RAPTOBER (sic), Sunday, 1 November 2009 23:34 (sixteen years ago)

Trapper and Henry's last ep was the season 3 finale.

musically, Sunday, 1 November 2009 23:50 (sixteen years ago)

different cerie in the pilot too! (sorry if that was mentioned before... with 4600+ posts it's probably time for a new thread.)

the tamiflu show (get bent), Monday, 2 November 2009 01:17 (sixteen years ago)

sitcoms have definitely gotten more into continuity and long term storylines and character changes in the past 10 years (which is the only reason why 30 Rock's relative stasis seems interesting next to, like, The Office or How I Met Your Mother), but yeah lots of show have had big changes from year to year, whether it's soapy story arcs on Friends or just kids growing up on Roseanne or whatever.

some dude, Monday, 2 November 2009 01:36 (sixteen years ago)

The introduction of David into Roseanne was handled really, really well I think (except for the fact his name was Kevin in the first episode in which he appeared).

Johnny Fever, Monday, 2 November 2009 01:42 (sixteen years ago)

In the workplace-sitcom category, Newsradio was similarly static. No changes til Catherine left halfway through the 4th season. Even at the time, it felt like the writers were kinda steadfastly holding against the trends by avoiding any major story arcs/changes.

Ari (whenuweremine), Monday, 2 November 2009 02:39 (sixteen years ago)

naw, lisa took dave's job for a while, dave and lisa's relationship was off and on, matthew was fired for a few episodes, etc

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 2 November 2009 02:50 (sixteen years ago)

i dunno, the matthew fired, lisa the boss storylines were pretty clearly just temporary changes, like jack leaving GE to work in the bush administration. Also both of those didn't come til the fourth season.

Ari (whenuweremine), Monday, 2 November 2009 04:01 (sixteen years ago)

This has definitely improved overall sitcom quality of writing, character depth, and general enjoyment for me personally - but I do think this is also why sitcoms in general have declined hugely in ratings and audience size - it's quite telling the #1 sitcom has been Two and a Half Men for many years now.

Nhex, Monday, 2 November 2009 04:18 (sixteen years ago)

even 2 And A Half Men has a good amount of continuity! lot of changing relationships, recurring characters, season-long arcs, etc.

BIG HOOT aka the smalleydriver (some dude), Monday, 2 November 2009 04:23 (sixteen years ago)

Really? I'll cop to being ignorant about it, but I'll catch a random glimpse of an ep, even recent ones, it still seems to be the same basic setup of those three characters being the same role they've always been in - wisecracking kid, milque toast, and Charlie Sheen as himself, with the mother popping in randomly.

Nhex, Monday, 2 November 2009 04:27 (sixteen years ago)

i remember dunham from so long ago, like the mtv half hour comedy hour era.

Think I posted this on another thread, but I remember Dunham from Comic Strip Live in like 1991, which is why it's weird to me that he's only now blowing up.

speculation: if their relationship is arranged by their agents, then it's probably because Franco is gay and needs a beard, so, duh, of ~course~ it's Jenna

jack/agents bring him on as new castmember solely to arrange the otherwise unlikely circumstances that could see a plausible franco/jenna hook-up

how rad bandit (gbx), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 16:27 (sixteen years ago)

oooooh normally i hate all the guest start stuff but franco!!!!!

ms. thighs (tehresa), Wednesday, 4 November 2009 17:19 (sixteen years ago)

Franco was at NYU the other day. He walked by me in the hall (or so I was told by the person sitting next to me -- I was reading and didn't look up until it was too late).

Mordy, Wednesday, 4 November 2009 18:38 (sixteen years ago)

I know a guy whose ex-roommate was a student at NYU, and apparently one day Franco (who I guess he must have been in a class with) came over to their place and just hung out and had a couple of beers.
