I disagree strongly. SF lit>>>>screen SF, though.

sci-fi tv dramas suck is probably the more correct statement.
― banned of bros. (darraghmac), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:23 (sixteen years ago)
you can include vampires in there too if it's not a given
I never saw Children Of Men. I did try reading Gravity's Rainbow once but fuck that shit.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:24 (sixteen years ago)
Is there any kind of link between the two?
― OK Abacus (chap), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:25 (sixteen years ago)
Not really an ideal entry into sci-fi title tbh xp
― Large Hadron Collander (onimo), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:26 (sixteen years ago)
I have no idea. Someone bought up CoM and you bought up scifilit, of which i couldn't be fucked with. /inane statement.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:26 (sixteen years ago)
sci-fi is great apart from all the "human interest" shite. there.
i think i put BSG 15th or so - avoided it for ages but then when i finally gave it a go i was immediately hooked and didn't let go until 4th season (3rd was patchy tho yes). even now i kinda want to watch THE PLAN based on the trailer i saw.

Really? I thought it was supposed to be like the freaking Shakespeare of it all?

CoM love seconded.
― OK Abacus (chap), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:28 (sixteen years ago)
CoM added to lovefilm list and to be watched presuming I ever watch and send back Knowing and... whatever my other film is.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:30 (sixteen years ago)
That Sinking Feeling. Bloody Scots with their posh overdubbing. Really should send that back.
CoM is brilliant, in a poll for best sci fi movies ever on ILX it would no doubt easily make the top 100, with the original buffy movie landing the top spot behind seinfeld: the movie: sci-fi, am i riiiight?

Next entry is the first to get 20 votes. And it kicks Battlestar Gaylactica's arse.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:33 (sixteen years ago)
i never even really considered it sci-fi. not sure what i'd call it instead tho.

I think Erica sadface is enough to make me get it off my shelf again. (That and I've spent the past week not knowing what book to read next so any excuse to finally pick something.)

(using only emoticons is proving quite effective but effortless. i like it)
Favourite episodes probably the obvious choices ie The Sting and the aforementioned ones with Fry's dog and Fry's brother. Bender's Big Score was an excellent comeback I thought.
― modescalator (blueski), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:41 (sixteen years ago)
Clearly, I am watching all of the wrong shows.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:41 (sixteen years ago)
wow, expected to see that higher but i guess people don't like the later seasons?
Is that true? I guess I assumed it was because a lot of people haven't seen it, even though its fans are super-devoted.
― jaymc, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:42 (sixteen years ago)
Going totally off-topic to say: I never finished Gravity's Rainbow, either. But as evidenced by my reaction to a number of shows in this poll and my life as a whole, I'm not terribly good at finishing things as a general rule.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:43 (sixteen years ago)
Love the Star Trek episode of Futurama too.
― modescalator (blueski), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:43 (sixteen years ago)

― banned of bros. (darraghmac), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:43 (sixteen years ago)
Futurama most probably provided the most quotables between me and my friends of all the shows on the list. Doesn't help that none of the fuckers have seen anything decent though- after i watched this weeks mad men i had a facebook update about Kennedy getting shot and i got like 10 replies about whether i was spoilering neighbours.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:44 (sixteen years ago)
3 more d-mizzle.
I only just found this thread. How many are you doing a day?
― bear say hi to me (ENBB), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:44 (sixteen years ago)
have taken your suggestion and started spacing them out more. :P
Again, haven't watched enough Futurama to make any worthwhile comment about it, but I was amused by a random episode I saw wherein they fought some war against a planet of ball creatures or something? And when they won, the newspaper headline said "Balls Thoroughly Licked"? I larfed.

I just looked through a list of Futurama epsodes to pick some favourites, and couldn't; so much gold.
― OK Abacus (chap), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:45 (sixteen years ago)
Isn't Trayce a huge Futurama stan, too? I watched the first few episodes of Futurama back in '97 or whenever and enjoyed them but felt like I didn't really need another Simpsons in my life, even if it was The Simpsons: In Space! (I get the feeling it may have set itself apart after a while, though?)
― jaymc, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:45 (sixteen years ago)
spacing planet earth so far from no 1 was a bit misguided imo, but otherwise another vote of thanks for the good work
― banned of bros. (darraghmac), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:46 (sixteen years ago)
Futurama at its best is as good as the best Simpsons imo.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:46 (sixteen years ago)
i always wanted futurama to be better...then i thought it was. i've actually enjoyed family guy time-travel more and i'm not even a big family guy guy.

well, there's SO many shows already on this list or still to come that are on cable and/or seem to have relatively small but devoted fanbases, i don't think that really says anything. plus it would only take 20 or 30 devoted fans on ILX for it to place higher, which i kind of assumed it had.
― some dude, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:48 (sixteen years ago)
Ok, we all done with the sci-fi hour? On to #23...
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:49 (sixteen years ago)
i watched a few episodes of Futurama early on and then dismissed it for years, but then marrying a big fan of the show and it being in reruns all the time has won me over, it's definitely very much its own show (waaaay more than, say, American Dad/Family Guy, although that kinda goes without saying)
