the ending makes sense - sometimes bleak losers have mini wins

It feels like a failure of nerve in a programme that was almost wholly misanthropic all down the line.

Drag Me to Hull (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:25 (sixteen years ago)

daily show - correspondents are not great these days, interviews have been getting shittier and shittier, somebody needs to drop rob riggle out of a plane

PHEAR MY POORAPULT (jjjusten), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:26 (sixteen years ago)

^^^^ nonsense. yes there are plenty of funny corresponents, in fact they have better people there today than they did in the past imo.

guess I was the only 1st place voter.

iatee, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:27 (sixteen years ago)

i did some statistical breakdown based on safe assumptions of the top few not yet posted, for some fun analysis of the 'ilx demographic'. by network, for the US shows:

HBO: 8 (incl. Ali G )
FOX: 6
NBC: 5
UPN/WB/CW: 4
Comedy Central: 4
AMC: 2
MTV/MTV2: 2
CBS: 1
ABC: 1
FX, Starz, SyFy, Showtime, Bravo: 1 each

can't really be bothered to figure out the UK shows or if any weren't BBC or whatever, but there were 11 of those

lindsay goham (some dude), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:27 (sixteen years ago)

i mean how many times have they done the "rob riggle in an inappropriate sleeveless shirt oh the laughter" joke?

xposts saying the current correspondents are better than ed helms/cobert is madness btw

PHEAR MY POORAPULT (jjjusten), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:28 (sixteen years ago)

MADNESS!

PHEAR MY POORAPULT (jjjusten), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:28 (sixteen years ago)

By genre:

Hourlong dramas and dramedies: 21
Half-hour live action sitcoms: 14
Non-fiction/reality/unscripted/nature/variety/etc.: 8
Animated: 6
Sketch: 2

lindsay goham (some dude), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:28 (sixteen years ago)

ok its kinda pathetic that the top youtube results for daily show cramer are just other new shows talking about that episode and showing clips (i know you can watch it on the daily show site tho)

modescalator (blueski), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:28 (sixteen years ago)

what from MTV made it?

musically, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:28 (sixteen years ago)

colbert and ed helms are both better placed in their current positions than when they got 2 minutes a week to talk. samantha bee and john oliver are as strong imo.

iatee, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:29 (sixteen years ago)

not the Daily Show exactly, but one of JS's best moments imo:

i spose i didn't see an all pervasive misanthropy there, but plenty of moments of light and lightness. horses for courses.

lindsay goham (some dude), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:30 (sixteen years ago)

musically - Jackass, no?

ailsa, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:31 (sixteen years ago)

still think My Super Sweet 16 has a chance of top 3

modescalator (blueski), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:31 (sixteen years ago)

larry willmore is awesome.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:32 (sixteen years ago)

thanks, forgot about Jackass and had never heard of Wonder Showzen

musically, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:32 (sixteen years ago)

I like the younger black guy I can never remember the name of. Wish they used John Oliver less, even though I still like him.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:33 (sixteen years ago)

not the Daily Show exactly, but one of JS's best moments imo:

not seen much of him before [*brit alert*] but some fine stuff there

do you want to be happier? (whatever), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:34 (sixteen years ago)

i was watching cougartown last night (and kind of enjoying it) and i tried to think of the last time abc had a sitcom worth watching. i couldn't think of anything.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:34 (sixteen years ago)

that larry willmore clip is so hilarious

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:35 (sixteen years ago)

cougartown reminded me that i used to have a crush on kate from the drew carey show. cuz kate from the drew carey show is on cougartown. and blonde girl from freaks and geeks is on cougartown!

scott seward, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:35 (sixteen years ago)

Modern Family is on right before it!

musically, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:35 (sixteen years ago)

(or after, I watch it on Hulu so I'm not sure)

musically, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:35 (sixteen years ago)

Various BBC channels- 6.
Various Channel 4 channels- 5.
Sky Sports- 1.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:36 (sixteen years ago)

not seen much of him before [*brit alert*] but some fine stuff there - I didn't post the whole interview (it is about 15 min), but def worth checking out. See also: Colbert at the White House correspondents dinner '05.

modescalator (blueski), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:36 (sixteen years ago)

jaymc, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:36 (sixteen years ago)

ha cool, thanks

more stats for US shows:

broadcast networks: 17
basic cable: 13
premium cable: 10

lindsay goham (some dude), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:36 (sixteen years ago)

re: cougartown: yeah they know exactly what they were doing w/the casting on that show. too bad it's basically at the level of the later scrubs seasons, veering between ok and whyyyyyyyyyy

Nhex, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:37 (sixteen years ago)

i don't know, for some reason i felt like daily show/colbert weren't appropriate for this poll, but it's not like i voted for any reality or news shows anyway

Nhex, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:37 (sixteen years ago)

top 5 coming from whenever I can be bothered to type up #5.

*drum roll*

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:38 (sixteen years ago)

post pictures of cougar lady or gtfo

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:38 (sixteen years ago)

I have to admit to liking the Daily Show with the smarmy jock anchor better, but mostly because of the constant exploding head clips of Story of Ricky (which he apparently had dibs on, and took with him when he left?)

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:39 (sixteen years ago)

its monica cox arquette tho right? fuck that noise xp

modescalator (blueski), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:39 (sixteen years ago)

And blonde one is Busy Phillips right?

Jibe, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:41 (sixteen years ago)

really? monica?

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:41 (sixteen years ago)

jordan from scrubs is still cute but the facial plastic surgery is weiiiiiiiird now, def prefer kim kelly now

her face in that pic above is totally photoshopped

Nhex, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:41 (sixteen years ago)

busy phillips is awes and totally deserves to be on this thread.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:41 (sixteen years ago)

I have to admit to liking the Daily Show with the smarmy jock anchor better - Craig Kilborn. At the time, I liked the Beth Littleford interviews w/ random eccentrics & washed-up celebrities but, looking back, a lot of that was unnecessarily mean-spirited.

you just freaked out more than our director of lols (Pillbox), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:42 (sixteen years ago)

top 5 for Mad Men! where do you stand on this, jjusten?

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:42 (sixteen years ago)

better than top four i guess

PHEAR MY POORAPULT (jjjusten), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:43 (sixteen years ago)

he's SAAAAAD MEN

modescalator (blueski), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:43 (sixteen years ago)

Weird, saw Mad Men at #5, then scrolled down to huge photo and thought that was Matthew Weiner on the far left.
