uh, nate and serena are the hottest couple on tv, like, ever
― Do you love me now? (surm), Tuesday, 8 December 2009 21:02 (sixteen years ago)
But what about the abandonment of "Karen Finley" mentioning gal
― curmudgeon, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 22:21 (sixteen years ago)
I've never seen GG and I never watched the OC, but I looked forward to watching the 'L.A. in the 80s' spin-off "Lily," (starring Brittany Snow and tom Cruise-impersonator Miles Fisher). Why on earth was this not picked up by the CW?
― Cunga, Tuesday, 8 December 2009 23:08 (sixteen years ago)
Because GG hardly does great in the ratings dept already so a spinoff ended up not making a lot of $en$e to CW
― musically, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 03:12 (sixteen years ago)
Ah, i see.
But then why commission a spin-off pilot to start? That's like beginning the human cloning process before remembering that the person being cloned has an IQ of 78.
― Cunga, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 04:23 (sixteen years ago)
Gossip Girl started off strong, and I imagine crafting that episode probably had a longer lead time than average. And at the very least it was a buzz-worthy GG ep (I didn't watch the show at that time but was hearing all about it).
― musically, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 04:40 (sixteen years ago)
it was fine as an episode, not particularly whatever
― Do you love me now? (surm), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 04:46 (sixteen years ago)
and i think GG is strong at this time, in terms of quality -- it had a definite bullshit phase last season
Doesn't the exec producer of GG (the same guy who did the OC - Josh Schwartz - thanks, Wikipedia) always do this, where he'll have this buzz-worthy show that is much talked about and occasionally riveting but then it starts a steep decline way too soon? Wasn't that the problem with the OC? Didn't that shows' second season have a bullshitty phase, too?
― Cunga, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 04:56 (sixteen years ago)
yes
― Do you love me now? (surm), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 05:00 (sixteen years ago)
but i don't know if that one ever got better
― Do you love me now? (surm), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 05:01 (sixteen years ago)
Last season of The OC was the second best of the series.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 05:26 (sixteen years ago)
fuck u
― Do you love me now? (surm), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 05:36 (sixteen years ago)
haha just kidding xo
imho. The series really improved after they killed Mischa Barton.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 05:45 (sixteen years ago)
mischa barton's a fuckup with no skillz. sad thing about her recently cancelled "the beautiful life" . . . .
― Do you love me now? (surm), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 05:49 (sixteen years ago)
shes so nice to look at though
― drinking coke in the kitchen with a kid that doesnt know his n (sunny successor), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 21:21 (sixteen years ago)
the oc went to shit after the novelty of how improbably beautiful mischa barton is wore off
― plaxico (I know, right?), Thursday, 10 December 2009 00:37 (sixteen years ago)
Improbably beautiful? Were her parents hideous monsters?
― Cunga, Thursday, 10 December 2009 00:41 (sixteen years ago)
that sandy guy was memorably gross
― plaxico (I know, right?), Thursday, 10 December 2009 00:44 (sixteen years ago)
keeeeerstin was hot though
― plaxico (I know, right?), Thursday, 10 December 2009 00:45 (sixteen years ago)
Improbable, but not impossible, it seems.
― Cunga, Thursday, 10 December 2009 00:46 (sixteen years ago)
summer kicked everyone's ass though, no question
― Do you love me now? (surm), Thursday, 10 December 2009 15:14 (sixteen years ago)
that last season of the oc where mischa barton's pothead sister showed up was pretty good iirc
― Lamp, Thursday, 10 December 2009 19:51 (sixteen years ago)
the real problem w/gg btw is that is seems to want to make the old ppl the moral center of the show but is unaware of loathsome and boring and terrible they are
― Lamp, Thursday, 10 December 2009 19:53 (sixteen years ago)
wait so was that chuck's mom?
― tehresa, Wednesday, 16 December 2009 02:46 (sixteen years ago)
That is what she is gonna say in March when the show comes back.
― svend, Wednesday, 16 December 2009 03:46 (sixteen years ago)
The third season of The O.C. was the shitty season. It rebounded a bit for the fourth and final, but it was too late by that point.

Downloaded the second season of Gossip Girl - so weird how it wanted to be OC East, I think, but missed out on everything that made everyone in The OC likable (or interesting, at the least). Blake Lively and Leighton Meester are v. v. pretty, tho.

Speaking of The O.C., I never knew anything about this idea:
There were plans to turn the show into something of a reverse spin-off. Schwartz being the creative force behind the television series Gossip Girl planned to release a spin-off entitled Valley Girls, originally to premiere in the fall of 2009. Schwartz wanted to tie in the younger versions of the characters from both The O.C. and the principals from Valley Girls to establish a continuity with Gossip Girl.

LILY - omg the episode of lily's downfall was my fav episode

(not bc i dislike lily - i think kelly rutherford is aMAYzing on this show - just a great ep)

I'm unsure about this new one on three listens yet, but the song where Mark constantly rhymes about Gossip Girl plotlines is pretty LOL.

So that was a painfully bad episode.
― Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 14 February 2012 04:05 (fourteen years ago)
catching up with the last three episodes - it's not as bad as it was toward the middle of the season.
also, Leighton Meester just gets more amazing looking

series finale
anyone else bother watching?
― gyac, Tuesday, 18 December 2012 23:28 (thirteen years ago)
YES. What did you think, single other ILX viewer?
I know objectively speaking that the show is terrible, but it's me and and my partner's comfort viewing, and we'll both quite miss it.
― Chuck_Tatum, Thursday, 20 December 2012 14:37 (thirteen years ago)
otm ^^
― just1n3, Thursday, 20 December 2012 16:19 (thirteen years ago)
Yes, it was completely terrible, but I loved the final episode in a ridiculous way.
The ending is incredibly awful (and dark!) though, but if they were going to do the reveal I suppose it made sense in a fucked-up way.
I was reminded of when it was great/watchable (s1, s2) and that was about the most I could expect from the finale.
― gyac, Friday, 21 December 2012 17:56 (thirteen years ago)
was really happy that lily ended up with scheming jerk ex
― mh, Friday, 21 December 2012 19:10 (thirteen years ago)
poor pretty Nate, after all that trouble trying to uncover Gossip Girl's identity, he doesn't even get to find out for himself.
I'm gonna miss Georgina the most.
― Roz, Friday, 21 December 2012 19:28 (thirteen years ago)
Biggest surprise of the six seasons -- Liz Hurley was actually pretty great in this show. I mean, wooden as fuck, but somehow great nonetheless.
My favourite period of this show was the second season, when every episode it was Blair or Chuck doing the "I love you," "We can't do this now" conversation, and even thought they did it every bastard episode, it was somehow ALWAYS HEARTBREAKING.
― Chuck_Tatum, Sunday, 23 December 2012 21:58 (thirteen years ago)
oh wait is this where I post the trailer for the new one

anyone else watch the premiere? thoughts?
i liked it, though the main boyfriend's guilty rich/wokeness thing is a bit heavy-handed and not sure about spoiling GG's identity so early on gives the premise a bit of an expiry date
― self-clowning oven (Murgatroid), Thursday, 8 July 2021 15:11 (four years ago)
I liked it too but criticisms that it's devoid of humor are OTM; the teachers are kind of funny but the kids are not, so there is a big Blair/Dorota shaped hole in the middle of the show.
