Well I did get some good news today... I just got hired by General Dynamics to work on the TFX project. Maybe something good will finally come out of that information science degree after all.

We have this American high school kid, Oliver, staying at our place as an exchange student. He's totally hysterical about this whole assassination thing, you should all the weird-ass loony theories he's coming up with. He says that when he gets back to the States he's gonna "convince them all of the truth!". I think he's lucky if he manages to convince the neighbour's dog.

The print setter at work just told everyone some American president got shot, and something about aboriginal kids no longer being kidnapped by the government. Most of the people here don't know what America or aborigines is. If only we had a worldwide electronic information resource.

why so many?

Dallas has a suspect, Lee Harvey Oswald. Apparently, he is in fact a Communist.

Since when did the media start adding middle names to these guys? They never did that with Charlie Starkweather. Probably just a trend.

John Wilkes Booth!

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 15 February 2008 02:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Okay him. But at least they gave it a rest for Charles Guiteau and Leon Czolgosz.

But really. I can't even believe that we're talking about the president of the United States dying today.

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 15 February 2008 03:12 (sixteen years ago) link

xxp What a day. CS Lewis died today, too.

Flags at half-mast (half-staff?) here in Little Rock. Can't stop watching the news on TV. Probably going to be like this through the weekend.

Pleasant Plains, Friday, 15 February 2008 03:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Imagine if channels always ran news nonstop like this. That'd be so cool.

Autumn Almanac, Friday, 15 February 2008 03:55 (sixteen years ago) link

i can't help but feel this is some kind of cosmic justice for the stolen election of 1960. chickens be comin' home to roost, is it not so?

gershy, Friday, 15 February 2008 04:26 (sixteen years ago) link

There's a good side to this though, because one day you'll have a mad republican president who invades all sorts of countries and can't manage the economy and is shit, and he'll be assassinated too. Clouds and silver linings and all that.

Oh this is so sad. Puts our grumbles about the snow into perspective.

I wonder how David Frost will cover it on TWTWTW.

Billy Dods, Friday, 15 February 2008 09:04 (sixteen years ago) link

Let's hope they don't make the mistake of going all gooey and sentimental, like getting Millicent Martin to sing "Three Bells" or something.

Is it just me, or have all the radio stations stopped playing music?

Are Gerry and the Pacemakers "Merseybeat"? What's a Mersey?

Matt DC, Friday, 15 February 2008 13:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Anyway, I bet the Americans bomb Cuba to fuck over this - we could be in the early days of World War 3 already :(

At least the suspect is safely in police hands

US radio stations USELESS!

A nation in MOURNING and all they can do is play BLAND POPIST PAP by fly-by-night NME hypes like the BEATLES!

Systems thinking can solve this mess - all radio programmers to be SACKED and REPLACED by AWARE PROACTIVE programmers with full knowledge of diverse music spectra including developments in HARD FORMALIST ORNETTECORE, VARESE SPUNKWAVE and TRAD FADELA.

Dingbod Kesterson, Friday, 15 February 2008 14:20 (sixteen years ago) link

TRAD FAVELA even.

Dingbod Kesterson, Friday, 15 February 2008 14:20 (sixteen years ago) link

In the light of this, I think all competitive sport should be suspended immediately. I can't see the point in continuing with a triviality like the current English football season.

Again? Didn't he die like a year ago or something? Something there is that doesn't like the grave.

Police correspondent Alex Drake quipped "it's all a dream, I'm in 1963world" at a special press conference.

"Don't try it" added 34-year-old British tourist and witness to the shooting John Ravenscroft.
