Pacquiao's power/speed in this class is fucking ridiculous.

Conservative HOT Mom! (govern yourself accordingly), Sunday, 15 November 2009 05:16 (sixteen years ago)

anyway cotto's starting to look really exhausted which obv doesn't bode well, whereas pacman looks like he could probably fight another guy after this fight if he wanted to

Conservative HOT Mom! (govern yourself accordingly), Sunday, 15 November 2009 05:19 (sixteen years ago)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 15 November 2009 05:24 (sixteen years ago)

cotto looks fucking terrible - badly cut and swollen, gassed, barely punching at all

his cornerman saying "i'll give you one more round"

Conservative HOT Mom! (govern yourself accordingly), Sunday, 15 November 2009 05:26 (sixteen years ago)

corner evidently now giving him two more rounds (eesh)

Conservative HOT Mom! (govern yourself accordingly), Sunday, 15 November 2009 05:32 (sixteen years ago)

Shit :(

Shart Habit to Break (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 9 January 2010 10:34 (sixteen years ago)

Am I wrong to be a bit disappointed with the Pac-man over this whole drug test thing? Don't really understand what the problem is.

Shart Habit to Break (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 9 January 2010 10:35 (sixteen years ago)

The problem is that Manny's already (as far as I'm aware) complying with regulation drug testing and Floyd's pulling this blood test crap to taint his reputation. Floyd doesn't want Manny's blood tested, he just wants everyone to know he's suspicious and that there's no smoke without fire.

Did Floyd ask for such blood tests from any other opponent?

() |\| | |\/| () (onimo), Saturday, 9 January 2010 10:49 (sixteen years ago)

I assumed that it was basically that, but really why not just take the extra tests and give him the up middle finger?

Shart Habit to Break (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 9 January 2010 10:53 (sixteen years ago)

Dunno tbh, maybe he's a druggie :)

Both of them could have done more to make sure this fight happened and it would have been the biggest fight in years. Hopefully they'll get it together in the summer.

Great article surrounding the smallest non-interview ever! Thanks for the link Jimmy.

the pity party of tiny feet (onimo), Friday, 12 March 2010 12:24 (sixteen years ago)

Maybe not a large group of boxing fans here, but I'm excited for the fight tonight. Clottey is no joke, and is going to pose a serious problem to Pacquiao. That said, I see Pac edging it out. Barely. Anyway, should be awesome.

SourPatchCorpse, Saturday, 13 March 2010 12:32 (sixteen years ago)

an undistracted Pacquiao knocks Clottey out imo, but Manny's had a pretty full plate over the past year. still, I'll be surprised if this goes the distance.

the most sacred couple in Christendom (J0hn D.), Saturday, 13 March 2010 13:53 (sixteen years ago)

Maybe. I dunno man, I have a feeling this is going to be extremely brutal/competitive. Clottey has a great chin, and his two losses could have gone either way (the Cotto fight many people thinking he won). Plus, this will be the biggest man Pac has ever faced. I'm not screaming upset, I'm screaming don't be shocked if there is one. Whatever the case, definitely breakin' out the chicken wings and beer for this. Sriracha wings (killer recipe) and beer to be decided later. Yeps.

SourPatchCorpse, Saturday, 13 March 2010 15:08 (sixteen years ago)

I'll be missing it owing to previous commitments but I look forward to highlights later.

Great roundup at the Queensbury Rules.

Great, informative link. Thanks dude.

It's a freebie on Sky over here so as long as I can stay awake, I'm there.

Tibetan 'buca the Dead (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 13 March 2010 15:22 (sixteen years ago)

Debating looking for a scalper, since I live a mile from the stadium, but I don't know anyone else who'd want to go.

FIST FIGHT! FIST FIGHT! FIST FIGHT IN THE PARKING LOT! (milo z), Saturday, 13 March 2010 17:24 (sixteen years ago)

Oh man, I was just telling a buddy last night- that is ONE of the things I'd like to do before I croak, see a major prizefight. Might sound silly to some, but hey I'm something of a boxing nerd. I think you'll regret it if you don't do it. I predict a helluva battle...and hey, sounds like a happening atmosphere. I'm jealous. Find a mate, get hammered, and head out.

SourPatchCorpse, Saturday, 13 March 2010 17:37 (sixteen years ago)

milo I would 100% kick it w/you @ that fight but I'm in florida

the most sacred couple in Christendom (J0hn D.), Saturday, 13 March 2010 17:38 (sixteen years ago)

Oh- and if Clottey can pull off the upset (some in-the-know fans believe he can) you'll be witnessing something on par with the Tyson-Douglas upset. You can tell people all about it for years to come. Pretty fucking cool.

SourPatchCorpse, Saturday, 13 March 2010 17:39 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah man, don't know ya...but I'd tag along. I, too, am in Florida.

SourPatchCorpse, Saturday, 13 March 2010 17:40 (sixteen years ago)

something on par with the Tyson-Douglas upset.

let's not get carried away - Bodog has the following proposition odds:

Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 1 30/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 2 28/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 3 25/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 4 25/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 5 23/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 6 19/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 7 17/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 8 15/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 9 15/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 10 11/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 11 9/1
Manny Pacquiao wins fight in round 12 9/1
Manny Pacquiao by 12 Round Decision 7/5

Draw 19/1

Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 1 90/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 2 80/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 3 70/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 4 60/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 5 60/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 6 58/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 7 58/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 8 58/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 9 58/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 10 60/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 11 60/1
Joshua Clottey wins fight in round 12 60/1
Joshua Clottey by 12 Round Decision 19/2

by contrast, only one casino in Las Vegas would even give any kind of odds at all for Tyson-Douglas, and it was 42-1 for Douglas.

the most sacred couple in Christendom (J0hn D.), Saturday, 13 March 2010 17:50 (sixteen years ago)

Hmm. Ok, fair. But the wave Pac is riding is very similiar to how Tyson was seen. Can't be stopped. Invincible. Or, to kind of reference a Guided By Voices lyric...bulldozing the bulldozers away. Also, take into consideration how much that changes the landscape in relation to the Pac/Mayweather fight. Clottey will be a huge party pooper. But yeah, see your point.

SourPatchCorpse, Saturday, 13 March 2010 18:14 (sixteen years ago)

Clottey's a legit contender no doubt but I think Pacman's rep is way less mystical/media-enhanced than Tyson's - also, Pacquiao fights long fights. Seems to drink up punishment like a sponge. Tyson's game was, largely, being too fast and mobile and aggressive to get hit; half the guys he fought barely laid a glove on him. Pacquiao on the other hand, look at the Berrera or Marquez or Morales fights. Dude loves to scrap. Clottey's good, but he hasn't fought near the class of the guy's Pacquiao's run with. He hits super hard but I don't think he's as insane as Pacquiao about wanting to win.

nb tho I am just nutty for Pacquiao, that dude is the joy of boxing wrapped up in a small package

the most sacred couple in Christendom (J0hn D.), Saturday, 13 March 2010 18:27 (sixteen years ago)

True. A couple of things though. Clottey beat Zab Judah who is a super quick southpaw (like someone we know)...and he took heavy punches from Antonio Margarito who packs a goddamn wallop. Also, some would say- De La Hoya was washed up, Hatton was...well, Hatton...and Cotto was a different fighter after his defeat to Margarito (the hand wraps)

SourPatchCorpse, Saturday, 13 March 2010 18:47 (sixteen years ago)

I think the biggest thing in Clottey's favour is that he's a fucking monster compared with what (in my mind) Manny's used to fighting, and has faced power at that level, but the last couple of years have seen Manny knock the fuck out of a whole bunch of next biggest guys. I can't even imagine Manny fighting a guy the size Manny used to be. It's mind-bogling the weight divisions he's gone through tbh. Every time he fights a bigger guy I think he's going to find himself either losing his speed and power or simply punching a guy who doesn't feel it but it doesn't happen, or hasn't happened yet.
