I think every sketch made me laugh at least once, which is unheard of.
― lindseykai, Sunday, 8 November 2009 06:18 (fourteen years ago) link
It was a common occurrence in the days of Lovitz and Hartman. So funniest ever? Nah.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 8 November 2009 06:19 (fourteen years ago) link
Back then you'd have to sit through a Pat Stevens sketch or some other cringe-worthy bomb at some point in the evening. I stand by my assertion.
― lindseykai, Sunday, 8 November 2009 06:26 (fourteen years ago) link
What? Nora Dunn was always awesome.
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 8 November 2009 06:30 (fourteen years ago) link
LOL Hader as Eddie Vedder. I wish he'd done it for a little longer.

i hope you guys realize that for anyone who doesn't have a computer and TV in the same room and tries to read this thread after watching the episode, half your posts about "this sketch" and "this character" make absolutely no sense w/o any further comment or context, unless i like try really hard to match up the time of the posts to a sketch or something
― lindsay goham (some dude), Sunday, 8 November 2009 13:56 (fourteen years ago) link
it was a good episode, though not as amazing as y'all seem to think, swift was a good host. it was weird that samberg was in so many sketches.
Okay, I don't think we're going to reach an understanding in this debate. Saying Nora Dunn was always awesome is almost as crazy as saying Molly Shannon was always awesome.
― lindseykai, Sunday, 8 November 2009 14:45 (fourteen years ago) link
If anything, Taylor Swift would be a great repeat host.
― Elvis Telecom, Monday, 9 November 2009 07:17 (fourteen years ago) link
1) I concur that Taylor Swift was a surprisingly good host, and that I really wouldn't mind seeing her host again.
2) I will seriously question Lorne Michaels' judement if Bobby Moynihan isn't a full-fledged cast member by the beginning of next season at the latest.
3) I know it was part of the point, but the Bunny Business sketch really felt like someone found a script from the mid-90s behind a file cabinet somewhere and dusted it off.
4) Just an observation: it occurs to me that this is (seemingly) the most genial cast in as long as I can remember. Aside from, like, maybe Seth Meyers (who may be a great guy but seems to have more asshole potiential than most of the others), they all seem like affable folks who are probably really friendly offstage. I notice the contrast when watching older episodes with earlier casts where some/a lot of them seem like they're probably somewhat dickish offstage (as has been confirmed in some cases). I don't know if that has something to do with the dearth of stand-ups (often not the happiest or most pleasant people in the world) in the current cast, but I'm curious as to what effect that has on the quality of show. It's probably a healthier environment, psychologically, than it has been at times in the past, but I wonder what effect an environment without much conflict has on the quality of the material produced. Yes, I do think about these things, sometimes quite a lot.

In addition to questioning Lorne Michaels' judement, I will also be questioning his judgment just for good measure.
Bunny Business was A+ for me
Taylor certainly had better stage presence then when she was on last year. I remember her being so incredibly nervous/awkward/stiff.

shit episode except for fred armisen's randy newman impression
― congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 00:17 (fourteen years ago) link
Deric, why do you think Seth has "asshole potential"?
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 00:17 (fourteen years ago) link
I didn't see Taylor Swift last year, but nervous/awkward/stiff kind of sums up her presence on the show the other night. Hard to watch at times. Bunny Business and Firelight were the best bits.
