shake me was vastly superior to nobody's fool, for whatever that's worth now.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:24 (twenty years ago)

I was always fascinated by that guy's (singer of Cinderella) extremely floppy lips.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:25 (twenty years ago)

I had a Cinderella record and remember being a fan (I was BIG into false metal in junior high - other favorites included Def Leppard (but only Pyromania and before), Dokken, Helix, Accept... I had a subscription to Circus Magazine for shit's sake) but for the life of me I can't remember what they sound like.

He's really pouty. There's another pic of him on the site where I found those where he's pudged up and kind of looks like the larger of the Wilson sisters.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:26 (twenty years ago)

tom something or other. shake me was on a mixed tape that used to get played during the bus ride of every pop warner away game we played that year.

xpost: I had a subscription to Circus Magazine for shit's sake ME TOO!!!

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:27 (twenty years ago)

He looks sort of like Ian McCulloch though, now that I think about it.

Dan, if you're around: What was that book about Antarctica or the Arctic that you linked to a couple of weeks ago?

Big Dead Place

Also, I have found that http:www.bigdeadplace.com is an interesting site dedicated to Antarctic workers and their stories.

My first concert was Red Hot Chili Peppers.

xpost what is this, oldster day? :)

You just can't imagine how happy this thread is making me right now.

Man Man (kenan), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:31 (twenty years ago)

Er, http://www.bigdeadplace.com

Stupid computers.

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:31 (twenty years ago)

Because you love Cinderella so much?

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:32 (twenty years ago)

Dan, if you're around: What was that book about Antarctica or the Arctic that you linked to a couple of weeks ago?

Big Dead Place

See, I didn't remember the book or what it was about, but that cover is killer. Thanks for reminding me. Any book with a cover that cool cannot be bad.

Man Man (kenan), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:33 (twenty years ago)

And look, I'm the last person to give someone shit for gaining weight so I'm not saying that Ann Wilson isn't just AOK as she is right now, but DAMN Ann and Nancy Wilson were smoking hot back in the day. Also, I fucking love Heart.

THE MOST 80'S THING EBER JUST TRUST ME

Man Man (kenan), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:39 (twenty years ago)

Kevin, the next time we hang out, let's sit in a corner and get drunk and talk about Circus magazine. Because that shit really made my sixth and seventh grade years.

Also, I realize that I kind of have the same haircut now as I did back then. Except back then I wanted to look like Joe Elliot, and now I just let the hair cut lady do whatever she wants.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:39 (twenty years ago)

Where's Sarah? I want to talk about dishwashers w/ her.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:42 (twenty years ago)

my hair was a lot straighter back then, maybe a little wavey but not curly like it is now. i wish to god i still had some back issues. what was the name of that dude who had the column on the back page? it was like a metal gossip column where he'd drop clues as to whom he was talking shit about but never come out and name them. that was my favorite part of the mag.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Talk about hair metal and Pepsi and Robert Palmer with us.

I really want to listen to Heart now and there is none on my mp3 player. This will be remedied as soon as I get home.

The part that I remember the most was the song lyrics. I also liked the letters to the editor. I wrote a very impassioned defense of Def Leppard once, because someone called them basically a boy band. Now, granted, Hysteria and beyond SUCKED and I'm not claiming that Pyromania or High and Dry were like true metal or anything, but they are both solid rock albums and no cheesier than anything else that came out in that era. I mean, Dokken? Seriously.

Anyway, the irony of an 11 year old girl writing to defend Def Leppard from accusations of being teeny bopper music was totally lost on me.

I wish you had back issues, too. I wish I did. I actually still might, but I have no idea where they would be. Probably dry rotted in some ditant relative's attic somewhere in southern Delaware.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:46 (twenty years ago)

i'd ask my dad to check the closet of my old bedroom but it's been a decade and a half since i've lived there and god knows what else would be in there if anything has remained.

"no, no circus, but i did find some vintage '70s swedish stroke mags and a vast array of bongs..."

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:51 (twenty years ago)

haha "stroke mags"

Makes them sound downright sensual.

Man Man (kenan), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:55 (twenty years ago)

I liked the "vast array of bongs." Not just a pipe or an old pack of yellowed rolling papers, but a vast array of bongs.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 19:56 (twenty years ago)

Dude was SERIOUS.

Man Man (kenan), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:00 (twenty years ago)

i had one that i kept in my car because you could use it with one hand. it had a pistol grip and the car was a hole under the in the grip under the index finger. stick out your finger, uncover the hole. no need to use two hand to lift the bowl out of the insert. that was my favorite. i think we left that at a cemetary.

(uh, that's obviously about the bongs, not the mags.)

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:00 (twenty years ago)

pistol grip and the car was a hole

and the carb, that should read and the carb was hole...

otto midnight (otto midnight), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:01 (twenty years ago)

Talk to me, Jesse.

I heart Heart, especially the f-ed up bass line from Little Queenie.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:02 (twenty years ago)

I am not talking about bongs on the internet. Even though I kind of want to.

I ran over to the Apple store with my laptop when we finished up our "work" lunch (I had 3 beers.) They booted it with an external HD, ran Disk Utility, and everything seems to be working okay. I was really bracing for a $500 day there for a little while...

Holy makkara, Toivo! (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:04 (twenty years ago)

thinking about pot makes me really antsy and nervous.

I have nothing to say about Heart.

I enjoyed Robert Palmer in the 80's. I also enjoyed Madonna's True Blue. And Cyndi Lauper. And Def Leppard and that one slow White Lion song. And Scorpions.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:05 (twenty years ago)

I love the artwork on that album too. Apparently, it's Little Queen, not Queenie.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:06 (twenty years ago)

i totally have a craving for a liverwurst sandwich but my digestive tract somehow has the ability to convert liverwurst to zyklon b.

Man Man (kenan), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:12 (twenty years ago)

Gross.

I keep asking Nick to make me dinner earlier and earlier. Lunch will soon be the new dinner.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:12 (twenty years ago)

xpost Good to know that does not work.

Man Man (kenan), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:13 (twenty years ago)

I keep asking Nick to make me dinner earlier and earlier. Lunch will soon be the new dinner.

Nick makes you dinner? Like, every day? FOR GOD SAKES WOMAN MARRY HIM NOW.

Man Man (kenan), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:15 (twenty years ago)

Dear Chicago:

I am ready for a trip to Ikea. When will this happen? Jenny mentioned wanting to go, but I think this was pre-somefinancialcrisis.

LET'S GO!

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:17 (twenty years ago)

Sarah -- Seriously, though, is there a date set? Or is that dependent on venue? Or... really, what's the story? Please have an awesome wedding, ok?

Man Man (kenan), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:22 (twenty years ago)

I have Dreamboat Annie and Dog and Butterfly on vinyl.

My favorite bong I ever had was a blue ceramic one with a handle like a coffee mug and a hole so you would hold the handle and put your thumb on the carb. I liked that design better because you were less likely to get a mouthful of bongwater.

Once, somebody broke into my friends' house and stole all their paraphenalia. And that's it. I mean, every lighter, rolling paper, pipe, bong, resin coated paperclip, ashtray (and there were a considerable number of these items in the house) and nothing else. Fucking weird.

xpost - Liverwurst? How about a nice BLT instead?

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:22 (twenty years ago)

I will go to Ikea at some point this summer. I just know it will happen.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:24 (twenty years ago)

Summer? SUMMER? That's like forever away.

Whispy Fandango Triphop (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:25 (twenty years ago)

Dude, it's like three weeks away.

Man Man (kenan), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:26 (twenty years ago)

Kenan, I agree it's really sweet, but also he enjoys cooking. Also, we are visiting a venue this evening. Also, there is no date yet, but we're thinking Spring '07 so the fams can make plans. Also, there are a million different fun options for getting married.

I want to go to Ikea this summer too.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:30 (twenty years ago)

ta ta

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:31 (twenty years ago)

(Hey! Stop looking at my ta tas!)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:32 (twenty years ago)

Don't worry, Sarah, Jenny's are far more distracting.

Man Man (kenan), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:34 (twenty years ago)

Kenan, no. Bad.

Safety First (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:37 (twenty years ago)

Also, there is no date yet, but we're thinking Spring '07

That's cool. You can coordinate your marriage with the completion of Trump Tower Chicago. I am excited about both.

Man Man (kenan), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:40 (twenty years ago)

High-larious. Jenny by the way your WDYLL photo, I forgot to say, is SHOCKINGLY cute. Dimples and pressed little smile and all.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 20:41 (twenty years ago)

Kenan, call me. Now.
