Peppy Bizmilk (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 13 November 2009 16:47 (sixteen years ago)

this epi was def better than the previous ones this season. still not as loltastic as earlier seasons but i think that's maybe cause i have a handle on its M.O. and so can see most of the jokes coming.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Friday, 13 November 2009 16:55 (sixteen years ago)

lots of jerks (gbx), Friday, 13 November 2009 17:14 (sixteen years ago)

i mean you can either read it as "ok the show certainly has a defined style and this guy is in tune with it and maybe it matches his sense of humor fairly closely" OR you can go the "omg he thinks he's soooo smart" route. grow up.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Friday, 13 November 2009 17:15 (sixteen years ago)

easy! fwiw, i think plenty of the jokes are telegraphed/verging on dad-joke territory, but a) they're hilarious and b) just as many ~aren't~

lots of jerks (gbx), Friday, 13 November 2009 17:18 (sixteen years ago)

can i just say that for some reason the idea of "ghost meat" is so gross to me - such a weird & creepy thing to think about

house of flying jaggers (J0rdan S.), Friday, 13 November 2009 17:19 (sixteen years ago)

i thought it was goose meat

jazzgasms (Mr. Que), Friday, 13 November 2009 17:19 (sixteen years ago)

no i read it as, this show isn't funny anymore because i'm so smart

cutty, Friday, 13 November 2009 17:20 (sixteen years ago)

last wednesday he was like 'sigh i guess we're getting a ghost meat joke tomorrow siiiiiiiigh'

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 13 November 2009 17:23 (sixteen years ago)

yeah the awesome thing about this show is it's just PACked with jokes that you don't always get the first time around

jazzgasms (Mr. Que), Friday, 13 November 2009 17:24 (sixteen years ago)

only thing more predictible is ile defensiveness and looking to paint people in the most negative light possible.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Friday, 13 November 2009 17:25 (sixteen years ago)

ile dfensivensss = god i knew someone would take that that way. seriously go fuck yourself you insecure fuck.

i guess we should have just patted you on the back

cutty, Friday, 13 November 2009 17:27 (sixteen years ago)

because you have a handle on this show by... what season is it?

cutty, Friday, 13 November 2009 17:28 (sixteen years ago)

yes cause rather than just remarking on how i've grown accustomed to the show's humor and so it doesn't hit me as strong as it did initially (which has happened with every show ever) it's clear that i wanted a pat on the back.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Friday, 13 November 2009 17:29 (sixteen years ago)

why are you still doing it

lots of jerks (gbx), Friday, 13 November 2009 17:30 (sixteen years ago)

a Barbie-like nub where he provates should be (HI DERE), Friday, 13 November 2009 17:33 (sixteen years ago)

yeah that was actually an amazing gag to me

really the whole thing about him being ~ancient and immortal~ was weirdly hilarious

(don't know if someone mentioned it upthread, i opened up the thread before watching the episode and just bookmarked it w/o reading so i wouldn't have any jokes ruiend)

Peppy Bizmilk (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 13 November 2009 17:34 (sixteen years ago)

like it sorta felt like they were overdoing it but the waffle joke sorta dissipated whatever they were doing

lots of jerks (gbx), Friday, 13 November 2009 17:35 (sixteen years ago)

really the whole thing about him being ~ancient and immortal~ was weirdly hilarious

also the prospect of him taking over NBC completely

the waffles gag was amazing

this is true, but they're also great at the bait and switch, like, I knew there were gonna be gags involving Jenna and Tracy's shirts, but every time I tried to guess what they'd be I was wrong and pleasantly surprised

windows XD (some dude), Friday, 13 November 2009 17:38 (sixteen years ago)

^^^ totally! they know that nerds are half-smugly anticipating the punchline (guilty), so the switch is even funnier

Kinda wondering if this, coupled with the "VAMPYRA!" thing he did to jenna last episode is setting up some kind a kenneth is a vampire true blood thing?

i have no idea who this woman is but wowee.

I thought you were English! (She hosts Top Chef, was married to Salman Rushdie, Miss Universe?)

Leee, Friday, 13 November 2009 23:06 (sixteen years ago)

In rewatching the show from the beginning, I'm struck by the high level of quality throughout. Sure, some of the guest shots were a little unnecessary and there have been a few lulls, but there's something funny in every episode and most of the episodes are stellar. I would say that the only thing that stands out to me as a distinct wrong move was Sean Hayes as Kenneth's cousin. I hope they never, ever, ever, ever bring him back. Otherwise, this show is effing golden from top to bottom.

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Friday, 13 November 2009 23:13 (sixteen years ago)

i am english. the only cooking shows i watch are - saturday kitchen and nigel slater. and masterchef.

married to salman rushdie? really? seeing hot girlz w/ crepey freaks makes me sad& a lit bit mo' lonely.

a hoy hoy, Friday, 13 November 2009 23:15 (sixteen years ago)

Also: in poking around the internet, I keep seeing subtle hints that Cheyenne Jackson (Danny/Jack) may officially be part of the cast now. Like I noted somewhere above, they haven't significantly changed the status quo since episode 1, so I'm still waiting for them to figure out a way to jettison him. But he seems like he might be a good fit if he sticks around!

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Friday, 13 November 2009 23:18 (sixteen years ago)

ha, it's funny that the seeing-the-joke-coming spat is followed by talk about the waffles, because of course the whole thing with the waffles is that you do kinda know there are going to be waffles in there -- the whole point is that he just said Kenneth knows what he wants before he does -- but the follow-through is still awesome and satisfying and the actual sight of the waffles all lined up like that in waffletastic glory is itself awesome and hilarious

on the other hand I am totally smart enough to know that Tracy and Jenna would wear very different sizes of t-shirt, and they explicitly decided to trade, and yet the sizing after that jump-cut was still a delightful surprise

oɔsıqɐu (nabisco), Friday, 13 November 2009 23:51 (sixteen years ago)

I just realized where I've seen Danny/Jack! He played Sonny in "Xanadu" on Broadway! (I had family in town and they wanted to see a show. I like the movie, but this was most definitely not the movie. It was painful.)
