i was pretty sure that lost was going to be in the number three spot TBH (edged out by arrested development and the wire)

xxxpost see i think that lost has actually been better for the last 2 seasons than any of the early ones

PHEAR MY POORAPULT (jjjusten), Thursday, 5 November 2009 22:55 (sixteen years ago)

some of the whammys on Press Your Luck were really funny.

sarahel, Thursday, 5 November 2009 22:55 (sixteen years ago)

I was ready to give up on Lost at some point in the third season, but I'm glad I stuck around, as it did improve drastically.

I fear for the last season, tho, tbh.

you just freaked out more than our director of lols (Pillbox), Thursday, 5 November 2009 22:55 (sixteen years ago)

i really liked this thread the first three days too. then today i kinda started losing interest. i like the early finish.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 November 2009 22:56 (sixteen years ago)

did you like this thread before it was cool?

musically, Thursday, 5 November 2009 22:56 (sixteen years ago)

^^i totally agree xxxp to justen. lost was my #3 i think but i was secretly hoping it would win

sonderangerbot, Thursday, 5 November 2009 22:56 (sixteen years ago)

jjusten you are awesome haha

lost was my #3, though my top 5 were almost interchangeable. it lost momentum in season 3 but then came back with a massive vengeance in s4 and has been just as great as ever.

musically is right though, the show is totally a plotting ponzi scheme, but then i totally don't care at this point, it has completely roped me in. and the ending will inevitably disappoint 90% of remaining viewers

Nhex, Thursday, 5 November 2009 22:57 (sixteen years ago)

Lost is the most infuriating/stupid show I've ever loved.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 5 November 2009 22:57 (sixteen years ago)

someone told me that ***************************** possible spoiler********************************* they get off the island and start time travelling? is this troo and could lost be any more batshit insane?

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 5 November 2009 22:57 (sixteen years ago)

spoiler yup unspoiler

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 5 November 2009 22:58 (sixteen years ago)

yeah the third season ended up losing a lot of people i think, which is really too bad because it was basically the transition from "hey we have no idea where any of this is going" to "ok put on the brakes and get everything worked out so we can finish this right" and those sort of seasons, while necessary, almost always drag.

um like piles of xposts

PHEAR MY POORAPULT (jjjusten), Thursday, 5 November 2009 22:58 (sixteen years ago)

Curb mostly sucks doodz. There is the odd time it is ridiculously, pissing yrself funny but usually I just want to punch the guy in his tits.

NEW PREDICTION ok so surprise showing of Ghost Hunters pushes Mad Men out of the running

PHEAR MY POORAPULT (jjjusten), Thursday, 5 November 2009 22:59 (sixteen years ago)

that was an incredibly massive spoiler.

here's the thing - the showrunners got to deal for a set number of seasons (6) about halfway through season 3. note then the pacing and quality of the show got immensely better at that point and has been pretty consistent since then, because they no longer were forced to introduce new characters constantly nor fit in stupid flashback episodes (hello jack's tattoo)

Nhex, Thursday, 5 November 2009 22:59 (sixteen years ago)

btw all yall trying to hold poor samuel hostage to sit in front of computer and dole out results for 10 and now 20 hours straight are nuts, let the guy just get it done

lindsay goham (some dude), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

my memory is pretty weak but season 3 was the one with kate in a cage right? that was slooow

sonderangerbot, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

Lost was my #1. It's frustrated me at times, sometimes quite a bit, but I haven't cared about any other show this decade as intensely as I've cared about Lost, especially measured in terms of how much I've theorized and argued about it with other people.

And yeah, even the producers of the show have admitted that Season 3 was a low point, but sometime in the middle of that season they were able to lock down an end date for the show, which enabled them to map things out more clearly for the remaining seasons.

jaymc, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

(many xposts)

jaymc, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

The third season really was shitty. An episode telling how this one guy got those silly tattoos is bound to bore people shitless. It's sad that they haf this third season cause most of my friends stopped waching from then on and refuse to believe me when I tell them it gets better.

Jibe, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:02 (sixteen years ago)

Was it the third season that contained the Nikki/Paulo subplot & the Sawyer/Kate/fish-biscuit drudgery? Ugh, yeah, that was dire.

you just freaked out more than our director of lols (Pillbox), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:02 (sixteen years ago)

3rd season finale was amazing

modescalator (blueski), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:02 (sixteen years ago)

Yup it's that season iirc. But I don't really want to remember it though.

Jibe, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

Ha, I think Jack's tattoo flashback was the last one I watched.

ailsa, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

i still like lost. don't get me wrong. it's maddening but also very entertaining.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

Agree that the finale was good. I seem to remember the first two three episodes being quite good, the final 3-4 too. The problem being there were 15 horrible ones in between.

Jibe, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

sopranos was my #1 u_u

a goon boy (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

Damon Lindelof:
As for the people in the cages, it's been pointed out to us recently that when we were writing that arc, basically we were trying to negotiate for an ending to the show. We ourselves as storytellers felt like we were trapped in cages. And the story could not progress until it was progressing toward something.

jaymc, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:04 (sixteen years ago)

xposts: yeah, it was just the 23 or so eps before the finale that dragged a little.

you just freaked out more than our director of lols (Pillbox), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:04 (sixteen years ago)

my number one is still coming up. i think.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:04 (sixteen years ago)

Another thing that has nothing to do with plot that bothered me about Lost was the fact that every single character was utterly loathsome. And I stopped watching before Nikki/Paolo who everyone seems to bring up as the worst of the worst.

musically, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:05 (sixteen years ago)

7. The Office U.K. (37 votes, 1 first place vote, 5040 points.)

modescalator (blueski), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:07 (sixteen years ago)

Not all characters are loathsome. Just those you see all the time like Jack and Kate for ex. Guys like Desmond are really not loathsome.

Jibe, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:07 (sixteen years ago)

Sayid and Sawyer not loathsome. Also, Hurley.

ailsa, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:08 (sixteen years ago)

Don't forget Walt. And the horse.

you just freaked out more than our director of lols (Pillbox), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:09 (sixteen years ago)

if you hate hurley or desmond, i don't know what to tell you, brother

Nhex, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:09 (sixteen years ago)

there is a horse? or did sarah jessica parker finally get another job post-sex and the city?

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:10 (sixteen years ago)

controversy time: i didn't vote for Office UK but Office US was my #25

Nhex, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:10 (sixteen years ago)

Jack's Tattoo episode was written to be shit, to prove to the network that they needed to set an end date to tell the story instead of continually dragging on. Now the show is infinitely better (I would say it picks up about 6 episodes before the ending of season 3 and never really stops), but the downside is they lost ailsa.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:10 (sixteen years ago)

(I'm only basing my non-loathsomeness on what I've seen up to the middle of season 3, obviously. They might have turned into right bastards since then)

xpost, they might get me back one day, when I stop devoting all my time to shit that no-one else watches like Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

ailsa, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:11 (sixteen years ago)

Oh, I didnt know they did it on purpose, making it shit. They were really successful at achieving what they intended to!

u.k. office was so great. and way better than u.s. version. sorry yankees!

scott seward, Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:12 (sixteen years ago)

Don't think they intentionally wrote a shit episode to make a studio give them less episodes. More episodes, more repeats, more syndication money to make them bazillionaires. Throwing in one or two filler episodes not really done to show that television companies don't know what they are doing - the show makers should have already been focussed if that was the case.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 5 November 2009 23:13 (sixteen years ago)

Re: Rose/Bernard (from the Lost, Season 6 thread)

Call me cold hearted, but I kinda hope that Rose & Bernard have been sucked into some black hole vacuum & remain there for the rest of the series.

See, I would rather watch them die, personally.

I'd like to see Walt fling birds at them with his mind.

Don't be sorry...US Office will probably place higher.

This Yank voted of UK Office but not US, fwiw.

intentional shit episode is the best theory i've ever heard about the show tbh
