crazy farting throwback jersey (gbx), Thursday, 3 December 2009 20:11 (sixteen years ago)

haven't run in 3 weeks. i think my foot is infected :(

harbl, Thursday, 3 December 2009 20:12 (sixteen years ago)

i could totally beat up gbx though

harbl, Thursday, 3 December 2009 20:13 (sixteen years ago)

6'0" tall, 154 pounds. My legs are in good shape, but my arms are like twigs.

Poor harbl foot!

The bugger in the short sleeves (NickB), Thursday, 3 December 2009 20:16 (sixteen years ago)

it's just a blister and it's scabbed over but i think the location is making it heal slowly? it's on the side of my heel and every time i walk it's like this nagging soreness. running might be easier than walking though, less heel strike

harbl, Thursday, 3 December 2009 20:19 (sixteen years ago)

maybe you should stop kicking gbx

jazzgasms (Mr. Que), Thursday, 3 December 2009 20:19 (sixteen years ago)

why would i kick him when i can just sit on him

harbl, Thursday, 3 December 2009 20:21 (sixteen years ago)

haha this thread made me weigh myself for the like the first time in forever

harbl i have found that alternating running with swimming has really helped cut down on minor injuries esp to my feet but ive turned into this big swimming proselytizer

Lamp, Thursday, 3 December 2009 20:28 (sixteen years ago)

oh it wasn't from running! i just had to wear normal shoes somewhere and underestimated the amt of walking i'd have to do basically. i wish i had a place to swim though.

harbl, Thursday, 3 December 2009 20:29 (sixteen years ago)

i am 5'10" and 155 but i don't think of myself as a running type ; )

harbl, Thursday, 3 December 2009 20:32 (sixteen years ago)

i am extremely wee compared to all of you. 5'2". maybe this is why i am so slow. (i think maria is short too, though, so there goes my theory)

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 December 2009 20:43 (sixteen years ago)

I'm like 5'7 and 185? But tza can rep that i am not porcine, i hope.

Drama Mama's and Papa's too! (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 3 December 2009 21:39 (sixteen years ago)

i am 5'7" and a fattey but uh... less of a fattey than i used to be? anyway it's a process, but i will never have a 'runner's physique' so whatever.

forks i have seen in states of normalcy and buffness but never fattness.

tehresa, Thursday, 3 December 2009 21:41 (sixteen years ago)

me too!

crazy farting throwback jersey (gbx), Thursday, 3 December 2009 21:45 (sixteen years ago)

i'm kind of in softening normalcy at the moment; starting to do those mile and a half nightly jogs and 20-40 minutes on the stationary bike to get back to a point where I can get my cardio on come January.

Drama Mama's and Papa's too! (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 3 December 2009 21:46 (sixteen years ago)

oh another thing - all my height is in my torso so that probably also makes me a bad runner but i like it so whatever.

tehresa, Thursday, 3 December 2009 21:47 (sixteen years ago)

sometimes i wonder if i am a weakling. for me, running 2.5 miles 4-5x a week is totally "getting my cardio on". i've never exercised this much in my entire life. any more and i would feel like it was taking over.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 December 2009 21:48 (sixteen years ago)

i have like the shortest torso! btw i'm very very slow

harbl, Thursday, 3 December 2009 21:54 (sixteen years ago)

(note: sometimes i run for 40-45 min, which brings up my distance, but more than 45 min and WHOA TIME TO GET OUT OF HERE)

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 December 2009 21:55 (sixteen years ago)

lechera, it's all really relative. this is less than i'd like to be doing but pretty much the max of what i feel comfortable with. There was a time when I was doing a lot more but never anywhere near some of the numbers I'm hearing on this thread. you're not a weakling, you're you and the elastic capabilities of you are really personal.

Drama Mama's and Papa's too! (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 3 December 2009 21:59 (sixteen years ago)

you're right
i'm certainly not ambitious enough to try any harder than i'm trying atm

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Thursday, 3 December 2009 22:01 (sixteen years ago)

i am rly interested in ppl's heights because they always surprise me. i had imagined forks and lechera being really tall people!

harbl, Thursday, 3 December 2009 22:02 (sixteen years ago)

all my height is in my torso so that probably also makes me a bad runner but i like it so whatever

lol u shld swim

Lamp, Thursday, 3 December 2009 22:02 (sixteen years ago)

i like how i abbrev'd in the first sentence but not the second wtf

harbl, Thursday, 3 December 2009 22:03 (sixteen years ago)

ha, i have been a lil' fire hydranty guy since high school and super shrimpy prior.

Drama Mama's and Papa's too! (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 3 December 2009 22:13 (sixteen years ago)

ha! really? i am (and, sadly, have always been) v short. it truly delights me to think that anyone ever thought i would be tall.

!!my sleepover camp name was shrimpy!!!

hah lamp i did competitive swimming from like 5-16 and then i got all music schooly.

i love swimming :) but i was never really a champion at that, either. haw.

tehresa, Thursday, 3 December 2009 22:17 (sixteen years ago)

wish I ws 154 lbs

SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (cozwn), Thursday, 3 December 2009 22:18 (sixteen years ago)

didn't really picture u as 5'7" john

SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (cozwn), Thursday, 3 December 2009 22:19 (sixteen years ago)

i wish i was 154 lbs too but i also feel like i would look weird.

tehresa, Thursday, 3 December 2009 22:20 (sixteen years ago)

only when i'm wearing my high heels, xp

Drama Mama's and Papa's too! (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 3 December 2009 22:21 (sixteen years ago)

I'm 5'11 165lbs since it's show n tell day

SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (cozwn), Thursday, 3 December 2009 22:21 (sixteen years ago)

maybe 5'10 sbeen a while since I ws measured

SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (cozwn), Thursday, 3 December 2009 22:21 (sixteen years ago)

i'm short too - 5'1" - but i'm also really slow! i think this is mainly because i would rather run a long distance slowly than even a short distance quickly, though, so i don't really TRY to be fast. i think i'm a pretty medium build, but i don't have wiry obvious muscles so you probably wouldn't look at me and think "there's a runner!" oooh well.

Maria, Thursday, 3 December 2009 22:44 (sixteen years ago)

wait, are tall people better runners for some reason?

Drama Mama's and Papa's too! (forksclovetofu), Friday, 4 December 2009 02:51 (sixteen years ago)

wait, are tall people better runners for some reason?
--Drama Mama's and Papa's too! (forksclovetofu)

r u joking?

crazy farting throwback jersey (gbx), Friday, 4 December 2009 02:52 (sixteen years ago)

what, longer legs? I understand the ergonomics of it, but i also know lots of slow tall people and lots of short speedy folks too so... no, not joking?

Drama Mama's and Papa's too! (forksclovetofu), Friday, 4 December 2009 02:57 (sixteen years ago)

sorry that was rude

but yeah I think that all other things being equal a longer stride is better

crazy farting throwback jersey (gbx), Friday, 4 December 2009 02:59 (sixteen years ago)

my gf's sister is a marathon runner and she's a bit taller and her husband is about my height and they keep pace with each other and when i once said something about how "taller must make it easier" they looked at me like i was nuts

Drama Mama's and Papa's too! (forksclovetofu), Friday, 4 December 2009 03:06 (sixteen years ago)

I think it matters for sprinters!

crazy farting throwback jersey (gbx), Friday, 4 December 2009 03:08 (sixteen years ago)

yeah most of the fast people in hs i remember were pretty tiny

harbl, Friday, 4 December 2009 03:10 (sixteen years ago)

tall people are heavy

harbl, Friday, 4 December 2009 03:10 (sixteen years ago)

well n/m I take it all back

crazy farting throwback jersey (gbx), Friday, 4 December 2009 03:12 (sixteen years ago)

not disagreeing though, it has to be a combination of things! like relatively long legs for your height has to help but there is a point at which you are carrying too much i bet

harbl, Friday, 4 December 2009 03:14 (sixteen years ago)

I guess that it is long legged ppl are faster not tallies

crazy farting throwback jersey (gbx), Friday, 4 December 2009 03:15 (sixteen years ago)

Interesting! The same person who mentioned that I have a runners build said that I have long legs but a shortish stride (when running, not walking)and should try and increase it. Also I am trying to build up to 195lbs (my former weight) or thereabouts within 2-3 months, so it will be interesting to see what effect that has on my running.

Tehresa - I am hugely jealous of anyone who can swim WELL! I can swim for ages, but I am unbelievably slow and inefficient in the water. I really need some lessons.

Dr.C, Friday, 4 December 2009 10:37 (sixteen years ago)

yeah my gf is a great swimmer; I am woeful. if we go swimming it's basically just 1hr of me partially drowning and her lolling at me ;_;

SKATAAAAAAAAAAA (cozwn), Friday, 4 December 2009 10:40 (sixteen years ago)

I've heard that shorter people tend to be better runners because generally lower weight and lower center of gravity = more efficient movement, but given the trouble I sometimes have keeping up with taller people who are only walking quickly, I think stride length has to be a contributing factor to speed so height HAS to be helpful. Honestly I bet tall skinny people have it best.

Maria, Friday, 4 December 2009 14:24 (sixteen years ago)

the trouble I sometimes have keeping up with taller people who are only walking quickly
tell me about it! i'm a fast walker and still STILL! i have to tell people that i can't keep up with them because i'm a hobbit. it kind of irritates me actually. notice that i can't keep up and slow down so that i don't have to break into a trot in order to talk with you.

also: Honestly I bet tall skinny people have it best.
don't they ALWAYS.
