My bday is the same day as Aaron W, and if we are lucky Siouxie Sioux will be playing that day; I know, I never spell that right.

Virgo Mary (Mary), Thursday, 24 June 2004 22:59 (nineteen years ago) link

siouxsie? where where where? I hope so!

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 24 June 2004 22:59 (nineteen years ago) link

are you trying to tell us something gabbneb? Either about yourself or Log Cabin Republicans?

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:00 (nineteen years ago) link

Mary's bday AND Siouxie Siouxxxe. Best Bday evah.

info here: http://www.thecreatures.com/creatures/?view=96&offset=0&length=5

I wonder if tickets are still available. If people are going on the 6th, I am up for going on the 6th as well.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:03 (nineteen years ago) link

you people still don't get that NYC will be partially destroyed by then, I guess.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:04 (nineteen years ago) link

I was waiting until someone who lived there said it so I wasn't accused of being all negative, h.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:05 (nineteen years ago) link

will the hotel rooms be cheaper after the TERROR?

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:05 (nineteen years ago) link

I work 2 blocks from Ground Zero, what do you expect?

Also, if you and your wife go down there to take pictures during your vacation, I will be very disappointed in you.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:06 (nineteen years ago) link

we've been there twice since the first terror and we only go by there to go to century 21

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:07 (nineteen years ago) link

kyle it'll be like Escape from New York - they won't let you leave.

l to r: kyle, me.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:07 (nineteen years ago) link

that looks just like me!

i will be referring to everything as "the terror" from now on, btw.

kyle (akmonday), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:08 (nineteen years ago) link

1997 is long overdue.

xpost - good, Century 21 is great, taking pictures at Ground Zero is ghoulish.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:08 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm wearing pants like that while I'm out in Williamsburg tonight.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:08 (nineteen years ago) link

hstencil! i heard you were dead!

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:11 (nineteen years ago) link

I just called BB King: tickets are on sale and still available for all nights:)

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:12 (nineteen years ago) link

they take Visa, right?

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:13 (nineteen years ago) link

Dude, it's everywhere you want to be.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:15 (nineteen years ago) link

except the Chicago House of Blues.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:16 (nineteen years ago) link

Hotels.com has The Pennsylvania at $109/night. They were in the midst of renovations last time I was there so it was a sucky shithole, but that was 4 years ago.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:35 (nineteen years ago) link

See also Priceline.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:38 (nineteen years ago) link

uh, I really don't think he wants to stay there, given the sentiments expressed upthread

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:41 (nineteen years ago) link

I've stayed there twice; the first time (1992) it was actaully pretty nice, but the second time (2000) it, well, wasn't, but they were fixing it up. The fact that it's still around leads me to hope that they've finished their renovations but it's listed in hotels.com as a 2-star.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:48 (nineteen years ago) link

it might be very nice, but it's also across the street from the Republican National Convention

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:51 (nineteen years ago) link

Details.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 24 June 2004 23:52 (nineteen years ago) link

Kyle, you asked about the Pioneer Soho when you revived this thang. I stayed there in May of '03 and it was nice enough.

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Friday, 25 June 2004 00:07 (nineteen years ago) link

you won't even be able to get near MSG so staying at the Penn is out.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 25 June 2004 00:08 (nineteen years ago) link

Isn't the Penn next to Penn Station, not MSG?

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 25 June 2004 00:12 (nineteen years ago) link

Sorry, pretend I didn't make that last post. MSG != Grand Central Station.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 25 June 2004 00:12 (nineteen years ago) link

supposedly they're gonna close down Penn Station.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 25 June 2004 05:46 (nineteen years ago) link

Sorry, I can't read, when will these fuckers be out of our city?

Mary (Mary), Friday, 25 June 2004 06:16 (nineteen years ago) link

the 2nd! the RNC will not affect me.

kyle (akmonday), Friday, 25 June 2004 06:53 (nineteen years ago) link

bullshit they won't.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:44 (nineteen years ago) link

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 25 June 2004 15:08 (nineteen years ago) link

one year passes...
How late into the year is it reasonably cool (70s-80s daytime avg) in New York? Is the weather nice the first couple of weeks in May?

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Monday, 6 March 2006 21:50 (eighteen years ago) link

average temps here

Fall beats Spring in the Northeast, and the weather will be unpredictable, but it's unlikely to be too hot or too cold. If you can't come September through early November, this is a pretty good time.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 6 March 2006 22:02 (eighteen years ago) link

I thought we made it clear that under no circumstances are grown men to wear shorts.

senseiDancer (sexyDancer), Monday, 6 March 2006 22:04 (eighteen years ago) link

it's in between the end of the high-culture indoor season and the great free outdoor stuff, but those probably aren't high priorities for a first-time visitor. baseball, of course, but get tickets now, I would think.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 6 March 2006 22:05 (eighteen years ago) link

xpost - Gracias. It's a long-shot, but fall is unlikely because of school and work and I'm hoping to get a trip in before the temperature approaches anything hot.

Baseball-wise, I'm hoping to catch a game with the Single-A team in Brooklyn.

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Monday, 6 March 2006 22:09 (eighteen years ago) link

they won't start until mid-June

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 6 March 2006 22:12 (eighteen years ago) link

oops, I didn't realize they were a short-season affiliate. Guess I'll think about that some other time.

Erick Dampier is better than Shaq (miloaukerman), Monday, 6 March 2006 22:17 (eighteen years ago) link

yes, NYC can get pretty muggy in the summer, and yes there are summers where we regularly get up into the 90s, but summer arguably is the second-best season to visit given all the outdoor stuff going on. May is still probably a very good time to visit, but I wouldn't write June, July or even August off. then again, I wear shorts and sandals with impunity in those months. (I wear 3-season wool suits then too, but I won't say I don't sweat)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 6 March 2006 22:18 (eighteen years ago) link

I mean, we're not talking Austin or Phoenix here

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 6 March 2006 22:20 (eighteen years ago) link

the New Haven County Cutters will be playing at historic Yale Field (real old baseball vibe here) by Memorial Day weekend

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 6 March 2006 22:23 (eighteen years ago) link

two years pass...

last week in August, Monday to Monday, staying at the Clarion Park Avenue (looked at Chelsea Hostel private rooms, but they require a passport and

I should totally do this, right?

milo z, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 01:59 (fifteen years ago) link

i assume you don't need to be glued to the TV during the Dem convention

lots of people leave town around then, but for some people that might be a good thing

gabbneb, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 02:06 (fifteen years ago) link

Dude.. New budget hotel options..

The Jane Hotel

Same owners as Bowery Hotel, The Park, The Maritime. Budget hotel, "hip" rooms, free wifi, Ipod station, COMMUNAL BATHROOMS though. Rooms supposed to be extra-cheap for NYC. I'd totally stay there. Just opened some rooms for preview this summer. Not sure if they're renting rooms yet, but keep an eye out. Rooms for under $100, def.

Also, there's the new POD HOTEL
