I couldn't get into PD. I admired it but didn't enjoy watching it.

Straight guys have a lot to lust over PD. For one, it has more cleavage and upskirts than any other prime time show. We just have to get over our aversion to burnt orange and avocado.

yeah personally i was just more into Chenoweth

Oh, forgot she was in it. She's way cute in the West Wing.

darraghmac, if father ted had been in the 2000s it would have been way way up there for me. also ENBB super OTM about the gay musical episode, its great.
― PHEAR MY POORAPULT (jjjusten), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 19:45 (sixteen years ago)
I recommend Dayman, fighter of the Nightman. Champion of the sun.
― Mordy, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 19:46 (sixteen years ago)
Father Ted would most probably be up there with [HIGHEST RANKING BRITISHER SHOW] if it made it into this decade.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 19:47 (sixteen years ago)
How many episodes of Father Ted before you are allowed to decide?
― Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 19:49 (sixteen years ago)
You should find FT hysterical from the first episode becasue it's one of the best imo. SPIDER BABY.
I had to take a break from Father Ted because I watched it so much it started to get old. I think I'll be ok with it now though.
JJusten - the look on the Irish guy's (can't remember his name rn) face while they're lifting him into the van absolutely kills me.
― bear say hi to me (ENBB), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 19:50 (sixteen years ago)
it took me 35 episodes of our you being served before i finally got into it.
― scott seward, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 19:51 (sixteen years ago)
haha enbb that is exactly the moment i was going to mention in my post!
― PHEAR MY POORAPULT (jjjusten), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 19:52 (sixteen years ago)
I'll admit to being super let down by Alan Partridge so Father Ted is wobbly territory already.
― Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 19:54 (sixteen years ago)
idk. I like both but they're very different so I'd give it a whirl if I were you.
― bear say hi to me (ENBB), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 19:56 (sixteen years ago)
they are totally different, but the fact that alan partridge didnt do it for you makes me sad.
― PHEAR MY POORAPULT (jjjusten), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 19:59 (sixteen years ago)
will dawn french be represented in any way on this poll? we only get the vicar here but she's probably been in a zillion other things that don't make it here. (i like her. maybe ilx or all of the u.k. hates her though. i don't know what her reputation is.)
― scott seward, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 20:02 (sixteen years ago)
I only saw half of an episode of Alan Partridge, but the ad copy on the DVD box made it sound like Jesus came back just to watch this show, and I'm thinking He should have waited for Nathan Barley.
― Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 20:06 (sixteen years ago)
I think Dawn French is kind of 'glad she is on the telly, usually she picks good shows, would be sad to stop seeing her on television but don't love her or think of her as a national treasure or anything'.
Search: Psychoville from this year was great. Destroy: Lark Rise To Whateveritwascalled.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 20:06 (sixteen years ago)
I think Dawn French is mostly awful, but I am very much not representative of UKILX (I had Dawson's Creek on my poll, ffs)
― ailsa, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 20:14 (sixteen years ago)
If only it was Jen's Creek where she warns the world of scientology ;_;

Father Ted, Blackadder, and (the rest of) Faulty Towers are my most egregious "classic British shows not yet watched" crimes. I am slowly wading through the Chris Morris/Steve Coogan showography in dribs and drabs.

irish guy's name is chris o'dowd. one of the first things my best friend's girlfriend mentions to anyone is that she can't remember if she shagged him at college or not, which delights him every time.

x-post You won't be sorry. It is REALLY funny and I'm entirely not sold on the show in general either. I do, however, love the guy on the IT crowd who played Dixon Bainbridge on the Boosh. Oh crap . . . the Douglas Renholm actor whose name is totally escaping me. He's great.

Omar if you're gonig to start posting FT clips we may have to take it to the FT thread cause I could get on board with that but it might ruin this one.
I'm watching the first episode and think I would find this funnier without the laugh track insisting which parts are funny. Is this laugh track some evil US-imposed tariff?

Can't Place His Name Guy in the picture is Matt Berry. His version of the 'Sorry' theme tune on Charlie Brooker makes his entire existence worthwhile.

start w/ the hypnotism episode
― PHEAR MY POORAPULT (jjjusten), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 21:11 (sixteen years ago)
actually scratch that, you pretty much have to watch it in order to really enjoy the unraveling of the show, esp the worsening of his relationship with the bandleader which is one of the best parts imo
― PHEAR MY POORAPULT (jjjusten), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 21:12 (sixteen years ago)
just thinking about all the great tv (based on recommendations here and from others i'd listen to) i have left to watch, and how little time i get to watch tv, and it strikes me as even weirder that dr who is going to place on this list.

Nathan Barley got nominated. Daily Show is closest to Day Today though? But real? <--- no indication of whether either placed or not btw.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 21:31 (sixteen years ago)
oh right. decades.
― luol deng (am0n), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 21:31 (sixteen years ago)
The Day Today was '90s, you're right. Brass Eye was 1999 and then again in 2001.
