I just saw a scanned bit about the zooey from GQ or something and it said she is named after JD salinger's heroine? urghzzzzzz.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Not her fault.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

GQ's fault, I hope.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

well this is what happens when hippies grow up to have kids, i suppose.

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

This just burst into my head: Zooey Deschanel would be the result of John Hinckley and Jodie Foster had a baby.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Moderators: Delete me. I should not take cold medicine and then type on ILX. Sorry.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Both Maggie AND Zooey's dads are directors. (Well, Zooey's is mostly a cinematographer, but yes, he did direct an episode of Twin Peaks. So did Diane Keaton, for that matter. Okay, but I don't, like, know them all, cuz that's weird.) But yeah, Maggie's dad, Stephen Gyllenhaal directed Waterland.

Nick, not only did I think Zooey was fantastic in All the Real Girls, I actually loved the movie, too. But I totally crushed out on her something fierce.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought the movie was ok. There wasn't really a plot beyond boy-meets-girl, etc., and some of the characters (mainly the guy's friends) were caricatures, which was in odd contrast to the strong, complex acting from both of the leads. But yeah, Deschanel and the leading guy were both pretty excellent, and it even made me feel kind of sappy, which says a lot.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

But Nick, the lead guy's friend who kept hitting on her was SO great!

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

He was funny, but his character was obviously a joke and 2-dimensional, which I just thought was weird when paired with the realistic leads.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Shit, I saw it in the theater twice, and I cried both times. Sarah -- you mean Bust-Ass?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

The movie has kind of an unpolished feel to it, and sometimes that's to its detriment -- I don't think the adult characters are fully fleshed out, for instance -- but that's also what makes it so naturalistic and real. There are lots of moments and gestures that feel spontaneous and true.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I posted this on another thread, a long time ago, but I LOVE the picture: Zooey Deschanel and her mom, Mary Jo (of Twin Peaks fame):

Jess otm re: Zooey Deschanel.

Key: O = off. T = the. M = mark.

David. (Cozen), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Or, I wish I lived in Olympia? But not.

David. (Cozen), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, in real life, you mean? Yeah, sure, I agree -- jeez, you shoulda seen 'em at the Mum show last month. But I also like to have celebrities to moon over and read up on. And the ones that seem really kool-with-a-capital-K, even if that's as superficial as how they look, aren't so, so common. Dude, Zooey Deschanel plays the ukelele!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

are you guys all gonna buy the playboy indie issue too ?

trife (simon_tr), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, and Nick, I disagree about Bust-Ass being a total joke. In a weird way, I think he comes off as sweet, even if he's completely bumbling and idiotic at times. After all the tumult with Paul, you can see why she just wants to hang out and make macaroni and cheese with him.

i only called cease-fire so myself and jess would cease to be the subjects of this thread. alas.

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't understand this thread anymore.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

it's about Maggie Gyllenhaal!

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, right.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

we have to work harder next time

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think if Maggie G sees this thread she's going to want to make out with any of us.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

No offense or anything, but I don't think she'd make out with you with or without the thread. Nothing personal.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

oh but ally surely she will, all the boys said they liked her personality, not just her looks!! that means theyre sensitive and deep

trife (simon_tr), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

girls from 2 year art schools are easier to make out with than girls who go to fancy ladies colleges.

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Not true, I've made out with half of NYC ILX. Oh wait, I don't go to a ladies college, that means I'm a total slut. Like hockey girls.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

If Maggie G. knew what I was packin' she wouldn't stop at making out.

nickalicious can't believe he clicked submit holy shit (nickalicious), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

tom delete ilx please

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 20:08 (twenty-two years ago)

More like humanity but anyway.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Trife, we may be corny indie fuxx, but we're not actually delusional enough to think that any of these rich daughters of Hollywood would cast an eye our way. Does that mean we should stop talking about them, though? No, because it's fun.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I disagree with Ally about the no-making-out-chance thing.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess you have a higher chance with her than with Nicole Kidman.
