Lost my #2 but probably should've been my #1 considering its the only show i've seen every episode of before UK broadcast. Nothing else to say that hasn't already been said I guess. Can't fucking wait for the final season (inc more moaning about stupid Kate and Jack no doubt).

I just bought Dudu and Lost sucks.

speaking of shows that lost momentum...I don't remember when I stopped watching Lost but at one point I just had to quit. I have heard that it improved but it seemed to me at that point like the writers were just employing some sort of ponzi plot scheme, resolving crazy plot lines by throwing in even crazier twists.

i watched every single episode of lost and then i missed the finale last year cuz i wasn't home and i still haven't watched it. i think i just start to get bored after three years of ANYTHING these days.

I got three years in then just realised I really didn't care any more.

i was pretty sure that lost was going to be in the number three spot TBH (edged out by arrested development and the wire)

some of the whammys on Press Your Luck were really funny.

I was ready to give up on Lost at some point in the third season, but I'm glad I stuck around, as it did improve drastically.

I fear for the last season, tho, tbh.

lost was my #3, though my top 5 were almost interchangeable. it lost momentum in season 3 but then came back with a massive vengeance in s4 and has been just as great as ever.

musically is right though, the show is totally a plotting ponzi scheme, but then i totally don't care at this point, it has completely roped me in. and the ending will inevitably disappoint 90% of remaining viewers

yeah the third season ended up losing a lot of people i think, which is really too bad because it was basically the transition from "hey we have no idea where any of this is going" to "ok put on the brakes and get everything worked out so we can finish this right" and those sort of seasons, while necessary, almost always drag.

that was an incredibly massive spoiler.

here's the thing - the showrunners got to deal for a set number of seasons (6) about halfway through season 3. note then the pacing and quality of the show got immensely better at that point and has been pretty consistent since then, because they no longer were forced to introduce new characters constantly nor fit in stupid flashback episodes (hello jack's tattoo)

btw all yall trying to hold poor samuel hostage to sit in front of computer and dole out results for 10 and now 20 hours straight are nuts, let the guy just get it done

Lost was my #1. It's frustrated me at times, sometimes quite a bit, but I haven't cared about any other show this decade as intensely as I've cared about Lost, especially measured in terms of how much I've theorized and argued about it with other people.

And yeah, even the producers of the show have admitted that Season 3 was a low point, but sometime in the middle of that season they were able to lock down an end date for the show, which enabled them to map things out more clearly for the remaining seasons.

The third season really was shitty. An episode telling how this one guy got those silly tattoos is bound to bore people shitless. It's sad that they haf this third season cause most of my friends stopped waching from then on and refuse to believe me when I tell them it gets better.

Was it the third season that contained the Nikki/Paulo subplot & the Sawyer/Kate/fish-biscuit drudgery? Ugh, yeah, that was dire.

Agree that the finale was good. I seem to remember the first two three episodes being quite good, the final 3-4 too. The problem being there were 15 horrible ones in between.

As for the people in the cages, it's been pointed out to us recently that when we were writing that arc, basically we were trying to negotiate for an ending to the show. We ourselves as storytellers felt like we were trapped in cages. And the story could not progress until it was progressing toward something.

Another thing that has nothing to do with plot that bothered me about Lost was the fact that every single character was utterly loathsome. And I stopped watching before Nikki/Paolo who everyone seems to bring up as the worst of the worst.

Not all characters are loathsome. Just those you see all the time like Jack and Kate for ex. Guys like Desmond are really not loathsome.

Jack's Tattoo episode was written to be shit, to prove to the network that they needed to set an end date to tell the story instead of continually dragging on. Now the show is infinitely better (I would say it picks up about 6 episodes before the ending of season 3 and never really stops), but the downside is they lost ailsa.

(I'm only basing my non-loathsomeness on what I've seen up to the middle of season 3, obviously. They might have turned into right bastards since then)
