If you like - though I'll give people a day or two next week to add more to the existing list.

i wonder if i still love doug and hey arnold and etc. enough to nominate them. hmmm.
oh, and biker mice from mars.
this poll gonna be heavily skewed by childhood.
― autogooner (a hoy hoy), Friday, 6 November 2009 17:30 (sixteen years ago)
would be so refreshing to have poll results dominated by kids' shows and trad sitcoms instead of big serious serial dramas
― lindsay goham (some dude), Friday, 6 November 2009 17:34 (sixteen years ago)
was interesting to see the amount of love for American Idol here - the UK equivalents don't seem to be rated by anyone (for me it would be a bit like voting for Blind Date in the 90s poll)
― modescalator (blueski), Friday, 6 November 2009 18:56 (sixteen years ago)
The host for Blind Date used to host a roundtable scifi discussion show where Dwight Schulz would shake intently at Harlan Ellison.

New X Factor suckz. Charlie Brooker put it perfectly in 2 of his saturday articles: 1. adding a crowd from day 1 ruins the joek on retards/making yr mind up on good ones 2. not knowing what to do when the 'step up' was supposed to be how they deal with the added pressure of a crowd etc. so just adding more lights.

survivor and amazing race were such a big part of my t.v. decade that i couldn't NOT vote for them. i might not watch them like i did, but i was definitely fanatical about those initial (i dunno, 4 or 5) seasons.
― scott seward, Friday, 6 November 2009 19:05 (sixteen years ago)
I thought he meanthttp://hogwild.net/images/Misc/roger.lodge.jpguntil I realized there was a British show by the same name.
― jaymc, Friday, 6 November 2009 19:06 (sixteen years ago)
loved some of the first seasons of big brother too (though not the first one which was the worst. and now it has really gone down some hellish musclemania mtv hole), but not as much.
― scott seward, Friday, 6 November 2009 19:07 (sixteen years ago)
OH. I forgot all about Comedians Of Comedy. That would have very likely ended up on my final ballot. Can we redo poll now plz? Thanks!
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Friday, 6 November 2009 19:16 (sixteen years ago)
Was there anything on Arrested Development quite as disturbing as Will Arnett humping Aziz Ansari in a Mary Kate mask on Human Giant?
― Philip Nunez, Friday, 6 November 2009 19:22 (sixteen years ago)
the Comedians of Comedy movie was pretty funny, but the series was much lighter on funny standup stuff and filled more time with them being whiny regular people and hanging out in comic book stores
― lindsay goham (some dude), Friday, 6 November 2009 19:27 (sixteen years ago)
exactly. how could it fail to make an ilx top ten.
― scott seward, Friday, 6 November 2009 19:31 (sixteen years ago)
Ha ha. Yes. My sentiments exactly. I loved the behind the scenes stuff!
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Friday, 6 November 2009 19:34 (sixteen years ago)
i've just noticed no-one has started calling other people racist or sexist or whatever yet on this thread and thus i am not sure it can count as a proper 1000+ post ILX thread and we may have to start again.

is it true there's going to be a black dr. who?
― Philip Nunez, Friday, 6 November 2009 20:30 (sixteen years ago)
there were some early rumblings w/ britishers feeling discriminated against, but I guess they just realized american tv is better
― iatee, Friday, 6 November 2009 20:33 (sixteen years ago)
Britishers will wipe the floor with Americans in a 90's poll. The Day Today puts 95% of the States' 90's output to shame.
― The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Friday, 6 November 2009 20:34 (sixteen years ago)
yeah I have never heard of that show so I won't vote for it
― iatee, Friday, 6 November 2009 20:35 (sixteen years ago)
well there was a nice little stuffwhitepeoplelike stint of the thread the other day, but yeah, even that wasn't actually hostile. probably a lot of the really heated debate that woulda feuled those arguments got aired out a bit in the Wire/Sopranos wars.
― lindsay goham (some dude), Friday, 6 November 2009 20:35 (sixteen years ago)
there should be a basic exam to prove eligibility for 90s poll voting
― The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Friday, 6 November 2009 20:36 (sixteen years ago)
1) are you British?
― lindsay goham (some dude), Friday, 6 November 2009 20:36 (sixteen years ago)
If you look at the results of this poll, you might think there are no television shows made in countries where people don't primarily speak english!
So I will take this time to give a shout-out to the ongoing excellence of Sabado Gigante, and various Japanese variety shows that have given me so much joy.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Friday, 6 November 2009 20:37 (sixteen years ago)
you might also conclude that on a site where everyone posts in English (one subboard aside) most everyone is an average Westerner who only speaks that one language
― lindsay goham (some dude), Friday, 6 November 2009 20:40 (sixteen years ago)
the subboard i'm referring to of course being 1 pWN 3v3Ry+h1n G!!!1
Does Day to Day really translate? I had to take on faith that UK media and political landscape was accurately and deservedly skewered to find Brass Eye funny.
― Philip Nunez, Friday, 6 November 2009 20:40 (sixteen years ago)
The Africa channel on Sky should also be mentioned, if only for sheer wtf-ness.
― autogooner (a hoy hoy), Friday, 6 November 2009 20:41 (sixteen years ago)
I forgot to include a winking emoticon with my previous post.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Friday, 6 November 2009 20:41 (sixteen years ago)
Africa channel only in English though. Loses marks for pandering to its only audience being able to understand it. What sellouts.
― autogooner (a hoy hoy), Friday, 6 November 2009 20:42 (sixteen years ago)
colonialism still rife and evil.
― autogooner (a hoy hoy), Friday, 6 November 2009 20:43 (sixteen years ago)
Sabado Gigante is incredible though, no winking on that point.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Friday, 6 November 2009 20:43 (sixteen years ago)
The Day Today is better if you are aware of British culture, but I'm American and watched it within three weeks of coming to the UK, and although quite a bit flew over my head, "Headmaster suspended for using big-faced boy as satellite dish" is universal.
― The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Friday, 6 November 2009 20:46 (sixteen years ago)
i actually put Paranoia Agent in my ballot, though i knew it didn't stand a chance
― Nhex, Friday, 6 November 2009 20:47 (sixteen years ago)
lol only 5 of the shows i voted for made it on the top 50
― kamina west (Lamp), Friday, 6 November 2009 20:47 (sixteen years ago)
"Headmaster suspended for using big-faced boy as satellite dish"
I think I'm gonna pass on this show

I almost wonder if it wouldn't be a better idea for an American audience to check out Jam and then work backwards through the Chris Morris stuff? Jam kinda pummels you with Morris' perspective and sense of humor without as much Brit-centric cultural/political stuff, and if you make it through the extremity of the pummeling, it's probably a decent gauge of how much you'll like his other stuff.
Keeping in mind, of course, that Jam is one of the most fucked up (yet brilliant) things I've ever seen on television.

my ballot would have been
1) AD2) Frisky Dingo3) The Thick Of It
and then I wouldn't have really cared much
― joekin' phoenix (country matters), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:50 (sixteen years ago)
oh wait 4) Jam although sic is correct in observing that Blue Jam is MUCH better, to the extent at which it's actually my favourite show ever in any medium
― joekin' phoenix (country matters), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:51 (sixteen years ago)
i never got around to jam/bluejam. i guess i should considering i love teh morris, but i just don't find myself caring. tell me otherwise lj.
― autogooner (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:52 (sixteen years ago)
torrent-download all 18 episodes of Blue Jam pronto before I come round to your house and inform you your television is full of lizards
― joekin' phoenix (country matters), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:53 (sixteen years ago)
it's like some dude with the best music taste ever and one of the keenest comic sensibilities of his time decided to combine all of this into some kind of freaked-out-but-coherent hour-long DJ set, and repeated the process 16 more times (one episode is aborted after 15 minutes due to Diana funeral sampling controversy)...the level of craft that goes into the sampling, repeating, mashing and timing is, erm, stunning
and the comedy is next-level stygian
― joekin' phoenix (country matters), Tuesday, 10 November 2009 14:57 (sixteen years ago)
that sounds like a headache.
