Not all characters are loathsome. Just those you see all the time like Jack and Kate for ex. Guys like Desmond are really not loathsome.
― Jibe, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:07 (sixteen years ago)
Sayid and Sawyer not loathsome. Also, Hurley.
― ailsa, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:08 (sixteen years ago)
Don't forget Walt. And the horse.

if you hate hurley or desmond, i don't know what to tell you, brother
― Nhex, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:09 (sixteen years ago)
there is a horse? or did sarah jessica parker finally get another job post-sex and the city?
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:10 (sixteen years ago)
controversy time: i didn't vote for Office UK but Office US was my #25
― Nhex, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:10 (sixteen years ago)
Jack's Tattoo episode was written to be shit, to prove to the network that they needed to set an end date to tell the story instead of continually dragging on. Now the show is infinitely better (I would say it picks up about 6 episodes before the ending of season 3 and never really stops), but the downside is they lost ailsa.
― The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:10 (sixteen years ago)
(I'm only basing my non-loathsomeness on what I've seen up to the middle of season 3, obviously. They might have turned into right bastards since then)
xpost, they might get me back one day, when I stop devoting all my time to shit that no-one else watches like Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
― ailsa, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:11 (sixteen years ago)
Oh, I didnt know they did it on purpose, making it shit. They were really successful at achieving what they intended to!

u.k. office was so great. and way better than u.s. version. sorry yankees!
― scott seward, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:12 (sixteen years ago)
Don't think they intentionally wrote a shit episode to make a studio give them less episodes. More episodes, more repeats, more syndication money to make them bazillionaires. Throwing in one or two filler episodes not really done to show that television companies don't know what they are doing - the show makers should have already been focussed if that was the case.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:13 (sixteen years ago)
Re: Rose/Bernard (from the Lost, Season 6 thread)
Call me cold hearted, but I kinda hope that Rose & Bernard have been sucked into some black hole vacuum & remain there for the rest of the series.

See, I would rather watch them die, personally.

I'd like to see Walt fling birds at them with his mind.

Don't be sorry...US Office will probably place higher.
― musically, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:13 (sixteen years ago)
This Yank voted of UK Office but not US, fwiw.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:13 (sixteen years ago)
intentional shit episode is the best theory i've ever heard about the show tbh
― modescalator (blueski), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:13 (sixteen years ago)
I like the U.S. Office more, possibly cos I don't find it as unbearably bleak as I did the U.K. version the first time I watched it.
― Drag Me to Hull (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:14 (sixteen years ago)
the only reason i watch u.s. office is cuzza steve carell. everyone else is pretty much a dud.
― scott seward, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:14 (sixteen years ago)
No way only Steve Carrell is worth it. I cant remember their names but old crazy dude who steals stuff is not dud for ex.
― Jibe, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:15 (sixteen years ago)
do not be fooled by their job descriptions
― do you want to be happier? (whatever), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:16 (sixteen years ago)
There's more jokes and they have more fun with the minor characters in the U.S. version. The thing that U.K versh has going for it most is Keith.

uh unless i am confused us office already placed much further down the list?
― PHEAR MY POORAPULT (jjjusten), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:17 (sixteen years ago)
Actually, I think the Jack's tats one might have been the last one they showed on Sky One before Virgin pulled the plug on it in the UK, and by the time I got hooked back up with Sky, I'd lost interest (yes, I know, torr3ntZors or whatever, that Jack's tats episode made me not want to bother).
The US Office better not get in above the UK one. I like it just fine, but it's not, y'know, proper great telly.
― ailsa, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:17 (sixteen years ago)
xpost, oh, did it place already? I am confused.
― ailsa, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:18 (sixteen years ago)
looking for the interview. probs just wrote a shit ep and then said 'yeah, meant to'.

The U.S. Office was number 20, guys.
― Drag Me to Hull (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:18 (sixteen years ago)
shit i missed it!
― musically, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:18 (sixteen years ago)
Also voted for US but not UK. I like both, but I saw the UK version so long ago. Also, the characters on the US version have grown on me over dozens of episodes.
― jaymc, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:18 (sixteen years ago)
The "happy" ending of the UK Office was total Gervais trying to be ingratiating cowardice imo.
― Drag Me to Hull (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:20 (sixteen years ago)
prefer Extras to UK Office, tbh.
― you just freaked out more than our director of lols (Pillbox), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:21 (sixteen years ago)
^seems kinda challopsy, but patrick stewart scene in the trailer might be the funniest scene of the decade imo
― The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:21 (sixteen years ago)
also you get v funny Stephen Merchant (and Barry Evans). Extras second series was just too stupid tho.

xxp
is this not because you found the rest of it unbearably bleak?
the ending makes sense - sometimes bleak losers have mini wins
― do you want to be happier? (whatever), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:23 (sixteen years ago)
I think my viewing of UK Office was dulled by having already seen the first season of the US, in which a lot of the same jokes/scenarios were recycled.
― you just freaked out more than our director of lols (Pillbox), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:23 (sixteen years ago)
ok the order of this is now totally baffling to me.

It feels like a failure of nerve in a programme that was almost wholly misanthropic all down the line.
― Drag Me to Hull (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:25 (sixteen years ago)
daily show - correspondents are not great these days, interviews have been getting shittier and shittier, somebody needs to drop rob riggle out of a plane
― PHEAR MY POORAPULT (jjjusten), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:26 (sixteen years ago)
^^^^ nonsense. yes there are plenty of funny corresponents, in fact they have better people there today than they did in the past imo.
guess I was the only 1st place voter.
― iatee, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:27 (sixteen years ago)
i did some statistical breakdown based on safe assumptions of the top few not yet posted, for some fun analysis of the 'ilx demographic'. by network, for the US shows:
HBO: 8 (incl. Ali G )FOX: 6NBC: 5UPN/WB/CW: 4Comedy Central: 4AMC: 2MTV/MTV2: 2CBS: 1ABC: 1FX, Starz, SyFy, Showtime, Bravo: 1 each
can't really be bothered to figure out the UK shows or if any weren't BBC or whatever, but there were 11 of those
― lindsay goham (some dude), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:27 (sixteen years ago)
i mean how many times have they done the "rob riggle in an inappropriate sleeveless shirt oh the laughter" joke?
xposts saying the current correspondents are better than ed helms/cobert is madness btw
― PHEAR MY POORAPULT (jjjusten), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:28 (sixteen years ago)
MADNESS!
By genre:
Hourlong dramas and dramedies: 21Half-hour live action sitcoms: 14Non-fiction/reality/unscripted/nature/variety/etc.: 8Animated: 6 Sketch: 2
― lindsay goham (some dude), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:28 (sixteen years ago)
ok its kinda pathetic that the top youtube results for daily show cramer are just other new shows talking about that episode and showing clips (i know you can watch it on the daily show site tho)
― modescalator (blueski), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:28 (sixteen years ago)
