Is QI just a chat show or is there more to it?

Basically it is a panel show where comedians try and be interesting. Sometimes its funny, sometimes you want to punch Jimmy Carr/Alan Davies/Jeremy Clarkson/Jo Brand in the cock.

QI is a weird british beast, the panel entertainment show; kind of like hollywood squares or what's my line with no member of the great unwashed trying to win prizes.

One of my nominees, at last! Party Down is gifted with an awesome ensemble of people who mesh well together, first of all. That seems to be a necessary staple of all solid comedy shows. Secondly, it's one of only a small handful of comedy shows that have successfully pulled off the 'laffs & pathos' formula perfected by the UK Office. Which might just be my ideal comic formula.

Yeah, as a britisher I don't get aqua teen. as i said on t'other thread, adult swim ruined danger doom and thus i never bothered to give a fuck after.

As a human being, I don't get ATHF. I feel like I've seen enough of it to make a judgment. It's occasionally amusing, but that's gonna happen when you've constructed a show that consists solely of throwing completely random shit at the wall to see what sticks.

Yeah, pretty much like Family Guy without the normal, suburban trappings, I guess. Comedy involves judgment and discrimination!

Love Breaking Bad Seas. 1: The combination of credible situations and sympathy for the parent, where Weeds increasingly had neither, made it scary-funny. I think it sort of lost me with the standoff with the gangster though, which felt more action-movie-like.

I've enjoyed moments of The Venture Bros, but really, Top 50? This is going to be a weird list.

tbh i'm happy to see it here even if i didn't vote for it, for all the crap it's aired the last 10 years it's also probably given me as many laughs as a lot of the shows i did vote for among the better episodes.

As much as I want to hate Whedon, I am really glad Angel made it. Between the puppet episode and Lorne the gay karoake demon, it did provide many a LOL.

Venture Bros is so great.

Buffy was a better show, but Angel was epic. The larger part of the series hung together as one massive, apocalyptic storyline. Worth watching for Wesley's progression alone.

Yeah, there was an episode of Angel with evil puppets. It was ridiculously great.

btw my #1 vote for the Venture Brothers was not strategic, I really do think its the best show of the decade

i find it admirable that the show is far more concerned with the characters' reactions to or emotions resulting from significant events and how they affects pre-existing relationships more than the events themselves. think about lorelai and max splitting up & rory and jess getting into a car accident, which i'd say are the two most important events of the show (as far as i am, which is near the end of S2). neither of these events are actually shown to us on screen! depicting these would not only be superfluous but run the risk of being insipid - the way lorelai reacts to ending her engagement with max, or the way jess' crash and subsequent town-wide vilification makes rory re-evaluate her feelings for him and relationship with dean is far more interesting to me.

this is great. i'm gonna use this thread as my 'stuff to watch' list for the next few months, as i'm not up to speed on hardly any of it. angel can fuck right off tho.

Kev hitting the nail on the head there. But also, it is wickedly funny and I found myself caring for the characters even more than any show this decade. Only the kids in the Wire came close.

Gilmore Girls is the sort of show that I would only watch if a girl made me watch it, but I would secretly enjoy more than she did.

Gilmore Girls looks bloody awful from that clip.

Ha. I recommended it to a bunch of friends only to be called an emofagwhatever. And then like 6 months later a bunch came back to me gushing about how much they love gilmore girls.

Well, that clip was just because ilx likes yo la tengo and sonic youth.
