Looking over the list, the only thing I really have any problem with is Gilmore Girls scoring so low. Although some of the reactions in this thread would seem to suggest that the WB marketing team should have tried some different strategies in order to differentiate GG from the rest of their programming. Like a different name, for a start? Seems like a lot of people who probably would have liked the show were put off by thinking the show was something other than what it was.

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:07 (sixteen years ago)

Also a little surprised by Doctor Who scoring as high as it did. I watched the first two series of the revamp and enjoyed them, but not enough to put it on my ballot. Plus, I guess it's just hard for me to think of Who as a 2000s series.

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:09 (sixteen years ago)

I always thought Gilmore Girls and Smallville would be much improved by having writing teams switch.

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:09 (sixteen years ago)

Does anyone disagree with that list, though? At least 8 or so are an absolute lock.

Nope, I think you've got it. The several people rooting for American Idol made me think that that could sneak onto the list, but it's hard to imagine any of the shows you listed not placing at all.

jaymc, Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:11 (sixteen years ago)

Probably the correct placing for Dr. Who. It was in my top ten, but partly out of affection and having grown up with the old incarnation - it's probably been too patchy in the 00s to make an objective top ten (which is not to say that when it's good it's not very good).

OK Abacus (chap), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:14 (sixteen years ago)

I feel like Curb Your Enthusiasm could make it. I imagine it as the sort of show that a lot of people put in the 10th-best range, not a lot of top fives.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:14 (sixteen years ago)

Could miss the list, rather.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:14 (sixteen years ago)

I totally forgot to put Curb in my ballot! Probably would've been 20-10.

I'm positive that all of my 'xxx'-es are gonna place.

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:18 (sixteen years ago)

Aww, I guess I have to accept that Sex & The City (my #4) didn't make it. I'm already at peace with the notion that SYTYCD (my #1) didn't make it. The rest of my picks have either showed up or will, I'm quite sure...

Paul in Santa Cruz, Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:20 (sixteen years ago)

Best seasons of the decade, anyone? I know for a fact that I've trumpeted these elsewhere (and possibly in this thread), but Buffy season 5, The Wire season 4, and Deadwood season 3 constitute maybe the most engrossing television I've ever seen.

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:21 (sixteen years ago)

xxxp Maybe there's a lot of people like me, who basically thought Gilmore Girls was sorta fun but way way way too irritatingly cutesy and smug and untrustworthy in the way it tried to pack so many words striving for clever knowingness into the mom-and-daughter dialogue all the time. (Or maybe I'm alone in that, though I doubt it. Still liked it enough to rank it #15 regardless.)

xhuxk, Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:22 (sixteen years ago)

I'll bet Sex And The City fell just below 50. I'm a little puzzled that it didn't make it, honestly.

You clearly have good taste, polyphonic. :)

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:24 (sixteen years ago)

so in the 21st century dr. who they got cool guy in leather who and then they went for harry potter looking whos. what's up with that?

basically cool leather guy quit after one season like a fule but the upshot was that they could get a "sexier" younger to replace him and do the companion romance thing (altho this actually turned out pretty stupid thanks to bad writing). they were both great for totally different reasons tho.

you can watch all of the best Doctor Who episode 'Blink' on youtube

Buffy season 5, The Wire season 4, Futurama season 4, Arrested Development first 2 seasons, first season of 30 Rock, season 2 of HIMYM, first season of Veronica Mars, Freaks and Geeks, current season of Mad Men, the Amstell years on Nevermind the Buzzcocks <--- one of them.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:25 (sixteen years ago)

can't argue with any of those. Mad Men Season 2 over the current one, but maybe I should wait for the finale to make a judgment.

InBetweeners beating Skins is kind of a shame.

Just catching up with the last half of the Party Down season (which I never got around to before), and I'm suddenly getting all the Caplan love.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:28 (sixteen years ago)

couldn't really pick one season of gilmore girls because all the episodes have kind of mashed into 1 in my head- 3rd maybe? and ditto sorkin-era west wing.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:28 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, there are some shows like Gilmore Girls that don't utilize seasons quite so much like new chapters/acts as other shows do.

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:31 (sixteen years ago)

second season of West Wing

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:32 (sixteen years ago)

enjoying the list but totally ridic that 24 and (presumably, altho i can see it in place of F&G maybe) The Shield aren't here

modescalator (blueski), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:33 (sixteen years ago)

haha voting 24 out is a referendum on the Bush regime.

Philip Nunez, Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:35 (sixteen years ago)

S2 of Breaking Bad is pretty high up there.

OK Abacus (chap), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:35 (sixteen years ago)

hmm, i may have to download it then. i was kind of scared that after the last episode of season one it would kind of become BALD SCARFACE.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:38 (sixteen years ago)

Based on the low thread activity, I think it is safe to assume that we Shield stans are an enlightened minority. I'll totally go to bat for it as being on par w/ The Sopranos, Deadwood, Mad Men, Lost & The Wire (& I'd say Breaking Bad) as one of the best serial dramas of the 00s. Esp. the last season, but that is a thing unto itself. Then again, I forgot to vote in this, so I can't really complain too much.

you just freaked out more than our director of lols (Pillbox), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:39 (sixteen years ago)

pretty sure 24 is going to place

caek, Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:40 (sixteen years ago)

i was kind of scared that after the last episode of season one it would kind of become BALD SCARFACE.

Well that's not too far off, but it does that in a very patient and convincing way. As I've said before, it's a good couple of notches up on S1.

OK Abacus (chap), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:41 (sixteen years ago)

current season of Mad Men

I feel this has been the weakest season actually - it's a tad tonally inconsistent, and maybe the charm of the sluggish, tangential storytelling is wearing off a bit. It would have benefited from a larger time jump between seasons I think. Still love it though.

OK Abacus (chap), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:46 (sixteen years ago)

I think 'leisurely' would be a better adjective than 'sluggish' there, actually.

OK Abacus (chap), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:47 (sixteen years ago)

Shield is another show I tried to watch a few times, but always turned it off at some point.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:48 (sixteen years ago)

Same here.

OK Abacus (chap), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:48 (sixteen years ago)

I haven't watched either of the previous two seasons of Mad Men (I did watch episodes 1-3 of season 1 and decided to skip ahead for various reasons), but still voted for it in this poll based on what I've seen of S3. Really enjoying it a lot.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:49 (sixteen years ago)

The Shield does slog here and there, but if you are willing to stick it out until the end, it does pay off in spades.

you just freaked out more than our director of lols (Pillbox), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:50 (sixteen years ago)

Bummed about no Damages.

Mordy, Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:51 (sixteen years ago)

no Soup sux too.

you just freaked out more than our director of lols (Pillbox), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:53 (sixteen years ago)

The Shield, 24, Damages, Sex And The City, Strangers With Candy, The Soup, SNL, and Eastbound And Down are probably all residing somewhere just below #50.

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:53 (sixteen years ago)

No The O.C. either, but I guess I'm less surprised about that.

Mordy, Thursday, 5 November 2009 19:54 (sixteen years ago)

lots of stuff i voted for didn't make it. i wonder if i'm the only person who voted for once & again. that was my number three, i think. what can i say, i'm a girl. i wish i could afford complete gilmore girls boxed sets. even on sale across the street the whole series would cost me 100+.

scott seward, Thursday, 5 November 2009 20:22 (sixteen years ago)
