was interesting to see the amount of love for American Idol here - the UK equivalents don't seem to be rated by anyone (for me it would be a bit like voting for Blind Date in the 90s poll)

New X Factor suckz. Charlie Brooker put it perfectly in 2 of his saturday articles: 1. adding a crowd from day 1 ruins the joek on retards/making yr mind up on good ones 2. not knowing what to do when the 'step up' was supposed to be how they deal with the added pressure of a crowd etc. so just adding more lights.

survivor and amazing race were such a big part of my t.v. decade that i couldn't NOT vote for them. i might not watch them like i did, but i was definitely fanatical about those initial (i dunno, 4 or 5) seasons.

loved some of the first seasons of big brother too (though not the first one which was the worst. and now it has really gone down some hellish musclemania mtv hole), but not as much.

the Comedians of Comedy movie was pretty funny, but the series was much lighter on funny standup stuff and filled more time with them being whiny regular people and hanging out in comic book stores

Britishers will wipe the floor with Americans in a 90's poll. The Day Today puts 95% of the States' 90's output to shame.

So I will take this time to give a shout-out to the ongoing excellence of Sabado Gigante, and various Japanese variety shows that have given me so much joy.

Does Day to Day really translate? I had to take on faith that UK media and political landscape was accurately and deservedly skewered to find Brass Eye funny.

The Africa channel on Sky should also be mentioned, if only for sheer wtf-ness.

The Day Today is better if you are aware of British culture, but I'm American and watched it within three weeks of coming to the UK, and although quite a bit flew over my head, "Headmaster suspended for using big-faced boy as satellite dish" is universal.

I almost wonder if it wouldn't be a better idea for an American audience to check out Jam and then work backwards through the Chris Morris stuff? Jam kinda pummels you with Morris' perspective and sense of humor without as much Brit-centric cultural/political stuff, and if you make it through the extremity of the pummeling, it's probably a decent gauge of how much you'll like his other stuff.

Keeping in mind, of course, that Jam is one of the most fucked up (yet brilliant) things I've ever seen on television.
