Scott: Want to bet on that?

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 17:55 (sixteen years ago)

Mr. Que: I thought it was amusing in parts; overall, I think I just wasn't on its wavelength.

jaymc, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 17:57 (sixteen years ago)

okay, i'll make an exception just this once. i don't hate ilxors who like the west wing. and i don't hate my mother-in-law or her wife. but i hate everyone else. like your mom, probably.

scott seward, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 17:57 (sixteen years ago)

so far 7 shows from my ballot have appeared, and i figure at least 5 or as many as 10 are still to come, i really have no idea at this point

some dude, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 17:57 (sixteen years ago)

I'm genuinely pretty surprised that Planet Earth and Chappelle's Show placed so low.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 17:58 (sixteen years ago)

"Scott: Want to bet on that?"

hmmmm, really? okay, then i will stand corrected. just figured they were my sentimental faves and would get forgotten.

scott seward, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 17:58 (sixteen years ago)

Only 5 of mine have made it so far but that's okay - i knew abt 10 of them weren't that huge on ilx anyway. just happy that Party Down made it.

Roz, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 17:59 (sixteen years ago)

i'm guessing i should see planet earth, huh? should i watch it stoned after i watch half-baked?

scott seward, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 17:59 (sixteen years ago)

scott all the qualities that i assumed you hated West Wing for went out the window when i realized you love Gilmore Girls

some dude, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 17:59 (sixteen years ago)

x-post - yes.

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:00 (sixteen years ago)

party down is another one that completely passed me by. does everyone just watch it via netflix or something? it's on starz, right? who has starz?

scott seward, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:00 (sixteen years ago)

nah, i'm fucking with you. those shows possibly make it!

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:00 (sixteen years ago)

i have Starz and i watched Party Down on Starz -- but yeah it was actually streaming on Netflix way before it was even out on DVD so i think it got a lot of exposure that way

some dude, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:01 (sixteen years ago)

Party Down is available on Netflix's Watch Instantly, if you have that.

"scott all the qualities that i assumed you hated West Wing for went out the window when i realized you love Gilmore Girls"

i adore whit stillman, preston sturges, and i bought 30something season one dvd the day it came out. you do the math.

scott seward, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:02 (sixteen years ago)

i'm guessing i should see planet earth, huh? should i watch it stoned after i watch half-baked?

You don't have to watch it baked (but it doesn't hurt), but definitely make sure to watch with Attenborough's narration, which is much better imo.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:02 (sixteen years ago)

Scott - If you can get your hands on the English version of Planet Earth it's better because the narration is done by David Attenborough whereas the American is Sigourney Weaver who isn't as good imo.

Yeah, I watched PD on netflix.

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:03 (sixteen years ago)

lol x-post

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:03 (sixteen years ago)

interesting that House is the only procedural that's placed so far (unless one of the Brit shows i know nothing about is one too) -- not counting The Wire, i'm not sure any others will be in the top 20. maybe L&O and The Shield? surely not CSI.

some dude, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:04 (sixteen years ago)

Why did they change it? It's the same language...

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:04 (sixteen years ago)

stuff i voted for that has charted so far:

futurama, flight of the conchords, family guy, gillette soccer saturday, breaking bad, jackass, the simpsons, oz, da ali g show.

none of my top 10 apart from futurama have appeared yet. i have totally mainstream ilx canon taste and expect the other 9 to be in the top 15.

caek, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:04 (sixteen years ago)

p.s. the west wing is worse than paedophiles.

caek, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:04 (sixteen years ago)

Think that imo is unnecessary, Attenborough being the emperor of wildlife narration is as close to a cast-iron fact as you can get.

OK Abacus (chap), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:06 (sixteen years ago)

Stuff I voted for that has appeared so far (and the points I allotted):

210 Planet Earth
180 Chappelle's Show
150 Jackass
140 Battlestar Galactica
60 Project Runway
50 Wonder Showzen
10 It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:06 (sixteen years ago)

The Wire is not a procedural! I really can't think of any others that will place, unless the L&O love I've witnessed on other threads comes through.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:06 (sixteen years ago)

The West Wing's sort of procedural, isn't it? If politics counts as a thing with procedure.

Britain doesn't do procedurals very well, by and large.

ailsa, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:07 (sixteen years ago)

poly, darragh will be your friend.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:07 (sixteen years ago)

"scott all the qualities that i assumed you hated West Wing for went out the window when i realized you love Gilmore Girls"

i was gonna say similar! i thought it was mainly the 'schmaltz' factor affecting both

modescalator (blueski), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:07 (sixteen years ago)

Think that imo is unnecessary

Some Americans I've met prefer the Weaver narration for some ungodly reason. I guess they aren't so familiar with DA.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:07 (sixteen years ago)

Or they're just wrong.

i know it's not, but sometimes it gets that tag, which is why i made the "not counting" caveat

some dude, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:09 (sixteen years ago)

too right, but my pedantry will not be denied it's place in the public forum

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:10 (sixteen years ago)

i haven't seen the Attenborough version but the Weaver narration suited me well enough. what really annoyed me was played out ol' James Earl Jones in the theatrical Earth flick -- really wanted to see the version with Patrick Stewart narrating instead.

some dude, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:10 (sixteen years ago)

did you just call The Wire a procedural?

musically, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:10 (sixteen years ago)

...

some dude, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:11 (sixteen years ago)

k3vin k., Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:13 (sixteen years ago)

I didn't put Breaking Bad high enough.

caek, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:14 (sixteen years ago)

TOP TWENTY FACTZ:

Only 2 more shows under 3000 points.
7 shows left without #1 votes.
Only 2 more shows under 20 votes.
[THIS SHOW] and [THAT SHOW] don't make it.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:15 (sixteen years ago)

I know Planet Earth isn't intended for kids, so this is just a data point, but I was watching some obviously American ("crossword puzzle", brownstones, etc.) animated young children's TV show which had been dubbed with regional british accents.

caek, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:15 (sixteen years ago)

I've never even heard of Breaking Bad. It's on my list now.

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:16 (sixteen years ago)

17. How I Met Your Mother
16. Thick of It
15. West Wing
10. Battlestar Galactica
9. Friday Night Lights

So far, those from my list.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:16 (sixteen years ago)

Um, not that I have an actual list but you know.

bear say hi to me (ENBB), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:17 (sixteen years ago)

scott seward, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:18 (sixteen years ago)

scott seward, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:19 (sixteen years ago)

xhuxk, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:22 (sixteen years ago)

modescalator (blueski), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:23 (sixteen years ago)

I've never even heard of Breaking Bad.

Bryan Cranston's won two straight Emmys for it!

jaymc, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:23 (sixteen years ago)

It's like Mad Men but with meth.
