la monte jung (cutty), Friday, 4 December 2009 16:01 (sixteen years ago)

anyway NEW QUESTION, how come a bunch of the apps i downloaded don't work, they just drop back to the home screen after 2 secs? Shazam, Stanza, NetNewsWire, Urbanspoon...

poster x (ledge), Friday, 4 December 2009 16:12 (sixteen years ago)

u have to save the apps in a draft folder

la monte jung (cutty), Friday, 4 December 2009 16:17 (sixteen years ago)

What os + have you reinstalled them?

The way to find out what's crashing them is to read the console log and crash reports. You can do this from XCode (hook the phone up, go to Organiser from window menu, choose Console tab) but this might need a developer certificate sry

stet, Friday, 4 December 2009 16:50 (sixteen years ago)

"version", i assume it means os, 3.1.2. yeah guess i'll try reinstalling although damn annoying it's happening on so many. including tubemap, wikipedia...

poster x (ledge), Friday, 4 December 2009 17:01 (sixteen years ago)

misread that as "tubmap"

This is maybe not the best place for this question, but: does anyone with an iPod Touch know the simplest way to be able to use the volume buttons as media controls (forward and back) while it's in lock mode, in your pocket? (It's insane that this isn't just built in -- that all relevant buttons are only on the crappy earbuds -- but everything I'm reading suggests it's possible, somehow, somewhere.)

oɔsıqɐu (nabisco), Tuesday, 29 December 2009 04:29 (sixteen years ago)

the apple in-ears are nice and have the same inline control (they are expensive though)

=皿= (dyao), Tuesday, 29 December 2009 04:44 (sixteen years ago)

Ha: on every forum I turn up, people say things along those lines. Here's the thing: I do not want to use earbuds or inline controls. I want to use the perfectly good cans I already use, and I want to be able to advance to the next song without pulling the thing out of my pocket and looking at the screen. I know this is possible somehow. (And if it's really not that's just demented.)

oɔsıqɐu (nabisco), Tuesday, 29 December 2009 04:55 (sixteen years ago)

tape the earbuds to your cans

How much have you spent on apps?

http://wetfish.de/software/app-store-expense-monitor/

Takes the current price of all your apps, which will be a bit off since I use BargainBin to get a lot of them on sale. Regardless, it says I've spent $366.86.

I'm really cheap.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 30 December 2009 02:23 (sixteen years ago)

A fair number of mine were purchased on sale/introductory prices of $0.99, but in total value now: $329.16

Nabisco doesn't the iPod have a shake to skip setting?

stet, Wednesday, 30 December 2009 03:58 (sixteen years ago)

The shake reshuffles entirely & does not happen when the thing is locked.

I guess it's nice that you can triple click the home button to bring up controls without actually unlocking, but I do wish I could get the button thing happening.

oɔsıqɐu (nabisco), Wednesday, 30 December 2009 08:34 (sixteen years ago)

that button thing is a great idea; I'm not sure u can do it tho afaik

cozwn, Wednesday, 30 December 2009 10:07 (sixteen years ago)

I think it can happen, but the sense I'm getting is that you can only set it up after doing all kinds of modding/breaking/etc., with regard to which I trust neither myself nor directions off the web

oɔsıqɐu (nabisco), Wednesday, 30 December 2009 21:04 (sixteen years ago)

$14,899.43

who sharted?! (s1ocki), Wednesday, 30 December 2009 21:05 (sixteen years ago)

There's no legit way to get access to the buttons from an app, and you can't detect shakes while the device is locked/sleeping, so there's no way to write something like this 3rd party, jailbreaking aside

stet, Wednesday, 30 December 2009 23:16 (sixteen years ago)

These will let you use your own headphone and 1) control the iPod functions, and 2) use your current heaphones and its microphone to answer the phone!

There are come competing models from other manufacturers that do the same thing, so feel free to shop around. It's not quite using the buttons on the actual phone, and it's another dongle to buy, but it's a good compromise.

throwbookatface (skygreenleopard), Thursday, 31 December 2009 01:07 (sixteen years ago)

so my iphone had started just shutting down randomly even when it had full battery--took it in to the apple store and they were kind enough to give me a new one even tho i a) hadnt enrolled myself in the applecare i bought (i guess i assumed it was auto-enroll, which i dont think is such a weird thing to assume, and now i have to go dig up the box and manually enroll myself, which is irritating) and b) they definitely thought that i was just running too many applications (?) or something

anyway i am in the process of setting this bitch up again and for some reason it wont let me sync my mail accounts--the box in itunes to sync selected mail accounts is greyed out. none of the other boxes are. any ideas why this is?

max, Thursday, 31 December 2009 01:14 (sixteen years ago)

why can't you listen to your itunes library through an iphone when you're on the same wifi network, is what I want to know

akm, Thursday, 31 December 2009 04:39 (sixteen years ago)

max i like how email not working on your iphone has become like your "thing"

super mario bros. (s1ocki), Thursday, 31 December 2009 04:50 (sixteen years ago)

why do you need to sync mail accounts?

bum-sniff deviant (cutty), Thursday, 31 December 2009 10:46 (sixteen years ago)

that syncs the messages in the account as linked through itunes. you just need to sync the mail account preferences. i know you use gmail so it's either IMAP or gmail activesync whatever...

bum-sniff deviant (cutty), Thursday, 31 December 2009 10:47 (sixteen years ago)

why can't you listen to your itunes library through an iphone when you're on the same wifi network, is what I want to know

or have your iphone push music out to airtunes and the big speakers, is what I wanna know

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 31 December 2009 12:39 (sixteen years ago)

if you are near an airtunes setup, your computer should be there too, no?

bum-sniff deviant (cutty), Thursday, 31 December 2009 12:57 (sixteen years ago)

yes cutty i know--i just thought itd be easier to sync the settings than to re-enter them manually u know

max, Thursday, 31 December 2009 13:30 (sixteen years ago)

right, but what you are trying to do in itunes is sync the entirety of your mail accounts (all your messages)

don't do that

bum-sniff deviant (cutty), Thursday, 31 December 2009 13:45 (sixteen years ago)

what you are trying to do, is hold me back

max, Thursday, 31 December 2009 14:31 (sixteen years ago)

i'm trying to make u stronger

bum-sniff deviant (cutty), Thursday, 31 December 2009 14:40 (sixteen years ago)

Is there any way to auto reload apps after a restore? I've just lost them all - and it's the second time this has happened. Yes I took a backup. Yes I had 'sync applications' checked.

CATBEAST 7777 (ledge), Saturday, 2 January 2010 17:12 (sixteen years ago)

If they're still in iTunes, you go to the Applications tab and tick all the individual boxes for the apps you want, then sync. It unticks them if you delete them from the phone at any point
