Going to see the Kings v. Canucks tonight!

derrrick, Thursday, 26 November 2009 10:45 (sixteen years ago)

oooo the kings are dangerous. hopefully w/o smyth infront of louie all night the canucks can get some opportunities. + daniel is back. + kopitar is goaless in his last 7 games, and the kings are coming from a game last night to a pretty well rested canucks. i'm going with a canuck win on this one.

the thrill of it all (omgomg), Thursday, 26 November 2009 18:31 (sixteen years ago)

Yes, very excited to see the entire Slovenian Olympic team tonight. We won our last two vs Avalanche convincingly (8-2 and 5-2) so here's hoping our luck against surprise-division-leaders hold steady.

it is rumored that ovechkin has been suspended for two games -- probably not a big deal since he's day-to-day anyway

mookieproof, Tuesday, 1 December 2009 21:58 (sixteen years ago)

The slash by the guy on his own goalie is very strange. It didnt look like a major hit. Strangest thing is that after he made contact, he took another swipe at the goal.

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 1 December 2009 22:15 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, looked like he was hitting at the post in anger? Serious WTF.

everyone stop (dan m), Tuesday, 1 December 2009 22:24 (sixteen years ago)

Then they showed him leaving the ice. Was he kicked out of the game? Weird deal all around.

I actually like Ovechkin's style of play. The guy is super-entertaining. I dont know how long he will last playing that way though.

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 2 December 2009 14:51 (sixteen years ago)

well i don't want to harp on ovechkin when i want to see physical play but i can't defend him here. he should stop doing this. it's too bad players have to put up with his reckless dirty hits without being able to do anything about it. if he doesn't respect the other players on the ice, and clearly he doesn't (just read that interview), he should at least fear them. get rid of the fucking instigator rule already. and why does laraque get 5 games and ovechkin get 2?

Brodeur ties Sawchuck for career shutouts (Brodeur's career has been insanely wonderful, playing during the trap years or otherwise)

mookieproof, Tuesday, 22 December 2009 15:53 (sixteen years ago)

Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Tuesday, 22 December 2009 16:21 (sixteen years ago)

xxp I think you already know the answer to that, Bill! He's no Scott Stevens, I'll give him that.

everyone stop (dan m), Tuesday, 22 December 2009 16:23 (sixteen years ago)

haha i'm chilled. i actually like brodeur

mookieproof, Tuesday, 22 December 2009 17:03 (sixteen years ago)

didn't they decrease the goalie pad size b/c of him? i still prefer the mentally unstable p. roy.

bnw, Tuesday, 22 December 2009 17:15 (sixteen years ago)

^^^Was that Belfour, maybe? He always used to wear hueg jerseys too iirc.

everyone stop (dan m), Tuesday, 22 December 2009 17:16 (sixteen years ago)

its been a long time since i was obsessive about the devils but wtg martin

max, Tuesday, 22 December 2009 17:18 (sixteen years ago)

No, they didnt change that (the pad size) rule for Brodeur, they limited the size of the area behind the net in which the goalie could handle the puck. They used to have free reign (rein?). He was like a third defenseman until they changed that rule.

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 22 December 2009 17:21 (sixteen years ago)

they altered the jersey size because of p roy, they altered the pad size because of JS Giguere.

Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Tuesday, 22 December 2009 17:22 (sixteen years ago)

pad side also bcuz of lolgarth snow

Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Tuesday, 22 December 2009 17:22 (sixteen years ago)

garth snow used to be a poster boy for enormous pads iirc, but i don't think he was good enough to really name the rule after him.

i think goalies should be allowed to play the puck wherever they want -- but forecheckers should be allowed to hit them outside the crease.

mookieproof, Tuesday, 22 December 2009 17:25 (sixteen years ago)

Absolutely agree.

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 22 December 2009 17:25 (sixteen years ago)

agree in principle, but the fights that this would lead to, oh the fights

everyone stop (dan m), Tuesday, 22 December 2009 17:26 (sixteen years ago)

I believe they were allowed to hit them outside the crease if they were handling it before they put the trapezoid in.

it's all I can get with regularity and they're not my team, but damn the Hawks can be fun to watch

think i've seen them like once this year :/

mookieproof, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 01:50 (sixteen years ago)

they're likely to have salary cap problems, but I don't imagine it being too big a hassle since they should be able to get $ for several players who might have to go

everyone stop (dan m), Wednesday, 6 January 2010 15:46 (sixteen years ago)

not NHL related, but I finally found a hockey league to play in and I start next month

looking forward to getting to know my hamstrings again

i live in canucks town. any thoughts on burrows vs. auger?

the thrill of it all (omgomg), Wednesday, 13 January 2010 21:51 (sixteen years ago)

auger should be susupended imo, as bad as refs have it they should always take the high road

i am under no illusions that my opinions are even that interesting to me (dan m), Wednesday, 13 January 2010 21:56 (sixteen years ago)

as bob mckenzie said, obviously referees are biased somewhat -- e.g. sean avery gets called for shit that other players wouldn't -- and there has long been a settling of accounts between officials and players just like there is among players themselves. but don't tell the player you're gonna get him, and don't make it so blatantly and ridiculously obvious. at the very least they should suspend auger for being a dumbass.

someone pointed out that he's done a lot fewer playoff games than guys with less tenure, so it's not like even the league thinks he's a great ref . . .
