I'm hoping that the dreck like Jackass (the sole virtue of which is that it is not CKY) and the adult swim stuff is mostly gone, and we can get down to the seriously awesome shit.
― The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:14 (sixteen years ago)
also, is there a consensus on Skins? US TV has pwned UK TV this decade.
― The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:15 (sixteen years ago)
The consensus on Skins is that it's pretty good.
― OK Abacus (chap), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:16 (sixteen years ago)
shows not mentioned in the last few posts that I expect to see in the top 30 and possibly the top 10: The West Wing, The Daily Show, Futurama, Chappelle's Show, How I Met Your Mother, Freaks & Geeks, Curb Your Enthusiasm possibly also Top Chef, Top Model, Veronic Mars, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, The Colbert Report, Eastbound & Down, Firefly
― the tuppence takes manhattan (some dude), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:16 (sixteen years ago)
and Galactica, unless the last season drained all the goodwill away.
― The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:17 (sixteen years ago)
oh, meant to say that too.
― the tuppence takes manhattan (some dude), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:18 (sixteen years ago)
I'm already getting the feeling that some highly worthy stuff got pushed out of the top 50 altogether. You can expect the fur to really fly once that list is posted.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:18 (sixteen years ago)
I think Damages could pop up too.
Curb is another that I don't watch and had forgotten about and that will probably rate highly, yes.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:19 (sixteen years ago)
SNL is number 1, right? Particularly for the Fallon years?
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:20 (sixteen years ago)
and The Shield, maybe?
If Angel places and Buffy doesn't, something went well wrong. Unless everybody who chose it put it lower down because it's best years were behind it when the decade started.
― The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:20 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, I'm kinda wondering how Buffy will do. The decade straddling did it no favors, I'm sure. I think season 5 alone was enough to win it a high placing, but that's probably just me.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:22 (sixteen years ago)
I think West Wing might not chart, despite me number-one-ing it, purely because I think I'm the only major West Wing stan doing the voting. I hope to be proved wrong. Depending on number of Britishers voting, would like to hope Being Human and Doctor Who make it in.
― ailsa, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:23 (sixteen years ago)
Of course, I also rate season 6 quite highly, even though I will fully admit that it's probably the most excruciating season of a quality television series ever produced. That pervasive air of misery is hard as hell to sit through, but it's High Fucking Art, I tell you.

obviously you're joking but I think SNL deserves to be on the list, more than the Simpsons anyway, for its accomplishments in this decade (Tina Fey-era update, digital shorts, Kristen Wiig, the later years of Will Ferrell and Tracy Morgan, etc.)
― the tuppence takes manhattan (some dude), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:26 (sixteen years ago)
DependingBecause of the number of Britishers internet nerds voting, would like to hope definitely know Being Human and Doctor Who makes it in.
xpost. agree re: season 6 of Buffy. Lots of greatness in seasons 4-6, but I wonder if everyone else is as burned out on it as I am.
― The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:27 (sixteen years ago)
some of steve coogan's shows should be up there too - if the multiple shows didn't split the vote
― Brio, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:27 (sixteen years ago)
The top 3 got over 40 votes if that helps you guys speculating.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:29 (sixteen years ago)
40 votes *each*, obviously.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:30 (sixteen years ago)
Wire, Sopranos and Lost then.
― ailsa, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:31 (sixteen years ago)
wow, out of 72 voters? kinda cool to know there's going to be such a strong consensus deciding the big winners (xpost)
― the tuppence takes manhattan (some dude), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:31 (sixteen years ago)
By the way, people have not mentioned [A CERTAIN SHOW] and [ANOTHER SHOW] that I thought would be big names, at least in speculation. Seems weird that [ONE OF THESE SHOWS] was kind of forgotten about.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:34 (sixteen years ago)
Heroes?
― ailsa, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:36 (sixteen years ago)
24?
― OK Abacus (chap), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:36 (sixteen years ago)
xpost!
― ailsa, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:37 (sixteen years ago)
24 was number 24 on my list. That's my idea of wit.
Ha
― OK Abacus (chap), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:37 (sixteen years ago)
Yo Gabba Gabba & The Mclaughlin Group?
― Brio, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:38 (sixteen years ago)
I had prepared for Family Guy inevitably being on the list, so I am pleased that it is as low as it is and not polluting the upper half of this fine poll.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:38 (sixteen years ago)
South Park? The Shield? Friends?
― the tuppence takes manhattan (some dude), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:38 (sixteen years ago)
I would expect 'The Thick of It' to make the top 20 and wouldn't be surprised it if was higher than 'The Office (UK)'.
― go in go hard brother (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:39 (sixteen years ago)
Masterchef?
― OK Abacus (chap), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:39 (sixteen years ago)
oh someone mentioned The Shield, nvm (xpost)
― the tuppence takes manhattan (some dude), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:39 (sixteen years ago)
I missed a trick there, I think it was 23 on mine (checked, oh, OK, it was 22 on mine).
Is Spaced another omission from speculation, or is it just me that gives a shit?
― ailsa, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:39 (sixteen years ago)
Um, first bit about 24, obv.
― ailsa, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:40 (sixteen years ago)
Well certainly some these shows made it and some didn't. Maybe.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:40 (sixteen years ago)
i only got into The Thick Of It after voting :(
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:41 (sixteen years ago)
Ditto me and The Office US.
― OK Abacus (chap), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:42 (sixteen years ago)
MORE POLL FACTZ:
The highest show not to get any #1 votes was 12.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:45 (sixteen years ago)
I'm surprised Party Down made the list. Does this mean that the Lizzy Caplan nudity in True Blood might have thrust it onto the list somewhere?
― The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:49 (sixteen years ago)
Lizzy Caplan gets naked in True Blood? I may have to actually watch it.
/crepe
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:51 (sixteen years ago)
I voted for True Blood, but I dunno, can't really picture it making the top 30. But then, I'm quickly becoming pessimistic about the prospect of a lot of shows I voted for (Home Movies, Pushing Daisies, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends) making the list at all.
― the tuppence takes manhattan (some dude), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 18:51 (sixteen years ago)
Home Movies almost made it onto my 25, but I voted for those other two! Then again I'm looking at my list again and realize about half of the cartoons and the one anime show I voted for probably aren't going to make this list at all. SURPRISE ME POLL VOTERS!
― Nhex, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 19:13 (sixteen years ago)
obviously you're joking but I think SNL deserves to be on the list
I kind of agree. Don't get me wrong: I love SNL, and I probably watch old SNL reruns more than anything else on my list (and read and reread anything about it that I can get my hands on), but I think I watch and enjoy it for completely different reasons than why I watch most of this other stuff. I'm kinda more fascinated with it as a performance space and a cultural institution, if that makes sense? Plus, it's just incredibly hit and miss even on its best weeks.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 19:14 (sixteen years ago)
"hit or miss", obvs.
South Park will probably surprise us and rank fairly high.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 19:16 (sixteen years ago)
"How much play does the Amazing Race get on ILX?"
it used to get play! we were a real team! *sniff* then everyone went away...
(seriously, that was one of my fave ilx group luv threads. but then the show proceeded to keep going for another 20 years and nobody wanted to follow it with the old cheer. understandable. i still watch on and off. i voted for it in the poll out of old luv for the show.)
― scott seward, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 19:17 (sixteen years ago)
Wait, there were ILXers on The Amazing Race? When? Is it on youtube etc.?
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 19:18 (sixteen years ago)
I still watch Amazing Race all the time. Secret shame.
― Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Tuesday, 3 November 2009 19:18 (sixteen years ago)
"How high will Freaks and Geeks be?"
seeing as how ilx is about 50% freak and 50% geek, i'll bet it's top five for sure.
― scott seward, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 19:23 (sixteen years ago)
yes, there were many ilxors on the amazing race. NO, i meant we all used to watch it as a team! it was like a team sport thread. or any t.v. show thread.
― scott seward, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 19:24 (sixteen years ago)
I'm kinda more fascinated with it as a performance space and a cultural institution, if that makes sense? Plus, it's just incredibly hit and miss even on its best weeks.
