Par for the course with you, I'm sure.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 12:28 (eighteen years ago)

xpost me too. :-( I mean, she only spelled one word wrong, but I also noticed how "internetty" she wrote. VEry strange. But then I realize it's my fault, I'm a bit oldfashioned when it comes to spelling and text messaging, I PH34R.

Ken, what's the app DO?

nathalie, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 12:29 (eighteen years ago)

My mother joined Facebook, friended me, and now writes stuff on my wall constantly. Surely this is the kind of awkward social situation one is supposed to transcend post high school.

Tim F, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 14:55 (eighteen years ago)

that is just wrong. facebook should be logan's runned.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

REPETITION!

Mark G, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 15:01 (eighteen years ago)

my sister just joined. i feel a bit guilty about only letting her see my limited profile but...will she know that's all she's seeing? i think not. so fuck it. she doesn't know a single one of my friends so it really doesn't matter...

CharlieNo4, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 15:01 (eighteen years ago)

Ha my little sister refuses to friend any family members or mutual friends so we can't spy on her!

kv_nol, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 15:05 (eighteen years ago)

i knew it was weak from the moment i pressed 'submit', enrique, but that's LOW

My mom labeled knowing about myspace a waste of time. So I doubt she'll be getting on FB.
Thank GOD.

nathalie, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 15:30 (eighteen years ago)

my sister is 40 with three kids (two teens). i'm more worried about the teens finding me tbh...

CharlieNo4, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

Is that on the wrong thread, L?

Mark G, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

"I like it because it's something for everyone (until everyone is on it)." Lather, rinse, repeat.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

CIO: english newspaper columnists in their late 20's or older being all "i just joined facebook, here are some of the things i can do, the old social order is dead, lol poking"

Just got offed, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

The experience is initially unnerving, but once you get the hang of it, you start feeling like you’re part of some great undulating, pulsing virtual experiment—like that scene in Wim Wenders’s Wings of Desire when Cassiel and Damiel wander Berlin hearing the innermost thoughts of everyone around them, except funnier and less pretentious.

I wish that sentence was funnier ans less pretentious.

kenan, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

Meanwhile Apparently last month Bebo overtook Google as the most-viewed website in the UK

Matt DC, Wednesday, 19 September 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

There was an amusing Talk of the Town piece in the New Yorker last week about a freshman-orientation workshop at NYU that teaches students who conduct most of their social interactions on Facebook how to interact with people IRL.

That article in The Atlantic is pretty good, but contrary to the author, I think all the new gadgets that have started cluttering up people’s pages are a harbinger of impending doom. I bet it’s only a matter of time before people start adding music and irritating GIFs to their pages, to say nothing of auto-playing video clips and epilepsy-inducing colour-schemes.

I went away for five days and got about twenty app requests argh. When will people learn not to press "select all"?

Roz, Thursday, 27 September 2007 17:23 (eighteen years ago)

My mother is now aware of Facebook as I had forwarded pics my cousin posted on her profile.

Mom: "Oh, yes, I read a piece aboutr that in the NYT, they said it was a potential threat for pornography and luring teenagers into it." (Sth like that.)

Me: "?"

stevienixed, Thursday, 27 September 2007 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

I thought that too but then my neices and cousins were saying to me "Why aren't you on facebook so we can laugh at you being so old" (actually they only said the first bit to my face).
So now I am.

And my only friends are my nieces. And two other people.

Ned Trifle II, Friday, 28 September 2007 08:42 (eighteen years ago)

stevenixed's mum OTM.

ken c, Friday, 28 September 2007 12:39 (eighteen years ago)

Fuck an X Me application. "Someone decided to hug you" "you decided to hug someone". No, I didn't, stop spamming me.

Colonel Poo, Monday, 1 October 2007 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Monday, 1 October 2007 13:44 (eighteen years ago)

ken c, Monday, 1 October 2007 15:24 (eighteen years ago)

Oh noes it is broken :( Who is this mysterious individual who has poked me? Sigh.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 07:59 (eighteen years ago)

I'm thinking of getting off Facebook, already. Too many people I don't really like but have to pretend to care about! Cousins! Exes! Friends of friends!

Too much like real life. Do not want.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 08:37 (eighteen years ago)

Is anyone else's login saying its down for maintenance "for a few hours" wtf?

Trayce, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 09:04 (eighteen years ago)

Mark G, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 09:07 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah it just happened then. And then if you retry it says yr password is wrong. But it isnt.

Trayce, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 09:09 (eighteen years ago)

ken c, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 09:12 (eighteen years ago)

I just get thrown back to the login page time after time. :(

Raw Patrick, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 09:12 (eighteen years ago)

No I really was doing it right... its working now. Weird.

Trayce, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 09:30 (eighteen years ago)

-- kv_nol, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 08:59 (Tuesday, 2 October 2007 08:59)

Accentmonkey, was there one person you added and all this stuff followed on? I had that and am thinking of quietly telling them irl that I think they're great but I'm letting them go because I'm sick of people going: "Oh here's x, oh and there's y. Let's add them both."

kv_nol, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 09:35 (eighteen years ago)

I added my first bf who i havent seenin 15 years and now I kind of regret it... he's just so different to me now it is weirding me the fuck out.

Trayce, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 09:45 (eighteen years ago)

Then un-add him. No need for drama, he won't be hurt. You can also put him on limited profile and reduce the amount of news you get from him.

kv_nol, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 09:50 (eighteen years ago)

Eh, its no big deal. Ive added a heap of ppl I never engage with. Its not like I do anything deadly important on FB :)

Trayce, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 10:07 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, how do I limit the news I get from people? Cos I'm really fuckin sick of getting status updates from school menks every ten seconds going "IS WISHING THAT CERTAIN PPL WOULD JUST BE HONEST GOD MEN ARE SO STUPID"

That mong guy that's shit, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 10:10 (eighteen years ago)

the top right of your news feed there is 'preferences' - click on that and there are a bunch of dials you can adjust. just turn them all down and you'll get no news at all.
