maybe they are too dark
use brighter laces?
― StanM, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 19:41 (sixteen years ago) link
Totally. Throw some laces that match the light gray and not the dark gray, and you've got a much brighter pair of shoes.
― B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 26 March 2008 19:51 (sixteen years ago) link
haha i was thinking more like 'they aren't fuschia' but point taken
― rrrobyn, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 19:53 (sixteen years ago) link
Rrrobs I was thinking the same: kelly green laces on those brown(?) sneaks.
― Laurel, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 19:54 (sixteen years ago) link
yeah i just don't know if i'm that kinda girl tho, with the bright laces - i'd rather have the whole shoe be bright or not be bright anyway, the big thing is that i need a comfortable pair of shoes for walking around in early spring b/c all my shoes of that kind are old/broken
― rrrobyn, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 19:57 (sixteen years ago) link
and that aren't runners or hiking boots (though i do kinda need hiking boots/shoes too)
so unmotivated at work today! sunshine is leeeching motivation! if i were a cat i wld be doing that crazy thing cats do where they run from one end of the apartment to the other and then jump in the bathtub and meow really loudly

just purchased:

lace-up cap-toe stacy adams ankle boot + leather soles. classy.
― elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 20:48 (sixteen years ago) link
i'd actually like a pair like that! was for the first time regretting trashing my doc marten boots 6 yrs ago but then they just aren't my style anymore anyway. but maybe something like this wld suit better. hm.
― rrrobyn, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 20:59 (sixteen years ago) link
robyn are you lumidee?
― J0rdan S., Wednesday, 26 March 2008 21:00 (sixteen years ago) link
i think docs are okay for a look, especially once they get nice & weathered & worn, but I don't really need the chunky rubber sole myself, i'm already a tall dude and don't need boots that add another full inch to my height
― elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 21:04 (sixteen years ago) link
yeah i want a cleaner look, i guess e.g., i have white-soled sneakers but wld like darker soled sneakers for work purposes, uh, more 'sophisticated'? look i am probably not lumidee
― rrrobyn, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 21:10 (sixteen years ago) link
those are beautiful boots, elmo.

I can totally see you in them.
(I went into Schuh tonight and the only pair that appealed were a navy blue and red pair of Adidas Superstars. I've got two pairs of Superstars already)

Sales! I bought new shoes. But the price was very "unsalesy"

Also boughht a pair of grey shoes. Less expensive: about 80 euros.

(I bought the ones for women, cldn't find it on the Church's site.)
Those are quality Northampton shoes and worth every penny. While my Dad was working, he used to get a pair a year.

Got a pair of b/w plaid Chucks this week I'm really liking. They match my scarf, which makes me feel like kind of a tool but I think it looks ok and so do not care. Too much, anyway.

Want Jack Purcells for summer, but apparently they're not made in a size 14. Bastards.

Oh yeah, I was eyeing similar tretorns when I bought the Generic Surpluses. Tretorn seems like kind of a great shoe company.

I got some dsquared sneakers. Hurt like fuck but they are super great to look at. lol

I was always hesitant to do a dressier Camper, but these have a more proper-looking sole on them. I may still remove the little camper tag though - kind of corny.

Also caved and bought a pair of toms, which are absurdly comfy.

i bought a pair of toms classics last spring & they wore out so damn fast. not impressed

― whiney trollins vs. hipsters (dayo), Sunday, 7 November 2010 02:48 (thirteen years ago) link
i like how toms look/fit but theyre kinda just [....] verz of vans
― Lamp, Sunday, 7 November 2010 03:11 (thirteen years ago) link
Mine were like $75 I think? Definitely not cheap for that kind of casual shoe but they feel much better than typical converse/vans type shoes - they're lightweight, insulated, have some arch support, are very soft, and apparently are also water-resistant.
― Kinect: The Body Is Good Business™ (Hurting 2), Sunday, 7 November 2010 14:16 (thirteen years ago) link
Plus I mean they supposedly bought a pair for a kid in Africa with some of that money.

I still can't buy Nikes somehow -- I think the whole sweatshop thing in my college days just stuck with me, even if other brands I buy are using sweatshop labor too (not Toms, I don't think, but probably others). For that matter Nike may have improved its labor conditions -- don't know. But the association doesn't wear off. Also they don't tend to run as wide as I need.
Nonetheless, those are nice and I like them better than the Stussies.

the soles are leather too - i took them to a cobbler and he fixed a thin protective rubber sole on them. he said it would last two years.
