unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 03:15 (twenty years ago)

Not until I paste its lurid contents here!

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 03:55 (twenty years ago)

Ew. I don't wanna go back to work.

gbx (skowly), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 13:56 (twenty years ago)

OMG Gossip!
Last day here FUNZONE. I saw the lovely Rachel Weisz accepting her award while I was standing around in a hotel lobby (we were trying to find a place with a smoking lounge) and that's all I saw of teh Oscars, except for to say holy crap what was Charlize "Faaahm in Aaahfrica" Theron wearing?
Can I just say that I don't understand the opposite sex AT ALL sometimes? Yeah.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:01 (twenty years ago)

Yeah.

Yeah.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:06 (twenty years ago)

We are mysterious.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:10 (twenty years ago)

It's the intent behind the actions I can't comprehend.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:18 (twenty years ago)

I'm confused. Did something happen?

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:21 (twenty years ago)

I don't know?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:25 (twenty years ago)

I sure don't know either.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:25 (twenty years ago)

(stewing) Amanda we need to make a movie called "Showdown at Wormtown".

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:28 (twenty years ago)

I'm trying this weird "blunt honesty" thing in my relationship. It's rough going but kind of refreshing.

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:30 (twenty years ago)

Random interjection: is there anything better than Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys?

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:31 (twenty years ago)

Especially the really old, scratchy recordings that reming me of Django and Stephan.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:31 (twenty years ago)

NO! There's nothing better. I love that lady that says "yeeees, yes" at random moments. I also like Spade Cooley a lot.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:32 (twenty years ago)

There needn't be anything better than them. They suffice.

Soon I leave this city and get on a train for two days. That would require getting out of bed, though. And packing.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:32 (twenty years ago)

Good morning, Chicago! I feel like a thousand bucks. I slept! All night! My house is full of food, and I have plenty of work to do! I see my therapist today! Everything is good.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:33 (twenty years ago)

I've never heard them, but the other drummer in Digd0wn plays in a Texas swing band here. They're pretty good (Kev1n Tubb and the Lon3ly St4rs).

Jordan (Jordan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:33 (twenty years ago)

Yay!

Who here has been to memphis. I think otto has? Amirite? I just wanted to get some tips on fun record stores/ thrift shops/ boutiques/ clubs/ whathaveyou for when I visit my mom this weekend.

Sarah Madkitten McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:35 (twenty years ago)

I get a kick out of how much my grandparents loved Bob Wills, how my parents listened to crap country music, and now I love Bob Wills. It skips a generation.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:36 (twenty years ago)

I've been to Memphis! Once when I was a kidlet and once for four days about eight years ago. I don't know where anything is, though.

Nutsy the Squirrel (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:37 (twenty years ago)

(amanda I g-mailed you) I love Django so much. I have a recording of a contemporary Romany artist playing "Dark Eyes" Django-style and it's one of my favorite things ever.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:38 (twenty years ago)

"Lips so sweet and tender / Like petals falling apart."

That's quite lovely.

I've been to Memphis! And San Antone. And I loved a woman... oh crap, now I have to listen to Lyle Lovett.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:38 (twenty years ago)

I have a recording of a contemporary Romany artist playing "Dark Eyes" Django-style and it's one of my favorite things ever.

Do you happen to have it in a format that you can gmail to me?

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:39 (twenty years ago)

No love for Spade Cooley - he had a great story. He killed his wife and then was in jail. He got out for one last show and died backstage right after the show. He coined the term "Western swing"! He ruled.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:40 (twenty years ago)

Killing your wife: not cool. But it's a good story.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:40 (twenty years ago)

If'n I ever leave Chicago, Memphis is high on my list of places to go next. New York is too much for me, and I like barbecue.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:42 (twenty years ago)

I just asked my friend who lives in TN if he knows of anything to do in Memphis. I was there once, but as a wee lad.

Kenan, that kind of sounds like the begninning of a blues song.

Steely Df'nM (OutDatWay), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:47 (twenty years ago)

No, there's nothing better than Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys.

There's a 4-CD western swing compilation called Doughboys, Playboys and Cowboys: The Golden Years of Western Swing. It's only 25 bucks for a zillion great songs. There's one called "Pussy Pussy Pussy" that has a group of lads singing in order to coax an old lady's cat out of a tree.

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:48 (twenty years ago)

I love that lady that says "yeeees, yes" at random moments.

I missed this the first time. That's not a lady, that's Bob Wills! Tommy Duncan is the main vocalist. Bob is the arranger and main songwriter, and is always around going "Play it boys!" and etc.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:49 (twenty years ago)

Are you sure there's not a lady? Wow. Well, I love that little "yeeees, yes."

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:50 (twenty years ago)

Not a lady. It's the Duke Ellington of country music!

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:51 (twenty years ago)

I like it when I say something totally random, and you all come along with me. That pleases me.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:52 (twenty years ago)

"Oh, that's pretty."

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:52 (twenty years ago)

Can we have a roll call? I'm new and I sometimes forget who's who.
Who is Shiny Maroon?

unclejessjess (unclejessjess), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:53 (twenty years ago)

Kenan.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:54 (twenty years ago)

I think I've now got to write a song called Paunchy Moon.

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:54 (twenty years ago)

Do you need a harmonica flourish in it?

Sweet Tater (kelstarry), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:56 (twenty years ago)

See, I have this cop that's maroon colored and sparkly, and when the sun shines through it, it's very shiny. And very maroon.

Also, a Bugs Bunny tribute.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:58 (twenty years ago)

CUP. I have this cup.

Shiny Maroon (kenan), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Ohmygod, kelsey. Nick and I saw an awesome harmonica at Br0adway Antiques Market. I mean, in case you're hankering for a really old harmonica in a huge box. :-D

Sarah Madkitten McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:58 (twenty years ago)

HI, Jesse. I'm SARAH.

Sarah Madkitten McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 7 March 2006 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Btw, I don't suppose anyone knows who this is? They randomly added my band on myspace and I'm just curious.
