RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 10:30 (nineteen years ago)

yeah yeah yeah everyone otm - but can i watch it or not?

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 10:31 (nineteen years ago)

jon was never this good.

i dunno, 1 image per post is a pretty rubbish way of trying to stop other people posting. i have images turned off so it's not gonna annoy me unless it's css or huge reams of text pasted over and over.

thread should probably be locked anyway.

2 american 4 u (blueski), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 10:31 (nineteen years ago)

roffle why am i even deigning to argue with someone whose end address is "btinternet?"

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 10:32 (nineteen years ago)

-- (688), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 11:26 (nineteen years ago)

gettin back to the real issues at last

2 american 4 u (blueski), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 11:27 (nineteen years ago)

heheheh, i expected to come back to this thread and find CORUSCATING DEMOLISHING ARGUMENTS reducing me to a BLUBBERING WRECK. instead i learn a fun new word and remember that i really do need to change my fucking ISP, yo. thanks, hstencil.

ever feel we've reached the end of the line? ah, good. still, it's made a pleasant change from arguing about "thing" versus "think".

does anyone want to hear about my friend's teenage daughter, her worrying outbursts of racism (including - and this is in a fucking leafy suburb of glasgow - use of the n-word) and my friend's theories about multicultural schooling and the gangs therein?

no, thought not.

grimly fagtron (grimlord), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 15:15 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeah, the KKK got a permit for a rally in my colllege town, to be held on the steps of some building. The school sent a group of people who arrived just as the permitted time ran out and got on hands & knees to scrub the steps with soap & water. I can't decide whether that's awesome or horrible in terms of a public gesture, but it's something!

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 15:27 (nineteen years ago)

awesome

wordy rappinghood (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 18:09 (nineteen years ago)

It is a bit "LOOK AT US SHAME YOU WITH OUR PEACEFUL PASSIVE RESISTANCE", tho. On par with people who're always pointing out that they spend their spare time reading stories to homeless children.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 18:17 (nineteen years ago)

It is a bit "LOOK AT US SHAME YOU WITH OUR PEACEFUL PASSIVE RESISTANCE", tho.

What, exactly, is wrong with that?

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 18:27 (nineteen years ago)

Usually when the klan comes to rally yr supposed to avoid making a scene so they don't get the media coverage.

deej.. (deej..), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 18:32 (nineteen years ago)

I dont know what I think of this approach, one of my friends didn't like it much and was actually arrested for shoving a cop at a counterprotest to a klan rally. Everyone in h.s. called him 'cop killer'

deej.. (deej..), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, maybe I'm just sensitive about my college education coming with a heaping side of self-righteousness.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 18:35 (nineteen years ago)

old dude, science dropper: yeah i started looking up this stuff in wikipedia when i think of it.

Where's the money that was just here? I saw the money just a second ago and now it's gone, where did it go? Oh, there it is! It's underneath Old Dude Science Dropper because he is ON THE MOTHERFUCKING MONEY.

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 18:41 (nineteen years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

I wonder if this episode will have any lasting repercussions in terms of how comedians, esp. white comedians, handle race. Larry David's exchanges with Wanda Sykes on Curb Your Enthusiasm, for example, will seem to have that much more baggage (and close to home) from now on.

Collardio Gelatinous (collardio), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

Holy shit

Seconded.

Larry David's exchanges with Wanda Sykes on Curb Your Enthusiasm, for example, will seem to have that much more baggage

I don't think so, not at all.

sinshine (kenan), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 19:34 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, i've been waiting to see if any priors start popping up. not the best evidence, but that hardly helps.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 19:40 (nineteen years ago)

priors or Pryors?

nickn (nickn), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 19:45 (nineteen years ago)

not the best evidence, but that hardly helps.

The evidence is all in already. But that clip is awfully unfunny and in brutally bad taste.

sinshine (kenan), Wednesday, 22 November 2006 19:53 (nineteen years ago)

i've been trying to post some of the gems from this thread on that youtube clip but i can't seem to get the comments workin

This CNN clip --

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-6cLovllX4

-- makes me laugh. "Allegedly spewed the N-word" -- "allegedly"! -- it's like, dude, I understand that the legal team makes you say that, but c'mon! "The Challenger allegedly blew up today..."

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 23 November 2006 02:09 (nineteen years ago)

Actually I thought the word "allegedly" didn't even get you out of libel. IIRC the AP styleguide sez so?

Abbott (Abbott), Thursday, 23 November 2006 02:21 (nineteen years ago)

Dude not even a CANDLE to the weakest Zidane gif.

Gold in the YouTube comments:

50 years ago, Kramer would be hanging upside down with a fork in his ass for this.

Hoosteen (Hoosteen), Thursday, 23 November 2006 07:59 (nineteen years ago)

As I posted on nu-ILX the guys he ranted at have got a publicist and are talking about compensation decided by a retired (?) judge. Has this happened before?

Anyone watched Seinfeld since this happened?

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Thursday, 23 November 2006 10:01 (nineteen years ago)

yes, briefly

2 american 4 u (blueski), Thursday, 23 November 2006 10:51 (nineteen years ago)

I'm too exhausted to scroll back up through the picstorm, but did nobody else read the link hstencil posted to the story about the Baltimore frat that had the "ghetto"-themed Halloween party?

"They said a skeleton hanging from a noose was a reference to Pirates of the Carribean and not an allusion to lynching."

Tiki Theater Xymposium (Bent Over at the Arclight), Thursday, 23 November 2006 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

not that I think this is most interesting because of Michael Richards (who gives a fuck about michael richards?) rather than potentially everyman, but apparently he called Jesse and Al but not the dudes at the club

having heard the thing again, now I wonder if either part of my first take wasn't exactly backwards, so I'm not sure I believe anything about my case anymore, even if some of the other evidence suggests the dude is all-around borderline

(btw, can anyone think of another well-known dude known for yelling "Shut up!" like a crazy person?)

this is interesting

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 23 November 2006 17:59 (nineteen years ago)

Does anyone ever admit to being a rascist?

Our very own far right BNP are very much in the 'We're not rascists but...' camp.

Are the Aryan Nation, KKK, radio talk show loons, etc, the same or are they happy to say 'Yep, we're rascist as hell!'

Bidfurd (Bidfurd), Thursday, 23 November 2006 20:35 (nineteen years ago)

Patrice O'Neal was great on Hannity and Colmes about this. Someone post it.

Period period period (Period period period), Thursday, 23 November 2006 21:06 (nineteen years ago)

i think it's usually couched as "if racism means being proud of the white race then go ahead and call me racist.." even by wingnuts now
