(I haven't seen the film of State of Play because I liked the TV series so much)

The second series of Breaking Bad is infuckingcredible, one of the most tightly plotted things I've ever seen, and considerably bleaker than the first if you can believe it. Unfortunately I didn't start watching it until after my ballot was cast, so it didn't get a vote from me. Would've been top ten easy.

rewatching the first season recently, I have to say the first few episodes of Venture Bros. are kind of rough, and it really hits its stride toward the end of that season and in the 2nd season.

great to see it here, I'd whine that it's too low but at the same time I'm grateful it's not the surprise at #52

Huh. Even 2-3 is a bigger split than I expected. Any mild chagrin I might be feeling about some of my choices getting squeezed out is sure to be made up for by discovering good stuff that I've never even heard of before.

It also helps that britishers were at least trying to different things like ali g instead of two and half men.

Other selling points for State of Play[i]: I watched it a month or so ago, and I couldn't help but think that this is how the last season of [i]The Wire should've played -- the same narrative density, the same shorthand dialogue, the same, droll gallows humor used to push against the tedium/inanity found in a given profession, and the same weight of institutional self-interest that individuals run into. Also: the endings for both are kind of stupid.

Well now I'm really intrigued. I just saw Russell Crowe was in the movie and couldn't give a toss but I might actually watch it soon.

I'll guess I should move on to 46...

Is QI just a chat show or is there more to it?

Basically it is a panel show where comedians try and be interesting. Sometimes its funny, sometimes you want to punch Jimmy Carr/Alan Davies/Jeremy Clarkson/Jo Brand in the cock.

QI is a weird british beast, the panel entertainment show; kind of like hollywood squares or what's my line with no member of the great unwashed trying to win prizes.

xp Chuck: It has a filler episode or two per season, and a couple minor characters remain resolutely minor. But it really is the best drama running these days, and season two is better than one.

I thank the voters on this poll for introducing me to Breaking Bad and Wonder Showzen. I'm perfectly happy to watch series after they close or are cancelled, and those of you with good taste sorting through all the dross make my TV sloth possible.

couldn't disagree more about the Breaking Bad bathtub sequence, but then again I am a horror stan & a cretin.

My biggest problem with the bathtub sequence is that it was so obvious what was going to happen as soon as the guy pulled the corpse up the stairs. There was nothing surprising or interesting about it at all -- it just seemed completely lazy. But then, I'm not a horror movie fan at all, so maybe it wasn't for me. And I'll definitely take people's advice and stick with the show for a while anyway.

I personally loved the body disposal storyline, it's what first made me sit up and take notice of the show. I do have quite a black sense of humour (which is kind of essential for Breaking Bad), but the way they depicted it as a really really nasty household chore was very original, and I loved that they devoted so much time to the minutiae of it, which shows what a fucked-up situation these people have got themselves into. Far more honest than just ignoring over the fact that our heroes are now responsible for a corpse, as I think most shows would do. It may have been obvious what was going to happen, but the way they depicted it wasn't at all.

But yeah, even if you weren't into that carry on - series two is just exceptionally good.

Watched one episode, which was pretty dire despite a good cast. I've got a friend who really likes it (enough to have bought the box set), but he's Australian.

i remember vaguely enjoying it but not enough to recommend downloading it 3 yrs later. also not sure it deserved two series. basically 'ok if v. bored and have nothing else to do and dont wanna watch another friends repeat on e4' type bbc programming (i.e. basically all their comedy this decade except psychoville/monkey dust/thick of it/amstell on nmtb)
