yeah i think if ilx existed in 99 to do something similar, the simpsons would have won it hands down. but because there is no such poll, people feeling bad if the simpsons isn't recognised as some sort of goat shizz.

well, in my mind i just figure Simpsons would be at or very near the top of my ballot (and many others') in a '90s poll, whether or not we ever do one, and felt no need to put it on my ballot for this one.

I don't think we ever will. Maybe an ALL TIME TELLY POLL but not a 90s one. I certainly wouldn't, just because of seeing seinfeld come top would make me saaaaaaaaaaaaad. :)

The Simpsons would probably rank at about #3 or 4 on my '90s ballot (The Larry Sanders Show is #1 with a big-ass bullet). But the important part is that it would rank highly, and also that it would be present on my ballot at all.

tbh I think I would struggle to even list 25 shows I considered great in the 90s - this decade, not at all a problem

i think my list would just be larry sanders, twin peaks, simpsons and a bunch of nickelodeon shows. oh and frasier/cheers/friends.

I can state that at least 1 non-fiction show makes the top 10 and possibly wins it, possibly doesn't.

Show I discovered after voting that I really like and wish I threw some points- Being Erica.

that's more or less how i felt. it's on like five times a day, hard to keep track of what's old, new, good or bad. might as well put it on there.

Simpsons got an average vote of 86 points from each voter, so people must have been putting it 16th-17th in their lists (compare it with Angel which is next on the list and had 145 votes on average). So, yeah, it must have been getting votes from people who had just run out of other stuff to vote for.

I would like Lost to place pretty high, but definitely not in the top 5. Even the stans know there was a lot of awful stuff in the second and third seasons, and nobody seems to like at least 50% of the main characters.

Good question. This whole poll is making me feel like Liz Lemon in Stone Mountain, GA. My opinions are apparently not shared with the rest of the world.

I'm hoping that the dreck like Jackass (the sole virtue of which is that it is not CKY) and the adult swim stuff is mostly gone, and we can get down to the seriously awesome shit.

If Angel places and Buffy doesn't, something went well wrong. Unless everybody who chose it put it lower down because it's best years were behind it when the decade started.

Yeah, I'm kinda wondering how Buffy will do. The decade straddling did it no favors, I'm sure. I think season 5 alone was enough to win it a high placing, but that's probably just me.

I think West Wing might not chart, despite me number-one-ing it, purely because I think I'm the only major West Wing stan doing the voting. I hope to be proved wrong. Depending on number of Britishers voting, would like to hope Being Human and Doctor Who make it in.

Of course, I also rate season 6 quite highly, even though I will fully admit that it's probably the most excruciating season of a quality television series ever produced. That pervasive air of misery is hard as hell to sit through, but it's High Fucking Art, I tell you.

obviously you're joking but I think SNL deserves to be on the list, more than the Simpsons anyway, for its accomplishments in this decade (Tina Fey-era update, digital shorts, Kristen Wiig, the later years of Will Ferrell and Tracy Morgan, etc.)
