and now that most of the people who elected him were independents and republicans he's going to feel a lot more beholden to them and less so to the Dems

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Thursday, 9 November 2006 07:42 (nineteen years ago)

This shit's getting a bit long, Let's talk about your shiny new congress over here:

What's a Democratic Congress going to do?

Ed (dali), Thursday, 9 November 2006 08:06 (nineteen years ago)

y'know, i'd heard he was running, but i didn't know he won. John Hall won a House seat from NY.

Oh yeah, and if you didn't know, here's what got him mad enough to run:

In the final days of the 2004 presidential campaign, Hall saw a clip from a Bush rally in Columbus, Ohio, aired on Lou Dobbs' CNN show and was appalled to hear "Still the One" playing in the background at the event. His permission to use it had not been sought or given. After wide press coverage via the AP, the Bush campaign promised to cease and desist. So John Hall can make one claim most already-elected Democrats cannot: He got President Bush to back down at least once.

Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent said she received reports from both Jennings and Buchanan supporters that the machine did not register their vote for the 13th race.

She encouraged voters who had problems to report them to her office, but didn’t know what they would be able to do.

“After the fact, there’s not a lot we can do about it.”

Edward III (edward iii), Thursday, 9 November 2006 14:16 (nineteen years ago)

You know, the Bush "assessment" conference really wasn't all that funny on TV. Musta been drunk w/ schadenfreude.

I also saw Rahm Emanuel (for the first time) on C-SPAN explaining specific districts' polling/ad team strategy for about 90 seconds, and my reaction (aside from boredom) was that gabbneb must be watching and climaxing.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 9 November 2006 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

'DO you think I'm nuts?' 'Have I lost my sensibilities..., gregory?'

not funny?

jhoshea megafauna (scoopsnoodle), Thursday, 9 November 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

I made a download out of the CSpan stream because I hate streams: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VAX23MZ0

so G.Allen is pondering a non-challenge so, under the cover of 'magnanimity,' he can run again at the earliest convenience with minimal soreloserness?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 9 November 2006 14:53 (nineteen years ago)

Six years = earliest convenience?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 November 2006 14:59 (nineteen years ago)

Does Rahm Emmnuel's coronation mean that he (and not Karl Rove) is the new Mark Hanna?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Thursday, 9 November 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

allen is pondering a non-challenge cause he knows there's no way he's making up 7k votes.

jhoshea megafauna (scoopsnoodle), Thursday, 9 November 2006 15:11 (nineteen years ago)

Plus, people are starting to bring up Allen telling Gore to get over it in 2000.

Beth S. (Ex Leon), Thursday, 9 November 2006 15:26 (nineteen years ago)

morbius, can you try to sound more cynical and sour about everything, please? thanks. I mean, if you hate this shit so much and nobody's any damn good.. Well, life is short, so why don't you spend your life focusing on shit that doesn't make you feel bitter, bored, and cynical?

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 9 November 2006 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

^^^^ should be in the FAQ

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 9 November 2006 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry to shit on your Dems Are the Greatest cake, darla. You can get mouthbreathers like Chris Matthews telling you how great our system and the people in it are all over dumbass cable.

well, when is Warner's seat open? dude could retire. But Nixon waited 8 years after '60, six after losing the guv race. True, he never said Macaca.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 9 November 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

I like how you completely avoided her point there, that was good.

Django Blowhardt (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 9 November 2006 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

True, he never said Macaca.

He recorded himself in the Oval Office uttering far worse racial slurs, though.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 9 November 2006 15:55 (nineteen years ago)

Morbs, it's your right to live in a black and white world where you're always right because everything sucks, but I'm just sayin', it's your attitude that makes it so.

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 9 November 2006 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

It's that there REALLY are about 5% of the legislators on the Hill who are worth more than a warm bucket of piss that makes it so.

But Mike, we only got the full brunt of Dick's slurring long after he coptered off into Elder Statesman rehab.

jhoshea megafauna (scoopsnoodle), Thursday, 9 November 2006 16:20 (nineteen years ago)

Morbius, you are being ridiculous. Not only do you know very little about what you're talking about, your answer is to unilaterally declare they're nearly all worthless 'cause you don't want to do the hard work of, you know, THINKING about things and why they are the way they are.

You are just like George W Bush.

It is pretty great.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 9 November 2006 16:53 (nineteen years ago)

I'm game, dar1a, help me -- why are things the way they are, and how did you figure it out?

I figured it out by seeing the political landscape I knew changed forever in November '80. And it's not coming back.
