Rodney Dangerfield didn't start stand-up until he was like in his 40s!

fantastic mr. forks (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 29 November 2009 21:24 (sixteen years ago)

yeah comedy seems like a calling that doesn't reach everybody early in life, i'm just saying i've never looked at armisen and thought "that dude is over 40"

it's a crazy college where you come from (some dude), Sunday, 29 November 2009 21:35 (sixteen years ago)

finally watched the JGL episode, and dude sang in EVERY sketch he appeared in before Weekend Update (monologue, password, jack johnson show, t-giving dinner, what's up with that?). was he just singing at the offices all week and they decided to use it?

da croupier, Monday, 30 November 2009 12:39 (sixteen years ago)

What happened in the JGL monologue? Hulu cut it out.

mooncup journey to vaja (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 30 November 2009 13:54 (sixteen years ago)

I assume he sang some copyrighted song?

mooncup journey to vaja (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 30 November 2009 13:56 (sixteen years ago)

He sang "Make 'Em Laugh," from Singin' in the Rain. But yeah, I think NBC strips out for Hulu any musical performance for which they'd have to pay additional royalties.

saw his interview on Fallon earlier in the week and he kept talking about how he'd gotten an idea for his monologue as soon as he was booked for the show and had been practicing it for like 2 months before even meeting with the writers.

No. He REStarted after years as, I think, a fridge salesman?

Feingold/Kaptur 2012 (Dr Morbius), Monday, 30 November 2009 14:25 (sixteen years ago)

loluminum siding:

As a teenager, he got his start writing jokes for standup comics; he became one himself at 19 under the name Jack Roy. He struggled financially for nine years, at one point performing as a singing waiter (he was fired), and also working as a performing acrobatic diver before giving up show business to take a job selling aluminum siding to support his wife and family. He later said that he was so little known then that, "At the time I quit, I was the only one who knew I quit!"

no wonder they were like "holy shit, this guy really likes to sing...let's just have him do that in everything."

da croupier, Monday, 30 November 2009 15:30 (sixteen years ago)

morbidly looking forward to blake lively, maybe they'll have her show cleavage in everything

da croupier, Monday, 30 November 2009 15:31 (sixteen years ago)

Nhex, Sunday, 6 December 2009 22:11 (sixteen years ago)

i dunno i kinda thought 1973 colonel sanders NASA job applicant potato chip regurgitator thief collecting his hemorrhoid donut on the way out the door skit was pretty fantastic and unless i'm overlooking something pretty obvious maybe even the best job interview oriented SNL skit since the chris parnell/christopher walken "we don't hire dirty centaurs" classic

Blake Lively wasn't nearly as bad as I expected her to be. I was expecting a January Jones-style catastrophe.

I had no idea muse was so huge. They're playing at u2 sized venues? Is this what ppl like these days?

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Sunday, 20 December 2009 05:50 (sixteen years ago)

i have never been able to figure out who likes them. i think its the britishes.

bnw, Sunday, 20 December 2009 05:52 (sixteen years ago)

haha ive sent this IM to my friend, muse-fan abt 5 times, latest just recently:

xxxxxxx: i still find it hard to believe anyone likes muse

johnny crunch, Sunday, 20 December 2009 05:54 (sixteen years ago)

they seem undecided on whether they're u2 or radiohead

shartin jort (am0n), Sunday, 20 December 2009 05:56 (sixteen years ago)

They're playing at the united center in Chicago - I saw the big fancy ad recently- and I just had no idea they were that sort of band. I worked in a record store abt 10 yrs ago and I remember thinking they were blah, sort of like coldplay. And now they're huge? Like coldplay? I didn't see that coming.

figgy pudding (La Lechera), Sunday, 20 December 2009 06:01 (sixteen years ago)

they did a lightning bolt cover once lol

tbf they only play U2 size venues in America when they're opening for U2

some dude, Sunday, 20 December 2009 11:43 (sixteen years ago)

that was the 3rd "What Up With That" sketch in the space of 7 episodes. between that and the "A Very Gilly Christmas" primetime special it feels like we're entering a new Mary Katherine Gallagher era of the same sketches airing over and over with barely any variation from week to week.

some dude, Sunday, 20 December 2009 11:53 (sixteen years ago)

Someone at SNL is kind of websmart, and told Lorne that the kids are loving "What Up With That." Naturally, Lorne thinks he's struck oil and will mine every last drop.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 20 December 2009 12:17 (sixteen years ago)

the first time it felt giddy and unexpected and fun, but it's already starting to feel a little perfunctory as of last night. can't wait for the 80-minute movie version.
