falafel joint by the L train is aight. i like the bagel store on north 3rd & bedford--large chili and a pumpernickel bagel is a great lunch on rainy days.

i think it has to do with permitting and tax forms for multi-national companies, i say this only because it took Ippudo forever to open as well (but not 2 years wtf).

one month passes...

Finally tried SriPraPhai - quite good. We had

Papaya Salad
BBQ Pork with Chili/Lime/Garlic appetizer
Tom Kha Gai
Pork with Mustard Greens soup
Whole steamed bass with soy, ginger and scallion
Coconut ice cream (which had large pieces of coconut meat in it and some kind of strange covering)

Everything was very good. Need to go back with someone who can handle spicy food (the lady cannot, unfortunately).

pithfork (Hurting 2), Saturday, 26 December 2009 05:22 (sixteen years ago)

i LOVE that place so so so much. crispy pork with chinese broccoli ftw. and the whole fish I had there was fantastic; I don't remember the particulars though. and the salads.

ian, Saturday, 26 December 2009 05:57 (sixteen years ago)

ian, how many time's do I have to say it? Zabb Queen's Crispy Pork w/ Chinese Broccoli makes me unable to even eat Srips! It's that much better.

dan selzer, Saturday, 26 December 2009 18:52 (sixteen years ago)

I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO ZABB QUEENS.

I have tentative plans to go to Franny's tomorrow night. Good reviews from ian and icey are encouraging. Anyone else been there? Also, will the wait be ridiculous?

Lusty Mo Frazier (jaymc), Thursday, 18 February 2010 21:29 (sixteen years ago)

franny's is great, especially for the appetizers/ vegetable dishes; don't just get pizza. i never go on weekends cause i assume the wait will be bad, but not sure.

lol at the huge beauquet of twigs on the bar

yeahhh (surm), Friday, 26 February 2010 00:34 (sixteen years ago)

Franny's was very good, btw. I was in a bit of a rush, so I just got pizza, but it did not disappoint. I had the buffalo mozzarella, ricotta, garlic, oregano, and hot peppers -- really nice balance between the sweet creaminess of the ricotta and the kick of the peppers. And the crust was thin but nicely doughy -- I've been to other Neapolitan places where it's too flimsy, so this was appreciated.

dylan's craggy larynx (jaymc), Friday, 26 February 2010 00:38 (sixteen years ago)

still have not been to franny's

yeahhh (surm), Friday, 26 February 2010 01:33 (sixteen years ago)

new italian place for ft green
http://newyork.grubstreet.com/2010/07/first_look_at_dino_serving_nor.html
maybe not too exciting, but could be good for simple dishes, prices more reasonable than roman's.

(mizzell -- dino, that is. have you been yet? i got the spaghetti w/ lemon and parmesan, and a salad, and all of it was quite simply perfect - o and some delicious bitter herbs crostini)

also ft greene's Kaz A Nou is wonderful

janice (surm), Wednesday, 21 July 2010 13:39 (fifteen years ago)

i went and i got that lemon parmesan dish. simple, delicious, executed very well. also got a fennel salad, i think. salad was actually too big. good portions for the price.

mizzell, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 14:02 (fifteen years ago)

omg ! that's the same exact dinner i got!

janice (surm), Wednesday, 21 July 2010 14:07 (fifteen years ago)

might try A Bistro tonight http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/abistro/

janice (surm), Wednesday, 21 July 2010 14:16 (fifteen years ago)

Loved it. Got the "fried chicken". Which isn't battered and fried chicken, totally different. Been twice. Tiny place but really awesome.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 15:08 (fifteen years ago)

very cool. is it air conditioned? very pricey?

janice (surm), Wednesday, 21 July 2010 15:09 (fifteen years ago)

also ft greene's Kaz A Nou is wonderful

really been wanting to go there

janice (surm), Wednesday, 21 July 2010 15:51 (fifteen years ago)

that and the duck leg confit with mango jerk sauce look awesome

dmr, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 15:53 (fifteen years ago)

o and dmr i tried James. really nice!

janice (surm), Wednesday, 21 July 2010 15:58 (fifteen years ago)

don't remember if A Bistro is a/c, but it's probably pricey. It's a fancy little reservation type place, I think.

But worth it, our meals were pretty great!

dan selzer, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 16:21 (fifteen years ago)

you go to the crepe place yet dan?

iatee, Wednesday, 21 July 2010 16:23 (fifteen years ago)

No, we haven't. Any good?

Saw Siestama wrote about the Brazillian/Tibetan fusion place around the corner but it still looks empty. We went once and it was really good, but a bit pricey for the hood.

Went back to Richmond Hill last night to explore trinidadian food, got some doubles then went looking for another place but everything was closing by 8:30/9 for some reason.

I had a really good meal at ofrenda last week, like my first taste of 'real real' mexican food

dyao, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 13:35 (fifteen years ago)

No, we haven't. Any good?

yeah! I mean they're a bit expensive for the neighborhood, but the woman who makes them def knows what she's doing. very nice people too.

iatee, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 13:42 (fifteen years ago)

haha I didn't see that you wrote 'pricey for the hood' before I wrote that - so easy to get that mindset here

iatee, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 13:43 (fifteen years ago)

also been meaning to try that new indian place on skillman

iatee, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 13:45 (fifteen years ago)

gotten bad reviews on Chowhound. People prefer Curry Point, which is a more homey-pakistani/bangladeshi place down on Greenpoint Ave below Queens blvd. The kind of place like there used to be hundreds of in Jackson Heights, but not so much here.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:07 (fifteen years ago)

never been to that one, but we pretty rarely go south of queens blvd for a meal. I know you're not a fan, but we are usually pretty content w/ masala (helps that it's 20 seconds away).

iatee, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:14 (fifteen years ago)

i ate at great n.y. noodletown this weekend for the first time and it was ________so good___________

max, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 15:24 (fifteen years ago)

what's good and not-pricey for dinner around 9th Ave in 40s or 50s these days?
