iPhone apps S/D

so did anyone get rick rolled on their iphone?

I have the rick roll app, but it sucks because it only plays the first 15 seconds of the song, and not even the good part(s)!

I have DoodleBuddy for doodling.

OK, top apps so far;

Lent - 59p, take a photo, link it to a contact, and keep track of what DVDs etc you've lent to friends. Just got it but hopefully will prove indispensable as I always forget.

Decibel - 59p, measures volume, surprising how many times it's come in useful at work (library refurbs, IT projects, etc).

Diceshaker - free, choose how many dice of what denominations, shake to roll. No graphics of dice rolling but good sound, and useful when you've got cats who try and steal your dice.

Worms - £1.99 or something; awesome fun game.

Canabalt - £1.79, wicked game, most fun I've had with an iPhone game.

Bloom - £2.99, that Eno ambient generator thing. Pretty but pointless. Same for Trope, which is the same but with different image / sound sets.

Shopper - 59p I think, really useful customisable shopping list maker. Can share lists across iPhones.

Done - 59p, to-do list manager, really customisable, nice interface.

Allowance - free, keeps track of your O2 contract details, calls & texts left etc. Nicer display than the My O2 app.

Zing - obviously.

How much better is 3GS than 3G? Took advantage of a friend's £10/month discount but it only applied to 3G. Got a couple of weeks in which to change my mind and upgrade, if I want.

Big speed boost, better gfx card

compass lets you know which direction you're going in google maps, if you find that useful

Seriously! Especially since the calendar seems to manage it.

my gripes with IPHONE:

- very very very very easy to put it on silent by accident. frankly this is practically a showstopper.
- when watching videos (and IPHONE is on its side), the right side of volume rocker turns the sound DOWN, and the left side turns it UP
- recording videos results in a vertical video! uh, surely not??
- when wifi signal is too weak, i usually have to manually turn off wifi so that IPHONE will search for a 3g signal, otherwise it will just hang around thinking that it's connected to wifi when it's not. i have several times left my house and been halfway down the street and it still thinks i'm connected to my home network.

- no consolidated inbox for multiple email accounts.

- no SMS drafts

hard life eh

so are tesco going to be meaningfully making this thing cheaper so proles like me can get one, or do i have to get an hero?

TBH thomp the "accidentally hit the silent switch" has gotten me into hot water at work!! (they were similarly pitiless when i told them what must have happened)

But you feel it buzz if you accidentally switch it to silent, and so switch it straight back, surely?

i was gonna say — is this not a 'on vibrate' silent like the entire civilised world uses? or is this an actually silent with no warning at all setting? because that would be kind of annoying.

There is a little buzz when you put it on silent - which you of course notice straight away if you MEAN to switch it to silent. But the times when you have accidentally knocked it to silent also happen to be the times when there is confusing physical business happening in your pocket/bag/etc - i.e. shoving it quickly into an overcoat pocket where it knocks against something else as you answer the HOME phone which is ringing and holding a baby in the other hand.

If it worked like the Hold button on the iPod classic it would be fine.

well one solution is to never hold your baby

or answer your HOME phone

In many ways my life would be much more relaxing. And then, I fear, it would quickly become much more stressful.

afaik if you write something in a contacts SMS screen it stays there

the volume button thing makes no sense TH? if IPHONE is on it's side (volume rocker side down), then right = softer is just the rocker continuing to function precisely the way it did before you turned the phone

ftr if you get a case, the volume thing never happens; I didn't start having this problem until my old case fell apart and I decided I hated my new one

er I meant the ringer thing

yeah I have also never once had that happen BUT I also turn the ringer off like 90 percent of the time anyway

cutty when writing a txt sometimes you have to stop in the middle if something else comes up. yes, if the txt is for one of your previous txting companions you can go find the last txt they sent you, and enter it there, and then it's saved for later, but i often txt to multiple ppl so that doesn't work.

gbx haha i know.. but it's pretty lame given that sideways is THE way to watch video or play a game (unless you're watching one of your own vertical videos!!) .. the only way around it would be to make the screen rotate the OTHER way for video. not sure why it doesn't, TBH.

the thing about the case makes sense - the silent switch ends up being basically flush with the case? maybe i'll finally get one.

if your texts are so long that its a pain for you to rewrite them you should reconsider how you use texting imo

Er, it does. It rotates whichever way you turn it, you can have the volume rocker on the top or the bottom, it's up to you.

I think I would be way more confused/frustrated if the buttons suddenly REVERSED functions when I rotated the phone tho!

Well, the youtube app is broke in many ways. Games vary, I've found most will let you rotate either way.
