away from anything that might be considered civilization). So I was stranded in this weird oasis with no one else my age and living in southern Indiana and feeling like an outcast in a new school and having nothing to really connect with. I stumbled upon late night MTV programming and I remember seeing The Sundays' 'Here's Where The Story Ends' for the first time on 120 Minutes, and I was totally sold. Those early '90s years when the show was very Brit-heavy were a revelation and an amazing introduction to music I may never have discovered otherwise.

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 7 December 2009 16:14 (sixteen years ago)

'00s poll : '90s poll :: "I really liked this show!" : "This show changed my life!!!"

Pooping And Crying (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 7 December 2009 16:15 (sixteen years ago)

Those early '90s years when the show was very Brit-heavy

Yeah, exactly. This is probably to blame for my <3 of brit pop even to this day.

★彡☆ ★彡 (ENBB), Monday, 7 December 2009 16:21 (sixteen years ago)

sad that 120 Minutes is in this but Party Zone won't be

mdskltr (blueski), Monday, 7 December 2009 16:23 (sixteen years ago)

Whereas I think being in Britain at the time accounts for my hatred of Britpop even to this day.

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 December 2009 16:23 (sixteen years ago)

lol

★彡☆ ★彡 (ENBB), Monday, 7 December 2009 16:24 (sixteen years ago)

Party Zone? Never heard of it. Care to elaborate?

EZ Snappin, Monday, 7 December 2009 16:25 (sixteen years ago)

I think it was this show where you could phone up ladies in their underwear and if you paid them money they would do a little dance and take their bra off.

Noodle. Tool. 2. Kool (Noodle Vague), Monday, 7 December 2009 16:26 (sixteen years ago)

That reminds me: no one remembered to nominate MTV Grind. That was a fucking funny show.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Monday, 7 December 2009 16:28 (sixteen years ago)

So kinda like The View?

EZ Snappin, Monday, 7 December 2009 16:28 (sixteen years ago)

I know 120 Minutes ran for the whole decade, but I never watched it post-'91. It is 80s TV in my mind.

that's why i didn't vote for it, my personal associations with it are mostly late '80s, even though i probably watched it into '91 or '92.

i did vote for house of cards despite only having seen the first series. i've been meaning to watch the rest, the first one was good.

hellzapoppa (tipsy mothra), Monday, 7 December 2009 16:29 (sixteen years ago)

I think that is an age thing. I turned 18 in '90, and just wasn't around to see 120 Minutes anymore.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 7 December 2009 16:31 (sixteen years ago)

oops, i take that back. i didn't vote for house of cards, it just got bumped off my list. still. need to see the rest of it.

hellzapoppa (tipsy mothra), Monday, 7 December 2009 16:31 (sixteen years ago)

You should, all the series are quality. The second has a fantastic turn from Michael Kitchen as King Charles and is probably my favourite.

And that's your lot for today.

Communi-Bear Silo State (chap), Monday, 7 December 2009 16:39 (sixteen years ago)

The second show from my ballot; really odd, really poignant. Am very excited MTV is making this available as a burn-to-order DVD through Amazon.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 7 December 2009 16:40 (sixteen years ago)

Party Zone? Never heard of it. Care to elaborate?

it was basically 120 Minutes but for dance music (at least the kind that didn't end up getting played on the Euro editions of 120M in the 90s) - airing on MTV Europe for nearly 10 years. mainly just videos (often the first show to air them) but expanded to feature studio guests (from A Guy Called Gerald to Jean-Michel Jarre) each week, live performances, reports from festivals etc.

mdskltr (blueski), Monday, 7 December 2009 16:46 (sixteen years ago)

I loved The Maxx but would rather see Liquid Television on here

recently waded thru huge playlists of old MTV shit on YouTube and discovered Stevie Washington The Angry Youth for the first time - nutso
