Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:25 (sixteen years ago)

jk.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:26 (sixteen years ago)

yeah let's start doing that

banned of bros. (darraghmac), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:28 (sixteen years ago)

I'm not sure Chappelle was on over here in britisher land but yeah, i assume it has been watched online by a fuck load of people.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:33 (sixteen years ago)

FX showed it for a while.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:35 (sixteen years ago)

Even though I've never watched it, FX starting to become my favourite channel.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:35 (sixteen years ago)

wanted to do a lame immaletyoufinish on A Hoy Hoy after this low ranking Planet Earth travesty but then check and I only had it at number 19 behind stuff I don't even like that much (I don't watch a lot of TV) so I'm part of the problem tbh.

Playing catch-up with the others listed so far:

51. The Inbetweeners - yay for knob gags and teenagers who don't act like adults think teenagers act
50. Breaking Bad - never seen it, looks v intersting
49. State of Play - excellent, as are most things featuring John Simm, must see this again
48. The Venture Bros - never really got into adult swim things but might check it out
47. Da Ali G Show - such an arse end of the 90s show that it doesn't feel as if it fits in the 2000s but definitely had its moments
46. Q.I. - I'll own up to voting for this, I'm kind of a sucker for lame gags mixed with interesting facts
45. Party Down - dunno, looks ok from clips
44. Aqua Teen Hunger Force - see Venture Bros
43. The Simpsons - didn't make my list but honourable mention/lifetime achievement and all that
42. Angel - I was a fan of Buffy for a while but Angel never quite gripped me, though I'll watch the odd ep if I stumble across it channel surfing
41. Gilmore Girls - one of those shows I see and hear mentioned (particularly on ILX) a lot and I have no idea what it's about. Don't think I've seen a second of it.
40. Wonder Showzen - see bits and bobs of this and it's funny - I think I may have spend a hungover morning at ATP watching it (if my fellow ATPers are reading, wasn't that where "Oh I see, your racism was ironic" came from?)
39. Gillette Soccer Saturday - stats and stats and idiotic pundits making arses of themselves and the legend that is Stelling. Perfect way to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon.
38. Black Books - lots of laughs but sort of irritating as well
37. Oz - thought this was a 90s thing too. Saw wee bits of it on cable somewhere but never really got into it
36. Dexter - heard good things, keep meaning to watch it
35. Friday Night Lights - nope, never heard of it
34. Jackass - deserves to be on the list, probably round about here. Can't remember the last time I even thought about watching it.
33. Project Runway - nope, never seen it
32. Family Guy - lots of laughs but sort of irritating as well. Don't quite get why so many people rate it so highly
31. House M.D. - friends keep telling me to watch this, one day I will
30. It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia - now I know there's a TV show called 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia'
29. Planet Earth - love it - just got a big giant TV to watch it on but no blu-ray yet (Blue Planet was awes too)
28. How I Met Your Mother - a show I associate with ILX as I never hear it mentioned in my day to day life but see it on here all the time. Looks funny, I'll maybe try to watch some.
27. Chappelle's Show - I've seen and enjoyed some of his stand-up stuff but never seen the show.

Large Hadron Collander (onimo), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:44 (sixteen years ago)

maybe we should wait to see what all the other 27 shows that beat it on this poll are before we start calling something the most overrated show on ILX

some dude, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:46 (sixteen years ago)

there are certainly a few that deserve that title a loooooooooooooot more in the next 26, imo (but then I love HIMYM).

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:50 (sixteen years ago)

kind of exciting that the last 3 shows were all ones i voted for (after only 2 in the first couple days of results)

some dude, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:50 (sixteen years ago)

There's been a drop in quality over the last year, but the first few seasons had some great sitcom moments. I just hope it's the only multi-camera sitcom on this list, as it is a format that I think is past it's prime.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:50 (sixteen years ago)

that was about HIMYM, btw

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:51 (sixteen years ago)

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:52 (sixteen years ago)

agree with some dude, given that we already know what the most underrated show is on ILX, we should prolly hold off on the excitement of most overrated for a day or two.

banned of bros. (darraghmac), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:53 (sixteen years ago)

Joss Whedon on a telly poll : Radiohead on a music poll.

Everyone votes for them but then feels bad when they place. Or is that just me?

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:53 (sixteen years ago)

wouldn't vote for either in a famine

banned of bros. (darraghmac), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:54 (sixteen years ago)

onimo, you want to borrow State of Play, holler at me. (you and your fellow ATPers were the first thing I thought of when Wonder Showzen placed...)

ailsa, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:55 (sixteen years ago)

oh poor irish.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:55 (sixteen years ago)

Whedon is closer to the Smiths than Radiohead. Pretty good stuff with flashes of brilliance, almost all of which is nearly undone by the fans. I voted for Buffy though.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:55 (sixteen years ago)

i started to get an inkling Firefly would place high, higher than this actually, when everyone on the "V" thread was casually referring to an actress from it by her first name like she's some huge celebrity

some dude, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:55 (sixteen years ago)

What the fuck? Planet Earth not even in the top 20? Most blatantly stoner-friendly show since HR Pufnstuf!

Brio, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:57 (sixteen years ago)

Firefly = dope show. Perhaps one of the top three skiffy shows OF ALL TIME. I borrowed the boxset and watched it over a weekend - half way through I thought it was a bit meh, but was a total convert by the end. Watching the final episode with commentary made me think for a while that Whedon was some kind of god.

George Mucus (ledge), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:58 (sixteen years ago)

what about Weeds? xp

modescalator (blueski), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:58 (sixteen years ago)

every time i've seen people talk about Weeds on here they've seemed kind of unenthusiastic and given me the feeling i'm not missing anything, so i'd kinda be surprised if it showed up here.

some dude, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 15:59 (sixteen years ago)

I watched three seasons of Weeds (plus a couple episodes) and would like that time back. If it wasn't for how much I love MLP then it would have been a total waste.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:00 (sixteen years ago)

Firefly is great but I hate how cancelling it too early means we have to put up with 8 series of shitty Dollhouse because Whedon stans buy everything. Oh if only I didn't own all of buffy/angel/firefly/toy story/serenity/alien resurrection(but only in a full alien boxet) on dvd.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:02 (sixteen years ago)

IASIP and Firefly are two more shows that I started watching and was uncompelled by at the time, only to hear people raving about them after the fact. Maybe I'll check them out again.

HIMYM finished about right, I'd say. It's probably the best traditional-format, 3-camera sitcom on television right now.

And I was just thinking about Chapelle's Show last night, wondering if everyone had forgotten about it or whether it would make a surprise showing. So there's my answer.

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:04 (sixteen years ago)

Still, Firefly >>> #25.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:09 (sixteen years ago)

haha nice teaser

some dude, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:10 (sixteen years ago)

25. Battlestar Galactica (16 votes, 1 first place vote, 2300 points.)

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:12 (sixteen years ago)

wow, expected to see that higher but i guess people don't like the later seasons? i watched the miniseries and was bored as hell, not sure when if ever i'll really dive into it further.

some dude, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:13 (sixteen years ago)

This poll is turning into "A List of Shows That Deric Watched the First 3 Episodes Of".

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:14 (sixteen years ago)

too low, despite patchy later seasons.

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:15 (sixteen years ago)

i'm glad we got that one out of the way with.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:16 (sixteen years ago)

It increased in quality steadily till the third season, the opening storyline of which is unbelievably good, some of the most compelling TV drama I've seen. Then after that the decline is pretty rapid. Still, it deserves props for bringing a fresh angle to the genre, and there were a handful of good stories in the last few seasons.

OK Abacus (chap), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:16 (sixteen years ago)

All the higher power bullshit can fuck right off though.

OK Abacus (chap), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:17 (sixteen years ago)

scifi really sucks dudes. if it wasnt for wall-e, i would have written the whole fucking genre off these ten years.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:20 (sixteen years ago)

I disagree strongly. SF lit>>>>screen SF, though.

OK Abacus (chap), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:21 (sixteen years ago)

xpost

Um, Children Of Men, dude.

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:22 (sixteen years ago)

sci-fi tv dramas suck is probably the more correct statement.

banned of bros. (darraghmac), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:23 (sixteen years ago)

you can include vampires in there too if it's not a given

banned of bros. (darraghmac), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:23 (sixteen years ago)

I never saw Children Of Men. I did try reading Gravity's Rainbow once but fuck that shit.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:24 (sixteen years ago)

Is there any kind of link between the two?

OK Abacus (chap), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:25 (sixteen years ago)

Not really an ideal entry into sci-fi title tbh xp

Large Hadron Collander (onimo), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:26 (sixteen years ago)

I have no idea. Someone bought up CoM and you bought up scifilit, of which i couldn't be fucked with. /inane statement.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:26 (sixteen years ago)

sci-fi is great apart from all the "human interest" shite. there.

i think i put BSG 15th or so - avoided it for ages but then when i finally gave it a go i was immediately hooked and didn't let go until 4th season (3rd was patchy tho yes). even now i kinda want to watch THE PLAN based on the trailer i saw.

modescalator (blueski), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:27 (sixteen years ago)

Really? I thought it was supposed to be like the freaking Shakespeare of it all?
