Featurerequests: reordering of boards in the board list, so I can drag my favourites to the top. And those little filled-or-hollow bullet points that tell me whether there are new posts in a thread.

Stet this is really cool and would be even better if I had an Iphone :-( great work though.
just one question ... what the hell are you drinking at £4.99 a pint????
― tomofthenest, Saturday, 7 November 2009 11:42 (sixteen years ago)

prediction: stet's gonna get wasted!
Oh god, he'll turn up at mine and make me drink vodka with a Blue Aftershock mixer.
Anyway, yes. This is truly a piece of aceness.

Stellar.
― J, Saturday, 7 November 2009 13:24 (sixteen years ago)
it's a (I believe) 70/30 split between Apple and stet, so I think it work out to about a pint :^)
― 囧 (dyao), Saturday, 7 November 2009 13:33 (sixteen years ago)
stet this is awesome, thanks so much man!
― call all destroyer, Saturday, 7 November 2009 13:39 (sixteen years ago)

― ljubljana, Saturday, 7 November 2009 14:11 (sixteen years ago)
Awesome stuff, thanks very much, everyone! I really appreciate it. I had no idea there were so many iphones on here.
koogs: There's some slightly out-of-date-but-mostly-right screenshots in this post
JimD: Yeah, am working on editing the boards that appear on the start page so you can cut it down to your favourites and reorder etc.
― stet, Saturday, 7 November 2009 14:45 (sixteen years ago)
Ace. :)
― JimD, Saturday, 7 November 2009 14:52 (sixteen years ago)
ok this is pretty amazing -- fantastic work!
― elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Saturday, 7 November 2009 14:55 (sixteen years ago)
I will, happily, because just yesterday I figured out how to do screenshots on an iPhone: as you hold the home button at the bottom, press the sleep button on top. It saves a screenshot to your photoroll, which you can then email to yourself and upload to tinypic.
Give me just a sec...
― nearly one-third of a man (Z S), Saturday, 7 November 2009 15:28 (sixteen years ago)
Oops, I didn't see stet's post just above with the link to screenshots. Yeah, it basically looks like that. The only main difference is that pictures don't appear in the thread - you have to click on the individual posts to see them. Which is actually fine, because it makes picture heavy threads load a lot faster.
Again, great work Stet, this is going to make goofing off on ILX waaaaay easier at work now. :)
― nearly one-third of a man (Z S), Saturday, 7 November 2009 15:35 (sixteen years ago)
Thank you! Yeah, it's never done the images inline -- the performance would be really horrible and slow. I might look at doing an image browser like in Facebook for picture threads, though.
― stet, Saturday, 7 November 2009 16:33 (sixteen years ago)
Holy lol at the screenshots
― Yeah~ I can flay~~~ (HI DERE), Saturday, 7 November 2009 17:22 (sixteen years ago)
One thing I'd request; a white background on the app logo. It'd look so much nicer on my screen.
― exploding angel vagina (Scik Mouthy), Saturday, 7 November 2009 18:05 (sixteen years ago)
Found this thru my app store search. iPhone is being stupid and not letting me install.
― kingfish, Saturday, 7 November 2009 18:19 (sixteen years ago)
An image browser would be fantastic!
― schwantz, Saturday, 7 November 2009 21:51 (sixteen years ago)

feature request: landscape keyboard! also more bb code tags
― 囧 (dyao), Sunday, 8 November 2009 03:14 (sixteen years ago)
yep, have landscape keyboard working already, also the full set of bbcode will be in 1.1. I've got a few other fixes, but I couldn't upload them while it was in review without losing my place in the queue. App store is frustrating as hell.
― stet, Sunday, 8 November 2009 03:25 (sixteen years ago)
just spotted a bookmarking bug too. Will fix
I don't think stet making this app and stet running the server have anything to do with each other, jeff. If it were any other user writing the app would you have asked the question?
― Mark C, Sunday, 8 November 2009 11:18 (sixteen years ago)
hey stet are u going to add admin log at some point?
― call all destroyer, Sunday, 8 November 2009 14:07 (sixteen years ago)
Wasn't going to -- it's not in the API, so it'd be hard. Same with search, but I'd really like to add that somehow.
Shld also add SB for czn's portable suggestin needs.
― stet, Sunday, 8 November 2009 14:28 (sixteen years ago)
I like the message you get when you x post

― Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 11 November 2009 11:49 (sixteen years ago)

― ken 'a shaved finn' c (ken c), Wednesday, 11 November 2009 12:36 (sixteen years ago)
im embarrassed at how rad i find this app, i mean, i dont want to admit how great it is to use ilx on my iphone, but, you know.
any chance we could get archiving of bookmarks for offline browsing?
― max, Wednesday, 11 November 2009 13:36 (sixteen years ago)
you could just use instapaper for all yr offline bookmarkin needs - i find myself using it more than safari these days
― Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 11 November 2009 13:38 (sixteen years ago)
Tracer: does it need to save whereever you are, or can it just remember if you're reading a thread or in the middle of compose. I've been trying to save state, but it's a bit tricky as the server can completely change between launches, and threads that were there have dropped off new answers.
Archiving of bookmarks is a good idea actually -- then you could bookmark a post before getting on the subway or w/e, and the whole thing'd be there on the phone. Or I could add in Instapaper integration.
― stet, Wednesday, 11 November 2009 14:15 (sixteen years ago)
exactly as it was wd be ideal but just remembering what thread you were reading wd be almost as great
― Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 11 November 2009 14:20 (sixteen years ago)
yes, exactly.
― max, Wednesday, 11 November 2009 14:21 (sixteen years ago)
does instapaper even need integration? i just hit the "read later" bookmark in firefox and BILL VIOLA this thread is there
― Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 11 November 2009 15:12 (sixteen years ago)
oh, within zing of course, duh
id rather have a built-in archiving feature in zing
― max, Wednesday, 11 November 2009 15:42 (sixteen years ago)
that seems simpler
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 11 November 2009 15:43 (sixteen years ago)
this kind of changes the way i look at ILX even. it's more like twitter now.
― cutty, Wednesday, 11 November 2009 17:06 (sixteen years ago)
is that a good thing? RT @cutty this kind of changes the way i look at ILX even. it's more like twitter now.

Uploading to Apple today!
I downloaded this update and I’m sorry to report the mute thread function isn’t “sticky” in the same way that the mute poster one is, as in you can mute a thread but once you go to a different app and come back the muted topic reappears.
― hat stays on (gyac), Friday, 12 June 2026 21:41 (one week ago)
same here, some cursed threads lately
― The Immortal Bird of Avon (Boring, Maryland), Friday, 12 June 2026 22:14 (one week ago)
Arggggg I’ve clearly done something dumb; this works for me. Will take a look this weekend
― stet, Saturday, 13 June 2026 10:18 (one week ago)
Nice tweaks and touchups aside from that tho! THANK YOU for ignoring “liquid shite” UI elements too
― assert (matttkkkk), Saturday, 13 June 2026 14:16 (one week ago)
Not sure if it had a recent update but Zing is cutting off the last line of a proportion of posts on my iPad Pro 11 (landscape screen). Also, dunno if it helps with Zing iOS but the nifty sidebar for new posts in a thread is always just the last post, rather than all the new posts since I opened the thread last. Thought that may relate to some kind of session ID which is resetting and breaking the “muted thread” memory. Lastly a UI suggestion, it would be fun if thread muting worked by left swiping the topic in the questions list. Gee, I don’t ask for much, do I? Would be happy to pay for this app as a way to support you and/or the site.
― assert (matttkkkk), Tuesday, 16 June 2026 22:28 (six days ago)
What theme do you have set and what text size in accessibility settings? I’ll try and replicate. I don’t think I totally understand the sidebar thing, what could be newer than the last post?
