I know we're not there yet but can I just say I hope Friday Night Lights does respectably in this thing - in a non-anonymous environment I might say I love other cooler stuff more but I'd be lying. I don't know if even The Wire gives as complete a picture of a community as FNL does for Dillon, Texas. Crucifictorious! Riggins Rigs! The Landing Strip! The "Who's your Buddy?" TV ads! The Alamo Freeze!
― Brio, Monday, 2 November 2009 20:54 (sixteen years ago)
Well, did you vote for it?
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Monday, 2 November 2009 20:57 (sixteen years ago)
I would have but didn't see this until today - just a spectator on this one.
― Brio, Monday, 2 November 2009 20:58 (sixteen years ago)
wonder showzen was maybe my favourite show ever
― plaks (I know, right?), Monday, 2 November 2009 20:59 (sixteen years ago)
just fyi
well lets just hope more people like a show about white kids playing a stupid sport. because no-one voted for One Tree Hill
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Monday, 2 November 2009 21:01 (sixteen years ago)
one tree hill is a pile of ass imo
― plaks (I know, right?), Monday, 2 November 2009 21:02 (sixteen years ago)
yeah, it looks awful. what does it have to do with anything? I didn't even know it was about white kids playing a stupid sport.
― Brio, Monday, 2 November 2009 21:05 (sixteen years ago)
Oh, that was just my intepretation of it. Like darragh and his seinfeld catchphrases.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Monday, 2 November 2009 21:16 (sixteen years ago)
i've never actually watched an episode.

Wonder Showzen was amazing. the "patience" episode! omg

Wonder Showzen's the best thing on this list so far by a country mile.

The Clarence free speech segment of Wonder Showzen from Season 1 was genius. Most of the stuff involving kids saying "inappropriate" things (oooh, subversive!) got very old very quickly, and then Clarence got old too so I stopped watching.
― Pete Scholtes, Monday, 2 November 2009 21:50 (sixteen years ago)
Fuck knows what Wonder Showzen is. Youtube-ing it for the purposes of the poll didn't make me any wiser to what the fuck it is either.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Monday, November 2, 2009 3:20 PM
thats a mtv show? for some absurd reason, i thought they had a bit of quality control. or maybe I should stop thinking of them as the network who once made Daria.

Mad Men is among a slew of shows whose initial episodes weren't enough to reel me in. Although I must obviously take another stab sometime in the future.
Shows I don't watch that'll probably be in the top 10: Mad Men, Battlestar Galactica, According To Jim.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 2 November 2009 22:53 (sixteen years ago)
P.S. Since the Britisher eveningtime is the middle of the American workday, I think it's fair to say that I'm going to be getting very little done at my job this week. About which I'm just terribly, terribly concerned.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 2 November 2009 22:55 (sixteen years ago)
ha, i also cannot deal with battlestar. i just feel dirty when watching it. it is totally this decades star trek. (this decades star trek was great though as it wasnt a geekfest.)
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Monday, 2 November 2009 23:03 (sixteen years ago)
Deric - yes, I am. Are you on there, too?
― Jouster, Monday, 2 November 2009 23:04 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, but just as a Lurky McLurkington for the most part. You do good works, though. Love the TBSOWFMU interview, in particular (would have voted for The Best Show as favorite show of the decade if it were on TV).
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 2 November 2009 23:08 (sixteen years ago)
There doesn't seem to be a TBSOWFMU thread here. Surprising and disappointing. And thanks!
― Jouster, Monday, 2 November 2009 23:10 (sixteen years ago)
I think there used to be! I'm sure I remember one. Maybe on the sandbox?
At any rate, I know I've logged more hours listening to the Best Show (since, like, '03 or something) than I have watching any of my favorite television shows. I'm a much bigger stan of TV than I am of radio, but my favorite weekly program is a radio show. What does this say? TRY HARDER, TV!
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 2 November 2009 23:17 (sixteen years ago)
I love it completely but Best Show has been a bit hit or miss lately. I like Tom's stories about pinball and guys who complain about the price of bananas at Starbucks more than anything else lately. And Larry The perv has gotta give it a rest. Spike's Weirdos Exposed delusion has been pretty fun though.
― Brio, Monday, 2 November 2009 23:22 (sixteen years ago)
TBSOWFMU
what is this? Or The Best Show while I am asking.
― Samuel (a hoy hoy), Monday, 2 November 2009 23:24 (sixteen years ago)
The Best Show on WFMU
― Brio, Monday, 2 November 2009 23:26 (sixteen years ago)
The Best Show on WFMU. A weekly radio program on (obviously) WFMU, a freeform station based in New Jersey. Not TV, but just as enjoyable!
I actually agree with you, Brio, but I still listen religiously.
― Jouster, Monday, 2 November 2009 23:26 (sixteen years ago)
yeah, I still enjoy it a lot despite my griping.

what was your best show interview about, jouster?
― Brio, Monday, 2 November 2009 23:30 (sixteen years ago)
xxxxpost
The Best Show on WFMU. It's a radio show on (fittingly enough) WFMU in Jersey City, New Jersey and it's a hidden comedy gem. The show itself is a mostly talk/call-in/interview show which has become pretty entertaining in and of itself, but the centerpiece is the calls by Jon Wurster. Over the course of almost a decade now, Tom Scharpling (the host) and Wurster have created this whole world populated with insane characters. Wurster might be the funniest dude alive right now, for my money. Descriptions can't do it justice, though. You just need to experience it.
― I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 2 November 2009 23:32 (sixteen years ago)
I interviewed Tom and Jon. Talked about their process, and their history, and a bunch of other things. I was pretty nervous - I know Tom a bit, but had just met Jon, and they're responsible for some of my favorite comedy stuff, so... It's still online on this page, if you want to hear it: http://astradio.libsyn.com/ (pardon the occasional poorly phrased question and awkwardness, like I said, I was nervous).
― Jouster, Monday, 2 November 2009 23:36 (sixteen years ago)
Looks cool! I'll check it out.

Yes. There's a link on the playlist page Brio posted.

The July 21st show is a great place to start. I just about died listening to it at work the next day and trying to hold in my laughter. Tears, I tell you.

Simpsons making this list is incredibly wrong btw.
Respectively, bite it. I am as big a Simpsons RIP nostalgist as you'll find, but there are like, FIVE episodes that are awesome and warrant affection to the point of voting for the series on another stupid ILX poll.
― Leee, Tuesday, 3 November 2009 02:47 (sixteen years ago)
When you read my preceding post, you should picture me typing in front of a giant gut, thinning hair pulled back in a ponytail, taking advantage of Taco Bell's dollar taco promo while entertaining myself with a Doctor Who marathon.

Leee, please tell me what these five episodes are so that I may watch them. Seriously. I would love to watch some Simpsons episodes that makes my happy in the way they used to.

oops, I forgot to vote in this. So I guess I can't bitch about Breaking Bad being so far down on the list (would have been top 3 for me, so perhaps I could have singlehandedly effected its position?)
