no Jane Lynch is the one that's leaving and being replaced by Mullaly, AFAIK the rest of the cast is staying for s2

Dwight is easily my least favorite character on the US Office. Easily and by far.

totally thought jane lynch was locked into Glee
― Nhex, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 20:53 (sixteen years ago)
so i guess lynch is only in the season finale? whoever let this happen fucked up big time imo
― psychgawsple, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 20:53 (sixteen years ago)
and i don't know if this is a ***SPOILER*** or not but i was just assuming that casey quitting the company to pursue that acting job meant no more caplan
― psychgawsple, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 20:57 (sixteen years ago)
I forgot about that. They better replace her with proper WS material. Or Mac from Veronica Mars would be cool.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 21:00 (sixteen years ago)
lots of shows have season-enders that make it seem like the character is on their way out, but it's usually safe to assume they're not unless it's already been anounced that the actor was fired or on their way to other projects
― the tuppence takes manhattan (some dude), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 21:01 (sixteen years ago)
like A character, i meant to say

^ This. There was no real indication that Kaplan was actually on the way out.
Also, re: "proper WS material", I'm simultaneously squicked, laughing, and nodding in agreement.

TS: Lauren Graham on Gilmore Girls vs. Lizzy Kaplan on Party Down. It's a toughie.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 21:06 (sixteen years ago)
One was in Cloverfield, the other was in the Pacifier. Caplin, no question.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 21:07 (sixteen years ago)
ha yes apparently i am gullible. nice to hear she's still there regardless!
― psychgawsple, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 21:07 (sixteen years ago)
oh wait, on their each respective shows. Hmmm.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 21:08 (sixteen years ago)
Yes, on their shows. That, like, devestatingly pretty in a totally down-to-earth way, sardonic & smart & funny brunette archetype brings me to my effing knees, dood.

Fact: Alexis Bledel is 100% Latina. English is her second language. WTF, right?
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 21:17 (sixteen years ago)
re: gilmore girls and middle-classDon't all the main characters live in mansions, and fall from grace means operating an upscale bed and breakfast? And the scummiest degenerate musician character is very affable and clean Sebastian Bach?!
― Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 21:19 (sixteen years ago)
One of the main characters is a dirty farmer. But yes, some main characters live in mansions.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 21:20 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, Lauren Graham's character left the cozy comforts of her upper class family when she got preggers, but she ultimately did all right for herself, really. I wish I had her effing house.
The show really does deal with a lot of class issues, though. It's pretty endemic to the formula.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 21:22 (sixteen years ago)
I mean, part of the plot is that the grandparents are back in the Girls' lives because Lauren Graham had to borrow money from them for Alexis Bledel's private schooling.
(I would use the character names but I don't want to confuse anyone.)
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 21:24 (sixteen years ago)
yeah the class issues are probably the most interesting aspect of the show after the actual relationships
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 3 November 2009 21:29 (sixteen years ago)
and that alexis bledel picture @_________@
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 3 November 2009 21:30 (sixteen years ago)
I like Rainn/Dwight & I am hard-pressed to find a weak link in the entire ensemble, really, but the collective awesomeness of the group should make it easy to overlook any shortcomings you find in a particular actor/character.

I dislike Dwight mostly because I don't feel like he belongs on the show. His wacky existence often denies the reality that the show tries to establish. A lot of the other characters push it, but never quite as far as Dwight. I mean, cutting the face off of a CPR dummy and wearing it? And then you expect me to legitimately care about the bumps in Jim and Pam's relationship?
Like I've said above, I do like and continue to watch the US Office, but I could probably write a dissertation about its frequent wrongfootedness. That shit needs to establish a freakin' tone already and commit to it.

I thought Dwight was your least favorite character on The Office.
― jaymc, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 21:50 (sixteen years ago)
Ha. Look, I don't hate the character, I just don't like the character on the show. Kenneth is one of my favorite characters on 30 Rock, but I'd hate his presence if he were on The Office.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 21:54 (sixteen years ago)
Totally awkward Gilmore Girls clip, but hilarious that they came up with a cold open to be all, "NEW XTC ALBUM JUST DROPPED WOOOO!":https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QkcuJgKAqU
― brontosaur, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 22:06 (sixteen years ago)
is that the first episode? i thought it opened with crepey guys making on mother/daughter combo in the diner.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 22:25 (sixteen years ago)
only say that because rory surely starts school in the first episode? or is that the second? wow, i am a fanboy who should go to sleep.
It's the second. The first episode deals with Lorelai trying to scrape together the tuition before Rory starts at Chilton.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 22:31 (sixteen years ago)
The first episode was also all about introducing the grandparents, Rory meeting Dean at her old school and briefly waffling about Chilton, etc.
I only remember all of this because I rewatched these episodes recently, BTW.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 22:34 (sixteen years ago)
It's kind of interesting in that most of the (first season) main characters of the show were introduced in two waves. Like they recognized that there were too many of them to give them all a fitting intro in the first ep. It was a good call.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 22:37 (sixteen years ago)
How bad is the public school alternative?
― Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 22:39 (sixteen years ago)
not that bad tbh - rory is really smart and not challenged by her old school. plus she'd dreamed of harvard since she was like 4 and saw chilton as a better vehicle for that

― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, November 3, 2009 5:37 PM (9 minutes ago)
one thing i'm always amazed by is when i look back at recaps of the first episodes...it's like, whoa, we met dean and the grandparents all in the first episode??? seems like it was several episodes before we met all them
― k3vin k., Tuesday, 3 November 2009 22:47 (sixteen years ago)
Ha ha. Not all that bad, actually, on the face of it. I mean, they live in this idyllic little New England town, so of course there's no real poverty or overt social strife. The reality of the show is definitely in a sealed-off little bubble away from the rest of the world. No one is going to mistake Gilmore Girls for The Wire. The conflict on GG is almost entirely internal and/or interpersonal.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 22:49 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, the majority of the characters that wind up sticking around throughout the series are introduced in those first two episodes. The only real exception being Rory's dad, maybe? Kurt shows up in episode 1 as a different character, but I'll count it.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 22:52 (sixteen years ago)
Does anyone else think the show improved for the last season after they got rid of the creators and had other people come in and write? Because it seemed to me Season 6 just went nowhere while being pretty awful. Then whoever came in to right the ship for Season 7 did a great job. I'd be interested to know how the creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, would have ended it though.
― brontosaur, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 22:56 (sixteen years ago)
Well, I didn't like Rory's dad as a character, so season 7 was hard going at times considering it all revolved around him being the rong choice for Lorelei. Had some great episodes though, like when Lane has the twins, the grandads heart attack and the last episode.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 23:09 (sixteen years ago)
"No one is going to mistake Gilmore Girls for The Wire."
Rory should marry Stringer Bell. The season writes itself!
