Yeah, the majority of the characters that wind up sticking around throughout the series are introduced in those first two episodes. The only real exception being Rory's dad, maybe? Kurt shows up in episode 1 as a different character, but I'll count it.

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 22:52 (sixteen years ago)

Does anyone else think the show improved for the last season after they got rid of the creators and had other people come in and write? Because it seemed to me Season 6 just went nowhere while being pretty awful. Then whoever came in to right the ship for Season 7 did a great job. I'd be interested to know how the creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, would have ended it though.

brontosaur, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 22:56 (sixteen years ago)

Well, I didn't like Rory's dad as a character, so season 7 was hard going at times considering it all revolved around him being the rong choice for Lorelei. Had some great episodes though, like when Lane has the twins, the grandads heart attack and the last episode.

"No one is going to mistake Gilmore Girls for The Wire."

Rory should marry Stringer Bell. The season writes itself!

Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 23:09 (sixteen years ago)

Turns out Emily Gilmore and the DAR are running the crack game in West Baltimore, Stringer is just the face of the operation.

i didn't vote for GG but realize now that's only because it's such an early 00 show i don't remember much about it. enjoyed it quite a bit when it first aired.

sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 23:31 (sixteen years ago)

tho i don't think it had much ws quality, apart from maybe paris in an episode or two

Nhex, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 02:12 (sixteen years ago)

Gilmore girls used XTC at least five times (if you count The Three Wise Men as XTC), but that's gotta be the weirdest.

Jouster, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 03:21 (sixteen years ago)

Well, I didn't like Rory's dad as a character

tbh i was pretty disappointed w/ how the whole jess situation played out, but he was a fantasstic character, and had a lot of potential i dont think the show really tapped into.

HOWEVER, tristan being written out was the worst decision they made in the first few seasons (well, i guess they didn't have a choice, but still). he was such an interesting character, and is my vote for best looking male of any show ive watched this decade. i'm st8 tho, so take that w/ a grain of salt

Family Guy outranking FNL = I'm going to create a Seth McFarlane sock and SB it.

pretty sure 'sex and the city' is gonna be one of the thus far unmentioned shows that doesn't break 50?

was gilmore girls on in the UK? if not, or yes but only at weird times on weird channels, that would explain why i) i had never heard of it until this poll, and confused it with the golden girls ii) it placed low -- lots of brit voters.

because of the separate tv markets in US and UK, ii) means the top 10 is going to be dominated by shows that crossed over: the UK office and a bunch of US drama did well over here. freaks and geeks is not going to get many UK votes, for instance : (

caek, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 11:07 (sixteen years ago)

Gilmore Girls is on right now on E4+1 caek.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 11:09 (sixteen years ago)

And he really means right now.

PC Thug (Ned Trifle II), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 11:10 (sixteen years ago)

weird times

caek, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 11:11 (sixteen years ago)

Why is Seinfeld getting mentioned in this thread so much? It wasn't even eligible (it ended in '98)!

Jouster, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 11:11 (sixteen years ago)

And it's been on ever since (except in the UK).

PC Thug (Ned Trifle II), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 11:12 (sixteen years ago)

Oh shit - RONG! - it's on Virgin 1 right now.

PC Thug (Ned Trifle II), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 11:13 (sixteen years ago)

or it should be. i'm playing football manager, looking for jobs and not watching telly.

Let's be honest here :(

Eps.5 series 1 is on now followed by series 2, ep 1. Are they going through the whole thing?

PC Thug (Ned Trifle II), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 11:15 (sixteen years ago)

is my vote for best looking male of any show ive watched this decade

He's also in One Tree Hill and Dawson's Creek, so guess you didn't watch either of them. I really should try again with Gilmore Girls, it looks right up my street. I'm not sure why I didn't give it much of a chance before.

(ooh, look, you're right, just about to start on E4+1, might give it a go RIGHT NOW!)

ailsa, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 11:17 (sixteen years ago)

yr numbering confuses me.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 11:18 (sixteen years ago)

Also, James Franco was in a telly show this decade, so no other male really stands a chance, right?

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 11:19 (sixteen years ago)

seinfeld getting mentioned as a 'the type of thing you shouldn't vote for' example.

antastic mr ox (darraghmac), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 11:20 (sixteen years ago)

yr numbering confuses me

Was that me? I'm trying to type, while watching Seinfeld, while trying to figure out how to put the hoover back together - it's too much...

PC Thug (Ned Trifle II), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 11:29 (sixteen years ago)

Twenty minutes into Gilmore Girls - mother is v. annoying and her comic timing off a bit off. Could see me watching this though.

has a show ever gone from fresh/interesting to unwatchably one-note as quickly as Scrubs?

scrubs was fun for a good four years before I got totally burnt out on the schtick, plenty of shows haven't made it through a season

gilmore girls would be a letdown after bad santa y/n? (never watched gg but would santa graham.)

niggaz thought M.A.S stand for mop and shit (sic), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 12:06 (sixteen years ago)

scrubs doesn't bear repeated re-viewing, however, and is rerun at Friends-rate here in the UK, with fewer seasons to pull episodes from.

classic YMMV quandary I suppose, but while many shows don't get through a season it's usually because they're no good. Scrubs was very good indeed, but I got heartily sick of it sometime during season 2 I think and now can't tolerate it at all.

Scrubs was only fun before I noticed how much I hate Zach Braff.

season 2, right?

scrubs was fun until they tried to make us care about the four leads when all anyone really wanted was more kelso, ted and the janitor hijinks, and sometimes maybe perry and jordan.

i don't mind braff on scrubs because i think the writers hate his character just as much as i do.

James Franco was in a telly show this decade

lol he's on TWO telly shows this decade now - he's signed on for a few episodes of General Hospital, of all things.

"For a relationship to work, it needs trust; like a wife trusting her husband even if it requires compromise, or a patient trusting his doctor to help him hold onto his dignity. It may take a lot of work, but in the end it's worth it, because things turn out for the best."

harsh on dr turkleton imo, but yeah the other three can go in the furnace for all i care. in fact, using a serial killer angle to bring the janitor to the fore would be a rather awesome move.

antastic mr ox (darraghmac), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 12:57 (sixteen years ago)

okay yeah turk's aite but i just consider him and carla as one package and their drama got old vv quickly
