http://dustbowl.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/htc-hero-2.jpg

― thomp, Thursday, 3 December 2009 12:44 (sixteen years ago)
homescreen kinda looks like it's goin "why do you not feed me, master"
― Tracer Hand, Thursday, 3 December 2009 12:48 (sixteen years ago)
TBH thomp the "accidentally hit the silent switch" has gotten me into hot water at work!! (they were similarly pitiless when i told them what must have happened)
― Tracer Hand, Thursday, 3 December 2009 12:50 (sixteen years ago)
But you feel it buzz if you accidentally switch it to silent, and so switch it straight back, surely?
― exploding angel vagina (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 3 December 2009 12:56 (sixteen years ago)
i was gonna say — is this not a 'on vibrate' silent like the entire civilised world uses? or is this an actually silent with no warning at all setting? because that would be kind of annoying.
― thomp, Thursday, 3 December 2009 12:58 (sixteen years ago)
There is a little buzz when you put it on silent - which you of course notice straight away if you MEAN to switch it to silent. But the times when you have accidentally knocked it to silent also happen to be the times when there is confusing physical business happening in your pocket/bag/etc - i.e. shoving it quickly into an overcoat pocket where it knocks against something else as you answer the HOME phone which is ringing and holding a baby in the other hand.
If it worked like the Hold button on the iPod classic it would be fine.
― Tracer Hand, Thursday, 3 December 2009 13:02 (sixteen years ago)
well one solution is to never hold your baby
― max, Thursday, 3 December 2009 13:03 (sixteen years ago)
or answer your HOME phone
In many ways my life would be much more relaxing. And then, I fear, it would quickly become much more stressful.
― Tracer Hand, Thursday, 3 December 2009 13:06 (sixteen years ago)
but at least your iphone wouldnt be on silent
― max, Thursday, 3 December 2009 13:08 (sixteen years ago)
I should add this to Yahoo Answers
― Tracer Hand, Thursday, 3 December 2009 13:36 (sixteen years ago)
no SMS drafts? what kind of text message do you need to write a draft for?
― la monte jung (cutty), Thursday, 3 December 2009 15:55 (sixteen years ago)
afaik if you write something in a contacts SMS screen it stays there
― la monte jung (cutty), Thursday, 3 December 2009 15:56 (sixteen years ago)
the volume button thing makes no sense TH? if IPHONE is on it's side (volume rocker side down), then right = softer is just the rocker continuing to function precisely the way it did before you turned the phone
― crazy farting throwback jersey (gbx), Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:00 (sixteen years ago)
ftr if you get a case, the volume thing never happens; I didn't start having this problem until my old case fell apart and I decided I hated my new one
― Huckabee Jesus lifeline (HI DERE), Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:05 (sixteen years ago)
er I meant the ringer thing
yeah I have also never once had that happen BUT I also turn the ringer off like 90 percent of the time anyway
― crazy farting throwback jersey (gbx), Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:09 (sixteen years ago)

― coz (webinar), Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:11 (sixteen years ago)

― coz (webinar), Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:21 (sixteen years ago)
cutty when writing a txt sometimes you have to stop in the middle if something else comes up. yes, if the txt is for one of your previous txting companions you can go find the last txt they sent you, and enter it there, and then it's saved for later, but i often txt to multiple ppl so that doesn't work.
gbx haha i know.. but it's pretty lame given that sideways is THE way to watch video or play a game (unless you're watching one of your own vertical videos!!) .. the only way around it would be to make the screen rotate the OTHER way for video. not sure why it doesn't, TBH.
― Tracer Hand, Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:22 (sixteen years ago)
the thing about the case makes sense - the silent switch ends up being basically flush with the case? maybe i'll finally get one.
― Tracer Hand, Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:23 (sixteen years ago)
if your texts are so long that its a pain for you to rewrite them you should reconsider how you use texting imo
― max, Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:24 (sixteen years ago)
(xxp)
Er, it does. It rotates whichever way you turn it, you can have the volume rocker on the top or the bottom, it's up to you.
― JimD, Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:24 (sixteen years ago)
that would make more sense yeah
I think I would be way more confused/frustrated if the buttons suddenly REVERSED functions when I rotated the phone tho!
― crazy farting throwback jersey (gbx), Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:25 (sixteen years ago)
JimD not for Youtube videos. And not for games.
― Tracer Hand, Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:25 (sixteen years ago)
Well, the youtube app is broke in many ways. Games vary, I've found most will let you rotate either way.
― JimD, Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:27 (sixteen years ago)
exactly. this is like complaining that twitter doesn't let you write enough crap. write an email, dude!
― la monte jung (cutty), Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:27 (sixteen years ago)
maybe if i had started txting ON IPHONE i'd be trained in its spartan rigors but i have been using the SMS drafts folder since like 2003
― Tracer Hand, Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:28 (sixteen years ago)
yeah YouTube app works MAYBE ten percent of the time, I usually never bother, I gave up on it as a feature wihin the first week
― crazy farting throwback jersey (gbx), Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:28 (sixteen years ago)
btw email is a bourgeois affectation
― Tracer Hand, Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:30 (sixteen years ago)
you've been using SMS wrong since like 2003
― la monte jung (cutty), Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:33 (sixteen years ago)
i've sent more text messages than you've had hot dinners, friend
― Tracer Hand, Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:39 (sixteen years ago)
maybe you should write a novel in SMS
― la monte jung (cutty), Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:41 (sixteen years ago)
or maybe your life story
tracer are you like CORRESPONDING with people via text message or like TRANSCRIBING THE BIBLE on your phone or what
― max, Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:45 (sixteen years ago)
oh shit I would totally do a Twitter Bible
― Huckabee Jesus lifeline (HI DERE), Thursday, 3 December 2009 16:47 (sixteen years ago)

i love it when a so-called design defect turns out to be a human defect ;)
― la monte jung (cutty), Thursday, 3 December 2009 17:09 (sixteen years ago)
I don't think it's a defect at all. Safari pulls up the last web page you were using; all the Twitter apps I've used will save a Twitter message in progress if you were typing something when you exit the program. Notes app does too. The Voice Recorder even lets you exit the program and continue recording. Almost all other apps save where you're at whether the task itself is short or not; I don't know why Apple wouldn't incorporate a stress-free solution for txt msgs too, especially since every phone since the big brick Nokias with interchangeable faceplates has had that feature.
― throwbookatface (skygreenleopard), Thursday, 3 December 2009 19:17 (sixteen years ago)
You can save drafts in SMS, you just quit the app or hit back to save. You can have multiple drafts going at once, in different conversations.
― stet, Thursday, 3 December 2009 19:20 (sixteen years ago)
but if your SMS is not part of a previous conversation it doesn't work. or if you just start typing a new SMS willy nilly without first designating who it's going to.
― Tracer Hand, Friday, 4 December 2009 13:25 (sixteen years ago)
i.e. hit "cancel" and it's gone. in mail app if you hit cancel it gives you the option to save.
― Tracer Hand, Friday, 4 December 2009 13:26 (sixteen years ago)
Just quit the app and it does still save it, at least. Are you saving drafts to strangers? Note app might be a better place.
