the explanation the give for RD getting canned is that they wanted someone with higher-caliber acting chops, which I will buy, along with the Krakowski's legs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dratch's anything explanation

re: the rule of 3 bit, the most hilarious part was how obscure the first two celebrities were, which put tracy jordan's star into context a little

k3vin k., Saturday, 31 October 2009 20:08 (sixteen years ago)

That guy didn't get to count as a celebrity because of his chatshow and instead because he was once in a queen latifah movie? And the puppet was the third.

haha "jenna attracts gay guys"...just got this

???

Leee, Saturday, 31 October 2009 21:03 (sixteen years ago)

the context was frank explaining to lutz & twofer why they should try to go to jenna's halloween party: "Jenna attracts gay guys. Gay guys throw awesome Halloween parties. Hot girls go to awesome Halloween parties"

it's just another riff on the now long-running gag where in the show, jenna is found to be really unattractive by guys

k3vin k., Saturday, 31 October 2009 21:33 (sixteen years ago)

"gay" is the key word there, cf "straight"

k3vin k., Saturday, 31 October 2009 21:34 (sixteen years ago)

hasn't there been a joke about jenna maybe being a guy when she was born or something?

caek, Saturday, 31 October 2009 21:35 (sixteen years ago)

Jenna as the show's Ms. Piggy is startling accurate, but I don't know if Jenna's ever been able to do the bit where Ms Piggy would drop in her "streetwise business-only" voice: "yeah, Morty, whaddaya got?"

i'm never sure about his star quality since his movies are said to have made like $5 billion

sonderangerbot, Sunday, 1 November 2009 02:42 (sixteen years ago)

hahaha yeah that's right

k3vin k., Sunday, 1 November 2009 02:44 (sixteen years ago)

nah, his movies had been flopping for a while before 30 Rock started, it's why he had to take the job on TGS

his vast wealth comes from Dongslayer: The Legend Of Goregasm

and remember, no one on the street seemed to know who he was when he went out to try to talk to 'normal' people.

Tracy lost the money he made from his films thanks to Grizz's bad investments. That's why he invents the Meat Machine.

i love the weird running "real-life pac-man" joke they have going.. like when jenna was cast as ms. pac-man in the "real-life atari movie"

you shouldn't be amazed, then.

Something I've realized from rewatching from the beginning (and something that might contribute heavily to the show's high quality): four seasons in, and the status quo has not changed from the first episode. Sure, there have been short-term shake-ups, but everything always returns to normal within a couple of episodes at most. Acquiring a new TGS cast member would actually be the first big change to the show's dynamic. So I kinda wonder whether it's actually going to happen. And I kinda wonder if that lack of change isn't super intentional.

Anyway. I'm hard-pressed to think of another show that hasn't had any significant changes made to its formula by the fourth season.
