The Kristen-Wiig-as-awkward-lesbian-reporter sketches often grow funnier as they go along, but that's the first one they've done in a long long time. Outside of that and the party film, I was bored all night.

I'm annoyed that this is the one thread I can't search for my name in, to find out where I last posted/left off.

What a bad episode. Especially in comparison to last week's.

The Kristen Wiig problem, in a nutshell, is that she's in too many sketches (some might say I could stop right there...) where she isn't part of an ensemble. Her two big sketches last night were essentially monologues, where all of the other actors were essentially props. I wouldn't even say that they were straight men. They almost literally had nothing to do.

Also! Given how little some cast members had to do in this week's episode (Will Forte, the completely absent Keenan Thompson), it's gotta get the dander up that fucking Darrell Hammond can't stay fucking gone. Jesus Christ, dude.

January Jones was a pretty WTF host choice, I mean Jon Hamm was kinda pushing it in terms of the usual minimum of fame for a host but he was pretty funny and at least he's the star of that show

she was rly bad too

sudekis is the mvp on snl right now, imo.

this was horrible, but yeah as dan's link suggests, it didn't reach 1980 levels of torpidity.

january jones may be the worst host i've seen since Bill Pullman, though.

I still prefer Hader but Sudeikis is definitely kind of the utility player that holds the ensemble together, to whatever extent it is holding together (xpost)

I do have to commend them for managing to put the two musical guests I would least like to ever see on back-to-back episodes.

Calling this the "worst episode ever" is some myopic blogger shit. There's a reason that a lot of those early 80s episodes are buried in the desert with all those ET Atari games.

Season 5 is about to come out on DVD this xmas. I wonder if they're even gonna bother putting out Season 6 or just jump to the Dana Carvey era.

In fairness most of today's bloggers weren't alive in the early 80s.

I'm a big SNL apologist, but I'd rank the last one among the worst episodes in the past 10 years.

the host was visibly inept, the musical guest was not only an abomination but performed 3x, and the sketches were uniformly unfunny. your best effort is farting grace kelly? really? really?

deric's otm re: wiig. she's great but they let her run off with the show too often. seems like every skit she is in has exactly one joke, and that's whatever character tic she's riffing on.

i wonder if she ever gets tired of playing captain crazypants multiple times each episode and nothing else
